Chapter 15 Giant Frog
"Ugh...this is ten times more disgusting than a slime from the sewers!"
Papah pinched her nose, utterly dejected, and smeared the dark brown "stinky mud paste" onto her firm calves and leather armor.
She had just been staring with shining eyes at the yellow crystal-like "Sunset Rose" in the distance. She loved beautiful things, but now she could only hide herself in the foul-smelling mud.
Logan applied the last bit of mud to the leather armor with a blank expression.
It did smell terrible, and the stench made Logan's eyes sting, but he didn't stop moving at all.
On the carriage, the old dwarf Thorin had already explained the tactics very thoroughly.
Giant frogs are enormous, but not very bright, relying entirely on instinct to hunt. To deal with them, avoid a chaotic melee; it's best to take them out one by one.
Then lure out one, focus fire on it, and then lure out the next one.
Logan's gaze passed over the gray-green reeds and landed on the shore of Mirror Lake.
The vast Mirror Lake stretched as far as the eye could see to the opposite shore. Along the edge of the azure water, seven or eight enormous silhouettes could be seen scattered about.
Each giant frog, perched there, resembled a small, bluish-green mountain of flesh. And among them, a few sunset roses, emitting a dim, yellowish glow, dotted the landscape.
The most beautiful and largest flower happened to grow on the left side of the largest giant frog.
Logan narrowed his eyes slightly.
Compared to the giant frog, these flowers were far too fragile. Not to mention being crushed by the frog's massive body, even the mud and gravel splashed up when it leaped would be enough to tear those translucent petals to shreds.
But Logan didn't say anything.
He certainly didn't tell Thorin and the others that he had accepted Adele's personal commission. After all, in the perilous forest, it would be selfish to ask your teammates to change tactics and increase the risks for your own personal mission.
"It would be best if I could get it, but if not, so be it," Logan thought to himself, temporarily erasing the basic healing potion from his mind.
Fortunately, these giant frogs are extremely lazy. If they aren't hungry, they can stay motionless in the mud for an entire day. After all, their long, whip-like tongues allow them to hunt simply by opening their mouths.
"Alright, everyone, don't be nervous."
Thorin lowered his voice, giving his final pre-battle pep talk.
"If you're unlucky enough to end up in the stomachs of those beasts, don't panic, and don't scream like a woman."
Thorin ignored Papa's feigned fierce gaze and continued speaking.
"The stinky mud on you will upset their stomachs. Before long, they will vomit you up in disgust. If you are brave enough, you can even cut them right in the stomach."
"Papa, you stand outside and watch the moment it opens its mouth, then plunge the arrow deep into its throat!"
The young dwarf, Baron, swallowed hard, gripping his newly forged round shield with a nervous intensity. It was slippery, and his palms were sweaty.
Thorin's eyes swept across the lake shore, finally pointing the axe handle to the far right edge.
"Let's go with that one. It's the furthest from the main group and the thinnest. Let's warm it up first."
Logan looked in the direction of the axe handle and secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
The giant frog in that location was some distance from the nearest Sunset Rose, and he naturally hoped that after the battle, a few intact Sunset Roses would be left for him to pick.
"Papa, shoot it."
At Thorin's command, Papa's bowstring was instantly drawn taut.
collapse!
The longbow emitted a low, muffled thud.
The arrow transformed into lightning, striking the eye socket of the giant frog on the far right.
With a soft "poof".
The arrow did not penetrate the giant frog's eyeball as expected. Instead, it was slid away by the thick layer of mucus around the eye socket and only pierced the frog's skin shallowly.
But this is enough.
"Gugua—!!!"
The giant frog, in pain, suddenly opened its huge eyeballs and let out an angry roar.
Fortunately, the other giant frogs dozens of meters away merely lazily raised their eyelids, glanced at their companions, and then closed their eyes again to continue dozing off.
It seems that with their intelligence, as long as the prey doesn't step on their faces, the life or death of their companions is none of their concern.
"It's coming! Scatter!"
That little mountain of flesh started moving.
Its powerful hind legs pushed off the muddy ground, and its massive body leaped several meters into the air, crashing down on the crowd like a meteorite.
In mid-air, its shadow even blocked out the sunlight.
boom--!!!
The giant frog crashed heavily onto the open ground a dozen meters in front of everyone, causing a great tremor and sending mud and water flying in all directions like an explosion.
Logan felt the vibrations coming from the soles of his feet, and cold sweat broke out on his back.
You absolutely cannot let this thing press down on you; you can't even touch it.
"Baron, go!" Thorin roared.
The young dwarf gritted his teeth, raised his heavy steel shield, and strode forward, exposing himself directly in the giant frog's field of vision.
A perfect lure.
The giant frog instantly locked onto the foul-smelling snack and opened its mouth, which was covered in mucus.
Whoosh—snap!
The scarlet tongue lashed out at Baron like a cannonball!
With a loud thud, the tongue, carrying terrifying kinetic energy, slammed solidly into the shield. The immense impact left two deep imprints on the muddy ground with Baron's feet, and he slid back two meters.
Under normal circumstances, the inverted fleshy spines on the giant frog's tongue will hook tightly onto the edge of the shield, instantly pulling the prey into its mouth.
But today's situation is a bit special.
The moment it touched the shield, the sludge on its tongue came into contact with the [stinky mud paste] smeared on the shield. The nauseating sliminess and stench caused the barbs on its tongue to lose their grip.
With a whoosh, the thick, long tongue slipped off the shield and flew to the open space beside it.
Right now.
"Take this arrow!"
Papa, behind the tree, did not miss this opening. Her hands moved like afterimages, and the bowstring vibrated repeatedly.
Whoosh!Whoosh!
Two arrows pierced the giant frog's large, unclosed mouth, entering its soft oral cavity and reaching its throat.
The sudden, excruciating pain caused the giant frog to let out a scream, and its once powerful tongue instantly went limp and drooped to the ground.
Its massive body began to writhe, trying to expel the foreign object from its throat.
Logan.
Without Thorin's prompting, Logan had already closed in the moment the giant frog was struck.
A foul stench filled the air.
Logan stared intently at the soft flesh where the giant frog's jaw met its abdomen.
[Thrust]
His thigh muscles exploded instantly, and the longsword, propelled by the immense momentum of his charge, transformed into a streak of white light.
*Pfft!*
The thick mucus and skin were easily torn apart by the combat technique, and most of the sword blade was deeply embedded in the giant frog's body.
[Proficiency +1]
Logan jerked the sword hilt and then used the giant frog's struggle to leap backward, avoiding the spurting blood.
The giant frog's massive body convulsed violently a few times before collapsing with a crash and remaining motionless.
Successfully defeated the first giant frog.
