Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong
Chapter 298 An Unexpected Person
Wayne did not answer Hilda's question, but instead looked into the distance.
"Friends in the shadows, come out."
Tiffany's pupils contracted sharply.
Are there more people behind?
During her fight with Wayne, she didn't detect the presence of any third party. If someone had been lurking on the periphery of the battlefield from beginning to end, witnessing their battle with Wayne without her sensing any trace of them, it meant that person's stealth abilities far exceeded her capabilities.
She instinctively tried to stand up, but her magic had not yet recovered, and her knees buckled, causing her to fall back down.
Hilda and Salia also looked grim.
There was a brief silence in the depths of the tree shadows.
Then, a round of applause came from the darkness.
Pop, pop, pop.
A tall figure slowly emerged from the shadows of the trees. Moonlight fell on his shoulders, illuminating his playful face.
Luxembourg.
Vice-Commander of the Dragonblood Knights, a fifth-tier knight.
Wayne's gaze sharpened, and his brows furrowed.
Unexpectedly, the "wild card" was actually this person.
If it's this person, then we're in trouble.
Suppressing his shock, Wayne revealed his surprise: "I made many assumptions. I imagined it was mercenaries, wandering mages, even assassins from St. Hilde. The only person I didn't expect was you, Vice-Commander Lucian. I never imagined that as the Vice-Commander of the Dragonblood Knights, you would side with the old guard of the Church."
Luxem stood at the boundary between shadows.
He didn't rush to defend himself, but instead spoke casually like an old friend: "Wayne, I was quite surprised that you were able to resolve the crisis so easily. I originally didn't plan to intervene; that would have been more dignified for everyone."
The conversation between the two left Tiffany stunned.
She quickly gleaned crucial information from their conversation—the vice-commander of the Dragonblood Knights, a member of the Heinrich family, had unknowingly defected.
However, what shocked her even more was:
Wayne!
She'd heard that name from the sisters in Frosttown in their letters. He could break the witch's curse; he was someone who could change the witch's future. She never imagined that the person they were tasked with assassinating tonight would be him!
That damned Vatican almost made her make a mistake.
Tiffany stood in front of Wayne: "You should leave! He's a fifth-tier knight, the core fighting force of the Dragonblood Knights. You're no match for him."
She tried to mobilize the magic power within her.
"The three of us will hold him off. You get out of here now. Anyone can die, but you can't."
Hilda and Salia exchanged a glance, then stood on either side of Tiffany, blocking Wayne's path.
"Big sister is right, you can't die."
Lu Sen was puzzled as he looked at the woman who had been shouting for battle one second and then desperately blocking his way the next.
"Hey, you three witches, are you out of your minds? Shouldn't the script be that we team up to kill this guy in front of us, and then each go collect our reward?"
Hilda replied without any politeness.
"Yes, yes, you big dummy!"
Lucien ignored her insults and instead looked at Wayne: "I never expected that a clergyman would collude with witches, and even make them willingly take the fall for you. Wayne, Wayne, you're really making me more and more curious."
Wayne pulled the three of them behind him.
"In your current state, you're not even as good as second-tier mages, and you think you can shield me from others? Don't you use your brains?"
He threw a bottle of potion to each of the three men.
"If you want me to truly survive, you'd better recover your strength quickly. I'll give that person a try."
Upon hearing what Wien said, Luxem laughed.
"Try it? Wayne, aren't you being a little too confident in your abilities? You just dealt with those three witches, which must have taken at least half your strength. Right now, you're at most a mid-stage fourth-tier cultivator. What makes you think you can fight me?"
Wayne did not answer.
He took a step forward and removed the cross.
Seeing that he had assumed a fighting stance, Lu Sen said nothing more and slowly placed his right hand on the hilt of the sword at his waist.
"Since you are determined to die, then I will grant your wish."
The two immediately engaged in combat.
Without a word, Wayne swung the cross. This attack was entirely unprepared, a full-force strike.
The cross, accompanied by a whooshing sound, slammed into Lusen's face with such force that it even left a blurry afterimage in the air.
Luxem did not back down.
He drew his sword with his right hand and blocked the attack.
clang!
The sound of metal clashing exploded in the night sky, sparks flying everywhere. Several fine cracks appeared on the ground beneath Lucien's feet, but he remained unshaken, steadily catching the blow.
"...That was a lot of force."
He raised his head and looked at Wayne, the leisurely air in his eyes finally fading, replaced by a serious scrutiny.
Wayne gave him no chance to catch his breath.
The second strike followed.
The cross swung horizontally from the side, aiming for Lucien's waist. Lucien dodged to the side and raised his sword to block.
clang!
A second crack appeared on the blade.
Then came the third and fourth strikes.
Wayne's attacks were relentless, without the slightest pause or respite. The cross in his hands seemed weightless, each strike carrying the power to shatter boulders, landing precisely on Lusen's defensive points.
Luxem blocked seven attacks in a row.
The moment he completed the seventh parry, the standard longsword in his hand let out a crisp, mournful cry, broke in half, and the front half of the blade spun out and stuck into the mud not far away.
Lu Sen held the broken sword in his hand and glanced down at it.
Then he casually tossed the broken sword half to the ground and flexed his fingers.
"There aren't many people who can break my weapon."
Instead of picking up a new weapon, he clenched his fists, lowered his waist slightly, and assumed a pure knightly fighting stance.
He took a deep breath, and with a sudden jolt, a visible crimson battle aura erupted from his body, coiling around his arms and shoulder blades. Enveloped in the battle aura, his muscles bulged out.
Wayne didn't answer. He gripped the cross tightly with both hands, adjusted his breathing, and mobilized all his remaining battle energy, covering the surface of the cross. Holy light and battle energy intertwined, creating a faint golden glow in the night.
The two moved at the same time.
Lu Sen met the attack with his bare hands, without using any weapons. His fists were wrapped in crimson battle aura, and wherever his fist passed, the air was torn apart with a low, shrill sound.
Wayne did not back down and swung the cross in a wide arc, smashing it down.
The fist collides head-on with the cross.
boom!
A visible shockwave exploded from the point of impact.
Wayne slid back seven or eight steps before regaining his balance. A tearing pain shot through his hand as he gripped the cross. Looking down, he saw a gash in his hand, blood trickling down the handle of the cross.
