Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong
Chapter 326 Wayne's Excuse
Just then, Wayne made the suggestion.
"Let's go, let's go to your house and take a look."
This suggestion caught Anka completely off guard.
"Sir, to...to my house? Now?"
Wayne turned to look at her: "What? Do you want your sister's symptoms to continue to worsen?"
Anka quickly realized what was happening. Without hesitation, she hurried to catch up with Wayne. The two walked out of the Black Order's gates, one after the other.
As Wayne walked, he calmly reassured Anka, "Don't worry, I won't hurt your sister. On the contrary, I might be able to help her through this difficult time."
Anka paused, looked up at Wayne's profile, a hint of uncertain expectation in her eyes: "My lord...you said you could help Anise...is that true?"
"Really." Wayne didn't turn around, his tone certain. "When I was in Frosttown, I cured many witches like your sister who were suffering from curses. If nothing unexpected happens, I should be able to handle your sister's symptoms as well."
Hearing Wayne's bold statement, Anka didn't feel completely relieved; instead, she became even more nervous. She instinctively glanced left and right at the passersby on the street, lowered her voice, and quickly caught up with Wayne's pace: "Sir...aren't you afraid?"
"What are you afraid of? Afraid of being led to the gallows?"
Anka nodded.
Wayne did not answer immediately.
He took a few steps forward before speaking slowly, his tone carrying something Anka had never seen in any of the Vatican personnel: "Anka, you must remember one thing. In this world, the power to speak always belongs to the strong. If you don't want to be criticized, the first thing you must do is make yourself strong enough."
After hearing this, Anka remained silent for a long while. She neither refuted nor questioned it further. She led Wayne and turned into a narrower alley.
Soon, Wayne followed Anka into a residential area. The streets here were much narrower than in the main city, and the houses on both sides were somewhat old, belonging to the lower and middle classes.
Anka stood in front of a drab apartment building and said somewhat hesitantly, "Sir... your living quarters are rather simple, I hope you don't mind."
Wayne didn't seem to care. He glanced at the building's exterior and casually asked, "Why are you living in a place like this? With your salary in the Black Order, you shouldn't need to live here, right?"
Anka gave a wry smile: "In a place like the Black Order, it's hard enough for one person to support themselves, let alone take care of my sister. My salary is often deducted for various reasons, so sometimes I take on commissions from the Adventurers' Guild, join temporary teams, and explore the dungeons outside the capital to earn some extra money to supplement my family's income."
Upon hearing the word "labyrinth," Wayne's gaze flickered slightly. Once upon a time, he too had longed to become an adventurer, to explore underground ruins that held ancient secrets. Unfortunately, he had chosen a different path, and hearing Anka mention it now felt like a distant memory.
He quickly pulled his wandering thoughts back, looked at Anka, and said in a more serious tone, "I see. From now on, your salary in the Black Order will triple. I'll make up the difference privately."
Anka was visibly taken aback for a moment, then an undisguised look of joy appeared in her eyes: "R-really? My lord!"
"real."
Anka opened her mouth, wanting to say something to express her gratitude, but the words seemed too weak. In the end, she simply nodded vigorously: "...Thank you, sir!"
Wayne didn't dwell on the topic; he followed Anka into the apartment building.
The two walked up to the third floor.
Before long, the two arrived at their destination. Anka was about to open the door when Wayne stopped in his tracks.
[Annise - Current Status]
[Location: Inside the bedroom, standing in front of the corner of the desk.]
[Event: She is giving thanks to the goddess with her heart and soul. No! To be precise, she is not giving thanks to the goddess. She does not worship the goddess Atlas, but rather the newly born demon of desire, Lilith. Therefore, she is giving thanks to Lilith through her actions.]
[Note: It is advised not to disturb someone who is putting their faith into practice. Her ritual is in its final stages, and forcibly interrupting it may cause a backlash of magic.]
Wien paused for a moment.
Seeing him standing motionless at the doorway, Anka asked uneasily in a low voice, "Sir... what's wrong?"
Wayne withdrew his gaze and turned to Anka, his tone certain: "Your guess is correct. Your sister is indeed an awakened witch, and a Root Witch at that, whose primary power lies in desire."
Anka was shocked.
Although she didn't know much about the witch system, she did know what the words "Root Level" meant. It was the rarest, most powerful, and most easily targeted category of witches. Her mouth hung open, and she stood there stunned, as if struck by lightning.
"My lord... are you telling the truth?"
Wayne nodded. "Yes. Not only that, she also worshipped the devil."
Anka's face turned pale instantly.
"Faith...in the devil?"
Upon hearing this, Anka felt as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over her head. She abruptly turned to the door, reached for the lock, and made as if to rush inside.
Wayne reached out and stopped her.
"Don't rush, wait a moment."
Anka's eyes reddened with anxiety, her hand hovering in mid-air, her voice trembling noticeably: "Wait? Why should we wait? Sir, she's my sister! I have to go in and see her!"
"But if you rush in now, you'll only scare her, and it might even trigger a magical backlash, which won't do her any good. Let's wait until she's done with that."
Anka then became puzzled.
"End it? When will it end?"
Wayne paused for a moment.
End what? Anka's question is really hard to answer.
He quickly gathered his thoughts and, mimicking the serious tone of the control panel, said, "End of Thanksgiving to the Goddess."
Anka paused, her gaze becoming even more confused: "My lord, didn't you say... my sister worships demons? Then why is she still thanking the goddess?"
Wayne remained unfazed and continued naturally, "Uh... well, this is her method of suppressing the demonic power within her. By praying to the goddess, she balances the corruption brought by the demons; it's a spiritual form of resistance."
After listening, Anka still felt something was amiss, but Wayne spoke with such certainty that she couldn't find any flaws. Similarly, although she was a member of the church, she didn't know much about certain beliefs concerning demons.
She nodded thoughtfully, her tone tinged with admiration: "I see... Sir, you are truly knowledgeable."
Wayne accepted the compliment without batting an eye, silently swallowing his anger.
