Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong

Chapter 331 The Trouble-Making Paladin

As everyone was having breakfast, faint sounds of arguing suddenly came from the front yard. The noise grew louder and louder, and people could be heard shouting something even through several walls.

The old butler rushed in from the direction of the entrance hall, his robes billowing in the wind, and before he could even catch his breath, he began to report.

"Young Master! Your Excellency the Marquis! Something terrible has happened! The Holy Knight Inspection Team is trying to break in and has clashed with the guards in the front yard!"

Wayne was not surprised by the old guard's troublemaking.

"What's their reason for coming?"

The old steward breathed a sigh of relief: "They said... someone reported that our household is harboring a witch."

Lynch slammed his cutlery on the table. "How dare they! A paladin's inspection team dares to trespass on my, Lynch Angus's, residence?"

The old butler lowered his head and lowered his voice.

"The leader is a paladin squad leader at the peak of the fourth tier. The messenger from the front yard said that Marco and Eugene are currently blocking the way. Although they are both early-stage fourth-tier warriors, the squad leader has more men with him, so they probably won't be able to hold them off for long. Young master, you'd better go and see for yourself."

Wayne looked at Alice.

Alice immediately understood and nodded slightly at him.

"Brother, I'm not going. I'm scared of this kind of fighting and killing." After she finished speaking, she got up and walked towards the side building.

Wayne withdrew his gaze and glanced at Lin Qi, who was still angry: "Father, let's go out and take a look together."

Lynch couldn't have been happier to hear that. He followed Wayne, and the two of them quickly crossed the corridor and headed towards the front gate.

The situation in the front yard was quite ugly. Marco was kneeling on one knee, a bloodstain on the corner of his mouth, wiping his mouth with his left hand; he had clearly taken a severe beating.

Eugene was in a worse state; he lay face up on the stone floor, trying to get up while supporting himself on the ground, his arms still trembling slightly.

Five or six paladins in silver armor stood before the two, led by a burly middle-aged man who looked down at Marco and Eugene lying on the ground with a condescending expression and undisguised mockery in his tone:

"Is this all the Angus family's guards are capable of? They even dare to stop the inspection team from carrying out their duties. They really don't know what's good for them."

Wayne strode through the crowd of guards to the center of the front yard, stopping in front of Marco and Eugene.

He didn't rush to look at the squad leader. He first glanced down at Marco and Eugene's injuries to make sure there were no fatal wounds before raising his gaze to the squad leader's face.

The panel unfolds in view.

[Aubrey, the Paladin Inspector General's Squad Leader]

After scanning the panel, Wayne looked at Aubrey in front of him and said, "Do you know where this is?"

Aubrey raised his chin slightly, his tone brimming with an air of unbridled confidence: "The Holy Knight Inspection Team received a report that your residence is harboring a witch. According to regulations, we have the right to enter and search the residence. The Angus family's guards obstructed the inspection team from carrying out their duties, and according to the laws of the Holy See, I have the right to forcibly enter."

Wayne didn't respond, but asked again, his tone more forceful than before: "I'll ask you one more time, do you know where this is?"

Aubrey's expression stiffened slightly; he clearly hadn't expected this reaction from the young head of the Black Order. He still stubbornly retorted, "It's just the Marquis of Angus's mansion, what's there to ask?"

Wayne nodded, a faint smile playing on his lips. "Very well, at least you know this is the residence of a nobleman of earldom or higher. Then let me ask you, do you have a warrant?"

Aubrey paused for a moment at the question, but quickly recovered: "The situation was urgent. I was dispatched immediately after receiving the report. I've already had the search warrant processed; it's on its way and will arrive soon. I conducted the search first, and the warrant will be issued afterward—it's completely compliant."

"Oh?" Wayne's voice rose slightly at the end. "So, you don't have an inspection warrant, right? Without a formal document from the Cardinals to the Court, without any legal procedures, you dared to force your way into the Marquis's mansion. Is this what you call 'complete compliance'?"

Aubrey opened his mouth, but was momentarily speechless after being rebuked. The paladins behind him exchanged glances, their previously smug expressions changing—they had never expected that the person before them was someone who knew the law.

Wayne didn't give him a chance to continue: "I'm only giving you one choice now. Apologize, pay for my guards' medical expenses, and then... get out!"

Aubrey glanced down at the hilt of his sword, then looked up at Wayne's expressionless face. A surge of humiliated anger welled up in his chest. He gritted his teeth, his voice barely holding back his last bit of bravado: "What if I insist on investigating?"

As soon as he finished speaking, Wayne disappeared from his sight.

Owen's figure vanished from the spot for a moment.

The next instant, he was already standing in front of Aubrey.

Aubrey's pupils constricted sharply, and he instinctively tried to raise his hand to block, but Wayne was much faster. A clean, straight punch landed on his chest, and Aubrey was sent flying backward like he'd been hit head-on by a charging rhinoceros, crashing heavily into the stone lions in front of the Marquis's mansion.

boom!

The stone lion's base trembled, and several fine cracks appeared on its surface. Aubrey slid off the stone lion, kneeling on one knee, a trickle of blood escaping from the corner of his mouth. He raised his head, his eyes filled with a mixture of shock and anger.

"...You dare to lay a hand on a paladin?"

Wayne stood there and wiped his fist: "I gave you a choice, and you didn't want it."

Aubrey propped himself up on his knees, his breathing still a little unsteady, but the anger in his eyes had overshadowed the shock.

"Attack the Paladin Inspection Team? You're asking for death!"

As soon as he finished speaking, the six paladins behind him drew their swords in unison, the blades gleaming coldly in the morning light.

Wayne didn't back down. His gaze swept over the six people before him, his tone remaining calm: "At my doorstep, drawing your sword and pointing it at the heir to the Marquis's mansion. If this scene were to reach the palace, do you think I'd be the one to suffer, or your inspection team that can't even produce an inspection warrant?"

Aubrey froze for a moment, his gaze darkening. Finally, he glared at Wayne and sheathed his sword.

"...Fall back."

The six paladins sheathed their swords.

They turned around and prepared to leave.

However, Wayne's voice came through.

"Wait, did I say you could leave?"
