Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong
Chapter 231 Dalton
Wayne remained calm in the face of Wilford's question.
"No need to rush."
Wilford also calmed down.
He didn't urge him.
Having followed Wayne for so long, he had figured out some patterns. When Wayne said "no rush," he really meant it. It wasn't feigned composure or putting on a brave face; he already knew what was going on.
The panel popped up at this point.
Frosttown - The Order to Withdraw - The Truth
There are no messengers in Frosttown.
[The person who wants to harm you is Casa's brother, Dalton. He was your classmate at the seminary and is now the assistant bishop of the diocese of Bellino, whose main job is to assist the legitimate bishop. He's the one who had the order to withdraw the church sealed.]
[Dalton - Biographical Information]
[Position: Archbishop Auxiliary of the Diocese of Bellino, age 32, graduated from Wien's Theological Seminary along with Wayne. His academic performance was above average, neither outstanding nor at the bottom. He is of good appearance and can be considered handsome.]
[Past: After graduating from the seminary, he was assigned to the diocese of Bellino, starting as a low-ranking deacon. He worked his way up to assistant bishop over ten years. During those ten years, he held three different positions, none lasting long, but each transfer was upwards. His promotion speed was relatively fast among his peers, not because of outstanding ability, but because of his interpersonal skills—more precisely, he climbed to the position of assistant bishop by selling himself out. For this, he repeatedly relied on magical potions to repair his pitiful body.]
[Motive: To avenge his brother.]
[His true motive: jealousy of your beauty. He's been jealous of you since your seminary days. Back then, you hadn't even fully grown up, yet you were already considered the most handsome student in the history of Wiggins Theological Seminary. He's heard rumors that the Pope favors you, and if you really return to the capital, his path to promotion will be indefinitely delayed.]
Dalton.
In the same class as the seminary.
Wayne didn't have much of an impression of him.
Meanwhile, Wilford was thinking to himself.
Someone as outstanding as Wayne must have been exceptional at the seminary.
Frost Town.
Church graves.
One comes, one dies; two come, two die. The previous bishops either went mad, ran away, or died in office. What's the difference between the Vatican sending Wayne here and sending him to his death?
Unless, someone deliberately sent him here.
Although Wilford didn't know the name Dalton, he knew that someone wanted to harm Wayne. Whoever dared to harm Wayne was going against Frosttown. And whoever was going against Frosttown was going against him, Wilford.
Anyone who crosses Wilford will be shown what it means to "make the mayor angry, and the consequences will be severe."
He looked up at Wayne.
"Sir, has something come to mind?"
Wayne picked up his teacup and took a sip.
"Just some insignificant people and things."
Wilford thought to himself, "Just as I expected."
He didn't ask any further questions.
[Wilford - Current Status]
[Status: Highly motivated. He decided that once he arrived in Bellinor, the first thing he would do was find out who had withheld Frosttown's evacuation order. Once he found out, he'd decide how to deal with them. If open methods didn't work, he'd use covert ones; if covert methods didn't work, he'd use dirty ones. He wasn't afraid of dirty tricks; after all, his reputation in Frosttown wasn't exactly stellar.]
At this moment, Wayne spoke up.
"Mr. Wilford."
"exist."
"Don't worry about the withdrawal order."
Wilford's brow twitched.
"What does Your Excellency mean?"
"Everything is subject to the kingdom's relocation order," Wayne said calmly. "Unless someone believes they can supersede divine authority."
Wilford was stunned.
He opened his mouth, turning the question over and over in his mind, each time more confused than the last. Above divine authority? Who? The one who detained the religious decree? Or the Papacy?
"Um...sir, what are you saying? I don't quite understand. What does the kingdom's relocation order have to do with divine authority?"
Wayne tilted his head to look at him, a slight smile curving his lips.
"Mayor, don't forget, our king is the representative of divine authority on earth."
Wien continued, "The scriptures of the Wiggins Kingdom clearly state that 'the king is the goddess's representative on earth, his authority originates from the goddess, and his will is divine will.' This is not rhetoric, but doctrine. It's written in black and white, in the first verse of Chapter 3 of the Holy Scripture."
Wilford's throat moved.
"so……"
"Therefore, the Kingdom's relocation order is a concrete manifestation of divine authority on earth. The Papacy's withdrawal order is merely a detailed implementation rule. There may be no detailed rules, but divine will cannot be defied."
Wilford's eyes slowly brightened.
He understood.
I don't understand everything, but I understand most of it.
The kingdom's relocation decree was signed by the king, who is the goddess's representative; therefore, the relocation decree is divine will. The papacy's withdrawal decree is merely an execution plan of divine will, not divine will itself. Someone may have withheld the execution plan, but divine will remains. Divine will does not need a piece of paper to prove itself.
Wilford punched his own palm.
"Sir, what's wrong with your brain...?"
He glanced at Wayne, swallowed the rest of his question, "How did it grow?", and phrased it differently.
"Your Excellency is right. The King is the Goddess's representative on Earth, and the relocation order is the will of the Goddess. Anyone who dares to obstruct the will of the Goddess is going against her. Those who go against the Goddess will be burned at the stake."
Wilford stood up from the stone bench.
"My lord, I'll head back now. I'll check with the province of Bellino again regarding the relocation order and see what the specific schedule is. I'll let you know as soon as I have any news."
Wayne nodded.
"Thanks for your hard work."
Wilford waved his hand and strode away.
After Wilford left, before the footsteps in the corridor had completely disappeared, a pale blue head peeked out from the door frame.
Ella clung to the doorframe, looking at Wayne.
"Owner."
"Um."
"I am coming."
Wayne glanced at her sideways.
"Come for treatment?"
Ella gently scratched at the door frame with her fingers.
"Yes, but it's a witch's curse healing."
"You just had treatment yesterday, are you sure it will work?"
Ella was clever; she naturally replaced two keywords from Wayne's question.
Her lips moved slightly.
"Um... Master, I can do it."
Wayne remained silent for a moment.
Ella's heart leaped into her throat.
It’s over.
Does my owner think I'm being too forward?
Does the owner not like this?
Wayne then spoke up.
"Oh...I see. Come in!"
Half an hour later.
Treatment completed.
Wayne stood by the window, his back to her.
"How are you feeling?"
Ella straightened her skirt.
"Master, very good, the witch's curse has been suppressed."
"Yeah?"
"Um."
The panel then appeared.
[Ella - Second Stage]
[Test Results: Advancement to Second-Tier Witch. Ice magic purity has increased by approximately 40% compared to First-Tier, and total magic power has roughly doubled. The color of the Witch's Curse petals is much deeper than before First-Tier, visually deepening from the pink after the previous treatment to a lighter red.]
[Note: If your water magic hadn't intervened in time, she would have fallen into a state of mild instability within three months, given the current rate of erosion. After treatment, the curse has been suppressed below a safe threshold, and there's no need to worry in the short term.]
[Note 2: She is currently contemplating some philosophical questions. Does growing up mean learning to coexist peacefully with that uncontrollable part of yourself, neither indulging nor suppressing it? Between reason and instinct, whose hand should hold the delicate reins? She used to think it was in her own hand, but now she's unsure; she's come to appreciate letting go.]
