Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong

Chapter 229 Andrei's Release

Two days passed quickly.

Today is the day to release Andrei and others.

Wilford woke up before dawn. As he sat on the edge of the bed putting on his boots, he tied a knot in the laces, which he struggled to untie for a long time. Finally, he cut the knot with scissors and put on a new pair.

"Mayor, are you going to the scene?" Griffin stood at the door, his armor crooked, his helmet tucked under his arm, and his face still looking puffy from not having slept enough.

"Go." Wilford put his boots on firmly and straightened his collar. "This is a big event for Frosttown, after all. If we don't go and see, it would seem like we don't know our manners."

Griffin opened his mouth, but said nothing.

He followed Wilford out the door.

Griffin came up from the cellar steps.

"Mayor, the person has been brought out."

Andrei walked at the very front.

His white robe was no longer recognizable as its original color; it was dusty and gray, with the cuffs and hem covered in dust and cobwebs. A stubble had sprouted on his face.

Wilford glanced at him, said nothing, and nodded towards Griffin with his chin. Griffin walked up to Andrei and untied the rope from his wrists.

Wilford took a step forward.

"Mr. Andre, your detention period has ended. According to Bishop Wayne, you can leave now."

Andrei's gaze passed over Wilford.

"Where's Wayne?"

Wilford stood on the steps, his lips turned down, exuding an aura of "I'm different now."

"Lord Wayne, do you think you can just see him as you please?"

Andrei frowned slightly and moved his lips as if he wanted to say something.

Wilford didn't give him a chance to speak.

"You, a foreign missionary, came to our Frost Town to bully us, arrest our people, burn our people, and finally got killed in retaliation. And you still want to see our master? Who is our master? You think you can just see him like that? Are you worthy?"

Andrei's expression remained unchanged.

Wilford continued.

"Let me tell you, Andrei. From this day forward, Frost Town welcomes you, and so does the Kingdom of Wiggins. You'd better remember this day and never set foot in the Kingdom of Wiggins again. Otherwise, the next time we meet, your treatment won't be as simple as being imprisoned for thirty days."

Andrei looked up at Wilford and stared at him for a couple of breaths.

He showed no anger, no resentment, not even any emotional fluctuation; his pale face was completely expressionless.

"it is good."

Andrei continued.

"Please tell Wayne that I've been thinking a lot lately. In a way, I did betray my faith. I'm grateful to him for helping me get back on track. But because of my faith, I won't hide anything from him about what happened here. However, I won't frame him either."

Upon hearing Andrei's words, Wilford's eyes turned cold.

"You mean you'll still report everything that happened in Frosttown to the Holy See of St. Hilde?"

Andrei remained calm: "If you feel I pose a threat to your family, then kill me now."

Wilford turned his head away and gave a cold snort.

"Hmph, get lost! Before I change my mind."

Andrei didn't say anything more.

He turned and walked toward the north gate of Frost Town. The missionaries behind him followed, some with their heads down, some with unfocused eyes, and some with unsteady steps, like a group of people who had just woken up from a nightmare.

No one speaks.

No one looked back.

After everyone disappeared,

Griffin leaned closer to Wilford and lowered his voice.

"Sir, are we just going to let them go like this?"

Wilford stood on the steps with his hands behind his back.

"Killing him would only cause trouble for His Holiness the Bishop. Let's just do as His Holiness says."

Griffin opened his mouth as if to say something, then closed it again. He spat on the ground, slung the spear over his shoulder, and turned to leave.

Looking at the thick white fog.

Wilford's brow was furrowed.

Andre said he "wouldn't help him cover it up," meaning he would tell the Holy See of everything that happened in Frosttown exactly as it was. But he said he "wouldn't frame him," meaning he wouldn't embellish, exaggerate, or pin things on Wayne that didn't happen.

The problem is, the facts themselves are already deadly enough. A priest in a small border town detained a missionary team from the Church of St. Hilde, executed nearly ten people, burned their bodies, imprisoned more than a dozen people, including a candidate for cardinal, for thirty days, and finally released them without even an apology.

No matter how this matter is reported, no matter what wording is used, no matter how it is embellished, it will be a bombshell when it reaches the Holy See of St. Hilde.

There is a buffer if we don't kill.

There was no room for maneuver left.

Wilford sighed.

"Never mind, let's go find His Holiness the Bishop."

On the other side, inside the church.

Wayne was sitting at the table reading a book.

The panel then appeared.

[Witch Cult - Itinerary Report]

[Current location: Left Kent province where Frosttown is located, currently traveling along the Northern Road towards Kansas. Approximately two-thirds of the journey remains. Barring unforeseen circumstances, arrival at the destination is expected in twenty-five days.]

[Encounters en route: Three attacks by small magical beasts, all below tier two, with no casualties. One interception by bandits; approximately twenty people, who retreated upon seeing the size and equipment of the caravan's guards. The Witch Cult did not pursue, preferring to avoid trouble.]

[Note: After leaving you, Lynette regretted not joining Emily and Dora sooner. If she had acted sooner, she might have gained more. She could tolerate the initial separation, but as time went on, she began to feel pain. She was pained that she could no longer thank the goddess with you. She didn't blame anyone but herself for being too reserved. So, she could only thank the goddess in her memories. At least the memories were real; even if the images were blurry, the feeling remained.]

[Note 2: Due to the loss of control over the powers of the Order's witch Dila, Lillian lost some of her memories related to you. She remembers you as the bishop of Frosttown, that you could brew potions, and that you were a collaborator with the Order. But she doesn't remember the specific scenes after those treatments. Simply put, the memories of meeting the goddess with your help, or learning gratitude from the goddess with Emily, are all gone. She only knows that she spent some time with you, but the specifics of that time are just a blur in her mind. She has now become that innocent little girl again. Pure and simple, like a blank sheet of paper.]

[P.S.: Just today, Wilford released Andrei as you requested. Wilford is currently on his way to the church.]
