Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong
Chapter 187 Refusal
Wayne rejected Andrei's request outright.
"Mr. Andrei, I'm afraid what you're saying won't do. I have neither the authority nor the obligation to assist your church in capturing the witch."
Everyone at the church entrance heard Wayne's voice.
Greve peeked half his head out from behind Andrei.
"No obligation? You've been the bishop of Frosttown for months, and you didn't know there was a witch hiding here? Don't you know you're protecting heretics, you're blaspheming the goddess!"
Wayne's gaze fell on the clown jumping around.
"Mr. Greve, you just said that the Holy See of St. Hilde is the head of the seven major papal houses and the legitimate representative of the Goddess."
Gleeve's lips curled up.
"That's right."
"Then do you know whose territory the Wiggins Kingdom is?"
Gleeve's lips froze.
Wayne's tone was calm.
"The Kingdom of Wiggins is under the jurisdiction of the Church of Wiggins. No matter how large the Church of St. Hilde is, it cannot be larger than national borders. This is Wiggins, not St. Hilde. I will not stop you from preaching here. But if you want to capture Wiggins' citizens on Wiggins' land, even if they are witches, you must first ask the Church of Wiggins for its consent."
Gleeve's face turned bright red.
"You...you're just being unreasonable! Witches are the enemy of everyone, heretics who slaughtered most of the religious leaders five hundred years ago! Capturing witches is the duty of every clergyman, regardless of nationality! As a priest, how can you say such things? Do you deserve the holy emblem on your chest?"
Wayne glanced down at the holy emblem on his chest.
The emblem of the Wiggins Church is similar in style to that of St. Hilde, but with simpler patterns and an additional ring of thorns around the edge.
He raised his head.
"Mr. Gleevec."
"What's wrong?"
"The witch who slaughtered religious leaders five hundred years ago was from the past, not the present. The past and the present are two different things."
"What's the difference?"
"The past is the past, and the present is the present. Just as you are a missionary of St. Hilde, it doesn't mean that everyone who wears a white robe is a missionary of St. Hilde. You should understand this principle."
Gleevec remained arrogant.
"Stop your sophistry! I think you're deliberately protecting the witch. According to our intelligence, you have two little witches by your side. One has red hair, and the other has blue hair. They're always with you, in and out of the church, inseparable. Do you think everyone is blind?"
His voice grew louder and louder, and spittle flew from his mouth, glistening in the sunlight.
"I advise you to behave yourself. Hand over those two little devils, or else..."
Wayne's eyes changed.
It's not anger.
It is a very cold thing.
Gleeve's words stuck in his throat.
He saw those eyes.
My foot moved back half an inch uncontrollably.
He wanted to run away.
But it was too late.
The next second, Wayne moved.
In Greve's vision, Wayne's face went from five feet away to within one foot. He didn't even see how Wayne got there; he only felt a gust of wind, and then his face.
Snapped.
The sound of slaps erupted at the church entrance.
Greve's body flew off the steps.
His white robe unfurled in mid-air, like a white dove kicked away. He tumbled twice, crashed to the ground, rolled twice more, and finally lay motionless in the middle of the stone path.
The crowd retreated half a circle.
No one spoke.
Nobody moved.
Everyone looked at Grevey lying on the ground, and then at Wayne on the steps.
Wayne remained where he was.
He stood on the steps, looking at the white dot lying on the ground outside the crowd, his voice not loud.
"alright."
His gaze shifted from Greve to Andrei's face.
"You are not welcome in my church."
"You can get out now."
Andrei looked at Wayne.
The three combat priests behind him simultaneously took half a step forward.
His hand rested on the hilt of the sword.
Battle aura emanated from between his fingers.
Andrei raised his hand.
The three combat priests stopped.
Andrei looked at Wayne, a slight smile curving his lips. The smile was ambiguous, containing elements of mockery, interest, and something else entirely.
"Let's go," he said.
The voice wasn't loud, but the missionaries behind him heard it.
They looked at each other in bewilderment.
"grown ups……"
Andrei didn't look at them.
His gaze remained fixed on Wayne.
"Back to the hotel."
The three combat priests loosened their hands from the hilts of their swords, took a half-step back, and returned to their original positions.
Andrei descended the steps. The missionaries behind him followed, making way through the narrow path cleared by the crowd.
After walking a few steps, he stopped and turned his head to the side.
"Mr. Wayne."
Wayne looked at him.
Andrei's lips curved into a slight smile.
"You keep bringing us surprises one after another."
Wayne didn't respond.
"Then let's stay here for a few days and spread our teachings," Andrei said in a very light tone, as if he were talking about something insignificant. "As for how we capture the witch, that's not up to you."
Soon, the white-robed figure disappeared into the crowd around the street corner.
The crowd remained standing in place.
No one spoke.
After a long silence, the blacksmith was the first to speak.
"Lord Wayne, you were a bit too impulsive just now, weren't you?"
Wayne looked at him.
"Is there?"
The blacksmith swallowed hard.
"Those were people from St. Hilde. The heads of the seven major papal courts. You just drove them away like that?"
Wayne did not answer the question.
The crowd fell silent for a moment.
The hunter took a step forward and switched the bow he was carrying to his shoulder. His movement was small, but everyone could see it.
"Bishop Wayne."
"Um."
"That... the Thousand-Year Purple Sun, is it real?"
Wayne looked at the hunter's face.
His face was roughened by wind and sun.
"It's true."
The hunter gripped the bowstring tightly.
"Then... will Frosttown really become a dead zone?"
"When the Millennium Purple Sun arrives, Frost Town, located at the boundary between the abyss and its shallow layers, will become unstable. The abyssal energy from beneath the earth will surge up. Ordinary people cannot withstand it."
Someone in the crowd gasped.
The hunter's lips pressed into a thin line.
"Then...where can we go?"
"The kingdom and the church are already developing a relocation plan. We will inform everyone once the plan is finalized, so please rest assured."
Wilford pushed his way up from the back of the crowd.
He stood at the bottom of the steps, turned around, faced the crowd, and raised his hand to press down.
"Everyone, disperse, disperse! What are you still doing standing around?"
Nobody moved.
Wilford's voice rose half an octave.
"Go do what you're supposed to do! What kind of behavior is this, standing around in front of the church? The charlatan from St. Hilde's just left, and you're all crowding here? Do you want to make a fool of yourselves?"
The crowd shifted slightly, some taking a half-step back, but most remained standing, their gazes shifting between Wilford and Wayne. Finally, Wilford's voice softened slightly, his tone changing from command to suggestion.
"We'll let everyone know when we have news. I'll inform you first of any arrangements made by the Kingdom and the Church. Now go back to your businesses and focus on your business; don't neglect your important matters."
After this was said, the crowd dispersed.
