Full-Time Magister: Rebirth of Mo Fan as the Primordial Evil Phoenix
Chapter 42 Azure Sky Hunting Grounds
Chapter 42 Azure Sky Hunting Grounds
The taxi stopped at the intersection. Mo Fan paid the fare, got out of the car, and looked up at the old sign on the side of the street.
Qingtian Hunting Grounds.
The signboard was still half-dead, hanging there swaying back and forth. It didn't look like a proper place at all; it looked more like a shady little shop ready to pack up and run away at any moment.
Mo Fan stood at the door for two seconds, then couldn't help but twitch the corner of his mouth.
"Still so shabby."
I don't know where Old Man Bao has spent all his money over the years; he can't even bear to change a signboard.
He pushed open the door and went inside. The room was still the same as before. It wasn't a big place, but it was quite clean. It was half teahouse and half office, and the air still carried the smell of tea leaves and old wood mixed together.
By the window, a little girl with pigtails sat on a high stool, holding a laptop, her legs dangling in mid-air. Her face was fair and delicate, her eyes large and bright; at first glance, she looked like a little princess who had run away from home.
Lingling raised her head and glanced at Mo Fan first.
She tapped her fingers on the keyboard, the sound crisp yet cold.
"Please register your commission on the left. The starting price is 300,000. We don't accept commissions below that price."
"Wow, this is a rip-off!" Mo Fan joked.
Lingling frowned slightly.
Why is this guy talking nonsense?
Behind the counter, Old Man Bao was leisurely brewing tea. Hearing this, he raised his eyelids slightly.
Mo Fan walked to the counter and tapped on the table.
"Um... I'm not here to make a request," he said. "I want to join the Azure Sky Hunting Grounds."
Upon hearing this, Lingling immediately turned her chair around.
"Join?" She looked Mo Fan up and down, her tone flat. "What do you take this place for, a school club?"
"The Azure Sky Hunters take on commissions from demons, not children's games." Lingling looked at him. "Are you really capable of handling this at such a young age?"
Mo Fan's lips twitched after hearing this.
This little girl is still as sharp-tongued as ever.
He had originally intended to retort, but then he thought better of it and held back, lest he really upset the girl and then have to coax her later, which would be too much trouble.
Old Bao stared at the counter for a long time, and he could no longer suppress the smirk on his face.
This kid is interesting.
"Why did you join the Azure Sky Hunting Grounds?" Old Bao finally asked.
Mo Fan turned and glanced at him. "I'm short on money, and I'll practice my skills while I'm at it."
"Cultivation level," Lingling suddenly asked.
Mo Fan glanced at her: "Asking such detailed questions, are you checking my household registration?"
"You don't have to answer," Lingling said calmly. "The door is in the back; go out yourself."
Mo Fan clicked his tongue.
Why was this little girl so unlovable when she was little?
"Intermediate level," Mo Fan said.
At that moment, her bright, sparkling eyes seemed to flash, scrutinizing Mo Fan from head to toe once again.
At this age, intermediate level!?
Are you kidding me!
Lingling regained her composure and continued, "Is there a formal record of the commission?"
"no."
"Regular teammates?"
"no."
"Experience in hunting monsters?"
"About a billion."
Lingling looked puzzled after hearing this and said, "Your cultivation level wasn't built up by piling up gold, was it? We don't need a young master like you."
"Have you ever seen any young master who's as handsome as me?"
Lingling: "————"
Old Bao couldn't help but almost spit out his tea.
This kid has a really thick skin.
Lingling was taken aback by his shameless response, then turned her head and snorted, "So shameless."
"I'll take that as a compliment," Mo Fan said lazily, leaning against the counter. "While I may not be good at much else, my cultivation level is something I've genuinely improved."
"Many people have said that," Lingling said.
"and then?"
"Then the grass on the grave has been replaced several times."
Mo Fan was silent for two seconds, then smacked his lips.
"Forget it, I won't stoop to the level of a child."
Watching this back and forth, Old Man Bao got a sense of what was going on.
"Lingling, this young man seems like a good partner," said Old Man Bao.
Lingling turned to look at him: "Grandpa, I don't want to be with him! I think this guy is unreliable!"
Mo Fan stroked his chin and said seriously, "According to you, then there's nothing reliable in the entire magical world."
""
Lingling gave Mo Fan a disdainful look: "Is it possible that I mean you're unreliable?"
Mo Fan immediately chimed in, "That's still better than being born with a sharp tongue, right?"
"At least being verbally abusive won't kill your teammates."
"That's not necessarily true. What if your teammate gets so angry they die?"
"I'm not kidding you," Lingling said.
"I know." Mo Fan looked at her, his tone suddenly softening a little. "That's why I came here."
Lingling was slightly taken aback.
His tone was quite different from his previous nonchalant manner.
Old Bao picked up his teacup and slowly blew on it.
This kid isn't as unreliable as he seems on the surface.
There was a two-second silence in front of the counter, broken only by the soft gurgling sound of the kettle.
"Alright," Old Man Bao put down his teacup and finally spoke, "You try it first."
"Don't get too excited yet." Lingling coldly poured a bucket of water on him. "Grandpa is just on trial; it doesn't mean you've already joined."
As she spoke, she snapped the laptop shut, jumped off the high chair, and moved with a swiftness that belied her young age.
"I happen to have a commission on hand." Old Bao glanced at Lingling. "I was originally planning to have someone else take it, but now it seems that you two can give it a try."
Lingling immediately frowned: "Grandpa, are you serious?"
"What, scared?" Mo Fan chuckled.
Lingling rolled her eyes at him, too lazy to respond to such a low-level provocation. She simply reached out and pulled a file from the table, spreading it out on the counter.
Mo Fan glanced down and realized it wasn't an escort mission or a raid order.
All that came into view were a few lines of records describing the unusual flames that had recently appeared at the abandoned ironworks in the south of the city.
Lingling took the documents and looked at them carefully for a while, her expression gradually becoming serious.
"Unusual firelight?"
"Who cares if he's popular or not, as long as he makes money."
Lingling snorted coldly: "You'd better have some real skills, or I don't want to be collecting your corpse in the factory."
Mo Fan folded the documents and stuffed them into his pocket.
"Don't worry." He glanced at Lingling and seriously calculated, "If it were really a matter of collecting corpses, it wouldn't be the turn of a little kid like you."
Lingling's temple throbbed with a vein.
凸 (皿#).
She was frantically slurping and chewing the bubble tea on the table, as if it were Mo Fan himself.
Old Bao acted as if he hadn't seen it, and simply added slowly, "You two can decide the time yourselves. I won't get involved."
Mo Fan waved his hand, indicating that he had heard.
Lingling coldly put the milk tea aside, tapped her phone screen twice to bring up her contact information, and handed it to him.
Scan me.
Mo Fan glanced down and chuckled.
"Are elementary school students this skilled now?"
Lingling raised an eyelid and snorted coldly, "If you say another word, I'll block you."
"Okay, okay, let's do business as usual." Mo Fan took out his phone, scanned the QR code, and sent a friend request.
Lingling looked down and almost deleted the person on the spot when she saw the nickname.
"The most handsome man in the universe".
Her lips twitched slightly, but she held back and still clicked "accept".
"Your skin is thicker than a city wall!"
Mo Fan lazily replied as he put away his phone, "This is a true description."
Lingling ignored him and sent him an electronic document instead.
Mo Fan's phone vibrated slightly. He glanced at it and saw it was a transcribed version of the commission from earlier, complete with photos of the scene and a timeline.
"I saw it clearly." Lingling crossed her arms, her tone returning to normal. "The unusual firelight usually appears after 9 p.m. If you go during the day, you'll only see nothing. If you really want to find something, you can only go at night."
Mo Fan raised an eyebrow: "So, we're setting off tonight?"
"Meet at the entrance at 8:30," Lingling said. "I won't wait for anyone who's late."
Mo Fan put his phone back in his pocket, smirked, and turned to walk out the door.
As he pushed open the door, he casually opened the file that Lingling had just sent him.
I glanced at the photos and then turned off the screen.
"Tonight—"
"Let's see what's causing this trouble."
