Starting with the goblin extermination
Chapter 1 A Glimmer of Hope
Logan stumbled along the mountain path through the forest, glancing to the side to see the small town nestled beside the lake.
The temple's spires stand above the town's rows of houses and walkways, while the castle-like building next to the spires is even more magnificent.
He should have been able to descend the mountain and reach Riverwood, ending his arduous journey, but unfortunately, goblins were everywhere. He could see some figures on the distant field ridges, but near Logan, he could already see definite green figures moving through the woods, their scent filling his nostrils.
Logan continued running swiftly through the woods, a longsword in his hand.
A sharp "crack" came from his side; a branch snapped cleanly, and a dagger emerged from the bushes, lunging at him. A short stature, green skin, and cloudy yellow eyes—it was a goblin.
But Logan was prepared. He paused, shifted his body to the side, and his face was reflected in the gleaming blade, severing the first goblin's head.
But the speed also slowed down, and the goblins behind caught up.
The spear tip flashed, and a long spear flew out from behind him. Logan quickly dodged, stumbling and sliding around to the back of the tree trunk.
The spear was firmly embedded in the wood, its shaft still trembling.
He poked his head out, and the goblin roared and stabbed again. He immediately slid to the other side of the tree trunk and thrust forward with all his might.
With a "splat" sound of flesh tearing apart, the sword tip plunged deep into the goblin's eye socket. Blood dripped from the hole down his cheek, and the goblin eventually hung on the sword like a tattered sack, twitching incessantly.
This is the second one.
An arrow whistled and embedded itself in a tree trunk beside Logan's cheek, reminding him to keep running upwards. The dense forest covered almost every inch of land, and stiff branches lashed against him constantly. All around him was a dimness completely out of place with the bright summer day.
They followed closely behind, one carrying a short bow, one wielding a hand axe, and another clutching a short sword, its left hand holding an incongruous wooden round shield.
Logan finally emerged from the woods, frowning as he looked at the end of the road.
A dead end.
With a precipice looming before him, he had no choice but to wait as the goblin wielding a hand axe closed in.
A hand axe came at him.
The longsword and axe blade stuck together, making a dull thud.
His hand was numb from the shock, and his mind went blank, but muscle memory always works faster than the brain.
The blade followed the curved arc of the axe, sliding down towards the beast's wrist, followed by a simple horizontal slash.
Half of the goblin's neck was cut open.
It hadn't realized it was dead yet; it staggered a couple of steps, splattering blood all over Logan.
This is the third one.
Before Logan could recover, his right shoulder was suddenly slammed, and pain surged from the point to the surface like a tidal wave.
The arrow was still trembling, its tip already embedded in the bone. The longsword nearly slipped from Logan's hand, and his knuckles instinctively gripped the grooves of the hilt.
The sword tip dipped to the ground, leaving trembling marks.
"Damn it." Logan squeezed out the word through gritted teeth. The excruciating pain made it difficult for him to grip his sword, but the battle was not over yet.
His trembling left hand reached into his pocket and pulled out a small glass bottle covered in dirt.
The remaining two beasts did not charge blindly like the previous ones.
The one holding the shield lowered his center of gravity, hiding his body behind the round shield, his small yellow eyes cautiously watching the murderer who had killed several of his own kind through the edge of the shield.
They are different from other goblins; they are completely different.
They are smarter, more cautious, more afraid of death, and worried about the prey's final counterattack.
But this gave Logan an opportunity.
Logan bit open the cork with his teeth and tilted his head back to gulp it down. The red liquid, tinged with strawberry flavor, flowed down his esophagus and violently surged into his veins.
The pain from the wound disappeared, replaced by a numb, swollen sensation, as the arrow was forcibly squeezed out.
Logan felt a piece of raw meat fill the void left by his wound.
that's enough.
The shield-wielding goblin seemed to sense the change in its prey. It raised its rough wooden shield and charged forward. Logan could even see the patterns on the shield.
The sound of the wind rushing past his ears; Logan patiently guided his body, this being the last combat technique he could unleash.
In an instant, a trajectory appeared in his eyes.
"Bang!"
His forefoot sank heavily into the soft mud, and a powerful force flowed through his body, converging in his sword-wielding hand.
Then the tip of the sword flashed.
[Thrust]
puff-
The sound of metal piercing through shields and tearing through flesh was so pleasant.
Like lightning in a rainy night, the sword's edge flashed past my eyes and then embraced the green.
The strange power called combat skills, and the sharp blade given to them by their father, made the goblins' shields and flesh as soft as a thin membrane.
[Proficiency +1]
Semi-transparent text flashed before my eyes.
This is the fourth one.
Logan drew his sword sharply, sending up a cloud of wood chips and fragments of internal organs. Before the shield on the corpse could fall, Logan grabbed it.
Only the archer is left.
It was frantically nocking an arrow, its fingers moving the bowstring uncoordinatedly, as if to say that its previous shots were all lucky.
Logan charged across the several dozen meters, shield in hand, roaring as the arrow struck the center of the shield, failing to stop his advance.
The round shield slammed the goblin to the ground, and then Logan swung his sword down. With a cracking sound of bones breaking, its right arm, which was holding the bow, was severed at the shoulder.
This is the last one.
But he made a mistake—
Never underestimate the number of goblins in the wild.
Suddenly, the bushes to the side burst open, and a green, foul-smelling lump of flesh slammed into Logan's side like a cannonball.
The sixth goblin.
They fell to the ground, rolling and thrashing among the mud, broken branches, and thorns. Logan's head slammed against the wooden shield, his skull ringing. He pounded on the ground with the hilt of his sword, but the goblin's claws dug even deeper into his flesh.
They tumbled and rolled like that, the world spinning around them.
Until it disappeared at the edge of the cliff.
Logan waved his hands wildly in the air, but couldn't get a grip on anything, and started cursing.
The feeling of weightlessness lasted only a few seconds.
Their hands finally grasped something. It was an old tree root protruding from a crack.
His body suddenly slumped, and his arm nearly dislocated.
crunch--
The tree roots groaned under the strain; the weight was wrong, and their feet were too heavy.
He looked down.
Trees sprouted from the steep cliffs on both sides, spreading out and reaching into the air. The stream rushed below, and the longsword fell into it, carried away by the white foam, colliding violently with the black rocky bank.
These are dangerous enough, but the crisis is right at your feet.
The goblin didn't fall with him; it was hanging on Logan's right leg, its claws digging deep into his flesh, its body swaying slightly in the air.
"Damn it!" Logan cursed, scratching his fingers until they bled from the tree bark.
The most thrilling thing that happened to him in his past life was an abnormal premature ventricular contraction when he was working overtime to finish a project; that was the closest he ever came to death.
He knew he was about to die, but there was no revolving lantern; he only felt bored and restless.
Now, he felt both angry and excited.
That beast just wants him dead.
That's perfect, Logan is the same.
The goblin opened its mouth and bit down hard on Logan's calf.
"Get out!"
Logan snorted angrily and kicked the goblin hard in the face with his left foot.
a bit.
The sound of the nasal bone cracking.
Two times.
The eyeballs burst open.
The goblin's claws finally loosened, and it was kicked against the rock wall like a stone, bounced off, and rolled down, certain to die.
Logan won.
But soon a cracking sound came from above.
The old tree roots had had enough of all this.
It broke.
Logan watched as the broken log fell with him, the sky rapidly receding, the rock walls on both sides of the valley whizzing past, the wind in his ears turning into a shriek, and then it was all over.
The cold stream water, like a giant black hand, instantly constricted him, squeezing the air from his lungs, swallowing his consciousness, and dragging him into endless darkness...
