The terrifying heavens inside the box
Chapter 39 The Storm Is Brewing
At the hospital entrance, Nancy, who had just delivered breakfast to Maggie, bumped into the paramedic again.
"monster?"
When she learned from the other party that the person who was sent here had been injured by a "monster", her first thought was Freddy.
However, looking at the injured person on the ambulance, there were no familiar four claw marks. Instead, there was a large hole in the abdomen, which was quite horrifying.
When Nancy hitched another ride and arrived in the area surrounding Springwood, the farmers and ranchers were already waiting at the crossroads.
They looked impatient, and each of them was carrying a pitchfork and a hunting rifle.
Just then, the police vehicles arrived.
After Nancy got out of the car, she saw several figures lying on the ground covered with white sheets, but stained with blood.
Someone died!
Realizing the danger, Nancy gripped the mirror in her pocket again.
"Hey Nancy, what are you doing here?"
Among the arriving officers, one of them spotted Nancy, the sheriff's daughter, and immediately frowned.
"This is not a place for you. You should go back to the hospital; it's too dangerous here!"
As the other person spoke, they gestured for her to look at the corpse covered with a white sheet on the ground.
But Nancy had already had a similar experience. Although she was still afraid of death, she was not completely unable to cope with it.
"Don't worry, perhaps I can still help you."
Nancy's words, naturally, failed to move the other party.
But with so many people present, and the other party being the sheriff's daughter, she still insisted on staying.
In the end, the veteran police officer had no choice but to arrange for her to follow behind him.
The group went to the ranch first and saw several cow carcasses that had been dragged out outside the fence.
The four distinct claw marks on his abdomen—who else could it be but Freddy Krueger!
"It looks like he was attacked by some kind of wild animal," the veteran officer concluded after glancing at the wound.
"A wild animal?" The rancher shook his head immediately. "No, no, no! That's impossible! We saw it with our own eyes!"
"When we heard the cows moaning, we rushed over and found those wounds that had appeared out of nowhere on their bodies."
"It's like an unseen monster swinging its claws!"
"We fired around the cow, but it was no use! We hit nothing!"
Upon hearing the rancher's words, one of the police officers instinctively asked, "So you don't know whether that monster is still here or not?"
The atmosphere became tense after those words were spoken.
Several police officers instinctively reached for their guns, while the ranch staff looked around suspiciously.
Only Nancy took out a mirror and quietly looked around at herself.
Seeing that the mirror didn't react, she finally spoke:
"Don't worry, that monster is no longer here."
"How did you know? Who are you?" The rancher frowned.
The veteran officer thought for a moment, then holstered his gun: "Hey guys, be polite. This is Sheriff Thompson's daughter; she's an expert on this."
Nancy knew this was someone covering for her, and immediately gave the other person a grateful look.
Although the scene has been inspected, there's not much the police can do about it; they can only leave two people there to keep watch.
The rest of the people went to the farm.
Led by the farm workers, they arrived at the cornfield where they discovered the "monster".
"That's it!"
"scarecrow?"
A young police officer looked incredulously at the scarecrow fixed to the frame, then turned to look at the people on the farm.
But the people on the farm all looked tense, staring warily at the thing; they were clearly not joking.
"Be careful!"
Nancy suddenly yelled. The veteran officer, who was observing the scarecrow, immediately tackled the young officer pointing at the scarecrow to the ground upon hearing the noise.
The next moment, a dark shadow burst out of the scarecrow's body.
Only then did everyone realize what it was.
A worm-like monster with a mouth full of fangs.
Nancy finally understood how the injured person who had been sent to the hospital had gotten such terrible injuries.
Just as the worm monster was about to shrink back, she suddenly realized what was happening and picked up the mirror to look at herself.
The mirror trembled, and a beam of white light flew past.
The ugly monster was instantly frozen in place.
The veteran officer got up, half-squatted, drew his gun, and gave the order.
"Fire!"
A group of people immediately opened fire.
"Bang bang bang..."
Until the monster was defeated and turned into light and shadow, disappearing without a trace, it was as if nothing had ever happened.
"Is that all?"
The young police officer, who had just been rescued, was still holding his gun, clearly shaken.
Fearing he might accidentally discharge the gun, the veteran officer reached out and engaged the safety, then pulled the gun down.
"It's over! Put down your gun."
At this moment, everyone present looked at Nancy.
But she walked cautiously toward the scarecrow.
"Be careful! Don't come any closer!"
"I'm fine!"
Nancy walked up to the scarecrow and squatted down.
Seeing this, the others finally dared to approach, but when they got closer, they were also startled.
"What's going on?!"
The farmer was dumbfounded. All the crops near the scarecrow were rotting and withering, and even the soil had a pungent, rotten smell.
And judging from the signs, this situation is continuing to spread.
Some people suspected that the scarecrow was the problem and suggested burning it.
But after easily pulling out the scarecrow, they discovered that the land itself was also rotten beyond recognition.
Nancy didn't speak, but simply watched as the flames rose and engulfed the eerie scarecrow, burning fiercely. In the crackling firelight, she seemed to see Freddy's maniacal laughter.
She always felt that things weren't that simple.
The veteran officer drove Nancy home, and although he was curious, he didn't ask about what had just happened.
Quite a few people still know about Freddy's past.
But in the end, they didn't publicize it.
It's much better for one scumbag to die than for a bunch of children to die and for many families in Springwood to be devastated.
As soon as they arrived at Yushu Street, a sound came from the car radio.
"A murder has occurred on Elm Street..."
Upon hearing this, Nancy immediately had a bad feeling.
The veteran officer noticed her expression and couldn't help but step on the gas.
When the two arrived at the scene, they crossed the police cordon and entered the house, only to discover a bizarre scene.
In the living room, a figure in a nightgown knelt in front of the television, her head buried in the screen.
The scene was indescribably eerie.
Who would commit suicide by crashing into a television?
By this time, police officers had already completed the on-site sampling.
Who was the deceased?
The veteran officer had just asked about his colleague when he heard someone behind him say:
Jennifer is 12 years old.
He turned to look at the other person. "You know her?"
Nancy nodded, sighed, and then spoke:
"She wasn't the only one, there's also... the killer is Freddy!"
Upon hearing this, the veteran officer quickly pulled her aside and whispered, "Nancy! I know about what happened back then, but Freddy is dead. He couldn't possibly be out here committing crimes."
Seeing that the other party did not believe her, Nancy had already anticipated this, so she didn't say anything more, and she couldn't produce any decent evidence.
However, the situation only got worse as time went on.
Jennifer's death was just the beginning; other children also experienced frequent nightmares, reluctance to sleep, and even signs of self-harm.
If it hadn't been discovered in time, the consequences would have been unpredictable.
Parents, who had been severely impacted and unable to focus on work and life, finally couldn't take it anymore.
Their only option was to send these children to the newly built Westin Mountain Mental Hospital in Springwood for professional treatment.
In Springwood Town, the suffocating feeling of isolation from the world continues to spread.
Some people tried to escape, but the next day, the bodies would always be found around Springwood Town.
The death toll is still rising.
Even worse news is that some people have found that food stored in their refrigerators or warehouses is starting to rot and grow mold.
More and more cattle and sheep are dying on the ranch, and the area of rotten crops and decaying soil in the cornfields is spreading, forcing the farm to harvest the corn crops ahead of schedule.
The scarcity of supplies and the oppressive atmosphere finally triggered an unprecedented riot in Springwood Town...
