Everyone has awakened, but I am the only mortal!

Chapter 11 You're a smart kid

Old Zhou looked up at him, momentarily forgetting to speak.

Why does he feel like this guy is implying that he's short?

Su Bai put the syringe in his pocket: "Look around."

Old Zhou immediately pressed close to him: "Are you sure... we're not delivering food to monsters?"

There was no wind, the weeds were motionless, and the silence was eerily still.

Su Bai replied confidently, "No."

Why?

Su Bai glanced at him sideways and said calmly, "You said you're ugly and monsters wouldn't be interested in you."

Old Zhou: "..." I really thank you.

This commotion eased Old Zhou's tense nerves a bit, and he was no longer as stiff as before.

He released Su Bai, pointed to the impenetrable darkness in the distance, and tentatively asked, "What do you think is in there?"

Su Bai strode forward: "We'll find out when we get there."

As soon as he finished speaking, he stepped through the grass and walked into the darkness.

Old Zhou didn't dare to stay behind alone, so he gritted his teeth and hurried to catch up, cursing himself a thousand times for his meddlesome thoughts.

He was clearly very close, but in the blink of an eye, Su Bai's figure was swallowed up by the darkness.

Old Zhou's Adam's apple bobbed, and just as he was about to speak, he saw a face emerge from the darkness.

The body was hidden in the darkness, only the face was eerily clear.

Old Zhou's heart skipped a beat, but after recognizing Su Bai, the heartbeat that was about to leap out of his body returned to normal.

"Old Zhou, hurry up," Su Bai urged him.

Old Zhou let out a breath and was about to follow when he caught a glimpse of his side out of the corner of his eye.

In an instant, the hairs on his body stood on end.

Su Bai was standing two steps away from me, and there was another Su Bai in the darkness in front of me.

"Old Zhou, hurry up!" The urging voice came from ahead once again.

Old Zhou cursed "Damn it!" countless times in his mind, his hands trembling as he patted himself down.

Just then, he heard Su Bai beside him ask, "What are you looking for?"

Old Zhou didn't dare to look up. He said, "I'm looking for my backpack."

Su Bai's cool voice asked again, "Why are you looking for your backpack?"

Old Zhou quickly looked up at Su Bai beside him, noticing his slowly turning white hair and pale face. Su Bai's teeth were chattering as he replied, "I...I'll find a pair of pants to change into."

Su Bai, standing beside him, remained silent, his gaze following the man's trembling legs until it finally settled on his crotch.

It was so quiet all around, except for Old Zhou's own heartbeat and Su Bai's urging voice from ahead: "Old Zhou, hurry up! Hurry up!"

Impatience was slowly creeping into his voice.

Even the previously still weeds suddenly began to move.

It wasn't blown by the wind; it started from the roots, rising little by little, like countless hands slowly reaching out towards him.

Old Zhou instantly exploded: "Holy crap! It moved! It moved! It moved—!!"

Just then, someone suddenly slapped me hard on the back.

Old Zhou shuddered, the deathly silence around him shattered, and the urging voice in his ears disappeared.

He turned around abruptly and met a face that was close by. He was so startled that he yelled "Holy crap!" again and backed away.

Su Bai frowned at him: "What's wrong?"

Old Zhou, still shaken, stared at him for a long while, his voice trembling, "You... why is your hair white?"

Su Bai raised his hand and wiped it, saying calmly, "It's frost."

Fearing he wouldn't believe her, she added, "You have it on your head too."

Old Zhou hesitated and touched his hair; his fingertips were cold and damp.

He looked back into the darkness, but the eerie face was gone.

He let out a long breath and said with lingering fear, "I almost fucking died here just now."

Su Bai looked at him and said seriously, "You've been standing there in a daze the whole time."

Old Zhou wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and briefly recounted the two hallucinations of "Su Bai," saying with lingering fear, "Luckily you patted me."

Su Bai raised an eyebrow slightly: "I've encountered this before. You asked me to get that bundle of hair, saying there were cookies hidden underneath."

Old Zhou was taken aback: "Then how did you figure it out?"

Su Bai's lips curved slightly: "I replied, 'You said cookies are choking.'"

Old Zhou chuckled dryly twice, then asked curiously, "Then why didn't I hear you go over there just now?"

Su Bai said calmly, "I never call you by your name."

Old Zhou's eyes lit up instantly: "You're pretty smart, kid."

"I'm leaving." Su Bai turned around.

Old Zhou immediately followed without asking where they were going.

After walking a few steps, he found himself back in that pitch-black area, and the hairs on his body stood on end again: "They...they're really going?"

Su Bai didn't even turn his head: "You'll see when you get there."

Old Zhou gritted his teeth: "Fine! I'll die if I have to!"

As they stepped into the darkness where the moonlight couldn't reach, the two had imagined countless possibilities, but the moment they saw what was before them, they were both stunned.

The first thing that catches the eye is the figure in the window in the distance.

Even from a distance, they recognized Luo Zheng and his group immediately; they were standing by the window looking out.

What are you waiting for?

They both understood that they were being waited for to return.

Only then will people notice the house.

It was a European-style house, mostly hidden in thick black fog, with only the lit windows clearly visible, the rest of the house blurred in the darkness.

Old Zhou muttered under his breath, "So the house is this big."

According to Luo and Zheng, there was only one room when they walked around from the front of the house to the back window; they never mentioned the entire building.

Su Bai didn't say anything and walked straight towards the house, with Lao Zhou quickly following.

But after walking for a long time, the two found that no matter how many steps they took, the distance between them and the house remained unchanged, as if they were standing still.

Su Bai stopped: "Go back the way we came."

Old Zhou said, "Something's not right here. My brain can't keep up."

The temperature dropped lower and lower, and the breath we exhaled condensed into white mist.

A thin layer of white frost had formed on both of their hair and eyebrows.

The door they had come out of earlier had disappeared. Su Bai led Lao Zhou along the edge of the building toward the window.

Old Zhou, shivering, huddled up and said, "What kind of weather is this? Why is it getting colder and colder?"

Su Bai said calmly, "You're forcing us to stay inside."

Old Zhou choked, "That house...it won't eat people, will it?"

Su Bai said, "Be careful when you get back."

Old Zhou opened his mouth, but in the end, it only turned into a resigned sigh.

Having witnessed so many bizarre things, even the most outrageous events no longer cause much of a stir.

Soon, the two returned to the window.

The light shining from inside the room slightly dispelled some of the fear.

Seeing Su Bai standing still, Old Zhou stopped and asked, "What's wrong?"

Su Bai asked softly, "Do you think we're outside the house now, or in a corridor?"

Old Zhou looked bewildered: "What do you mean?"

Su Bai didn't explain, but suddenly laughed and turned to walk into the darkness opposite the window.

He didn't step into the darkness. After a few steps, he seemed to be blocked by something. He stopped and reached out.

Old Zhou was behind him and could only see Su Bai's hand hovering in the darkness, groping for something.
