Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong
Chapter 409 Rejecting Ophina
Wayne didn't respond, waiting for her to continue.
Ophina stood up and took a step forward.
"You should have noticed that the rules of this city are changing. The slumbering gods are about to awaken for the last time, and the entire city's structure will be rewritten. This is an opportunity."
"What are you trying to say?"
"Help me obtain the divine inheritance." Ophina looked into his eyes, her tone resolute. "After it's done, I will offer you the forbidden artifact you're looking for."
After hearing this, Wayne did not hesitate.
"I refuse."
Ophina paused for a moment, then smiled.
She didn't seem surprised by Wayne's rejection.
"Won't you reconsider? This offer is entirely beneficial to you. You want forbidden items, I want the legacy; we each get what we need."
"What makes you think you can get your hands on the forbidden item?" Wayne retorted. "If it were that easy to get, you wouldn't be the one making the deal."
Ofina's smile remained unchanged.
"I'm just giving you a suggestion. Don't rush to answer now; you can go back and think about it. The waters in the city are deeper than you think; if you try to wade through alone, you'll easily get yourself into trouble."
Wayne stood there, watching Ophina's figure disappear through the broken church doors.
He didn't take her words to heart.
Cooperation? A mutually beneficial arrangement? To put it bluntly, she wants to use him to obtain the divine inheritance, and then use a forbidden artifact, whose possession is still unknown, as a bargaining chip. He'd be a fool to agree to such a get-rich-quick scheme.
Just as he was about to leave, a series of chaotic footsteps suddenly came from the church entrance.
It wasn't one person, it was four or five.
Several people, dressed in the greyish-white robes of divine servants, filed in. The one in the lead was a tall man with a fairly respectable face, but the look in his eyes was rather strange.
As soon as they entered, they completely blocked the church entrance. The leader glanced at Wayne and immediately began questioning him.
"So you're the outsider who refused Lady Ophina's invitation?"
"it's me."
Upon hearing this, the men's expressions immediately changed.
The leader raised his voice several decibels: "Lady Ophina has come to invite you personally, which is an honor! Do you know what the Divine Servant Corps is? Do you know Lady Ophina's status? A God-giver! She is favored by the gods! You are an outsider, and she has condescended to come to you, yet you dare to refuse?"
"Exactly, who do you think you are?"
"Lady Ophina meant well, and you, instead, embarrassed her right there!"
Several people followed, chattering away, their voices growing louder and louder, each one red-faced and thick-necked, as if Wayne had committed some heinous crime.
Wayne's gaze swept across their faces, and he subtly took a half-step back. These people seemed to have come to protect Ophina, but something about them was off.
Wayne has seen this situation many times before.
A state where one can be mentally manipulated at a glance.
Before they knew it, the five of them had formed a semi-encircling formation, completely blocking Wayne's path to the church entrance.
Wayne didn't panic.
He glanced at the man in the lead.
"Are you guys looking for trouble?"
The leader paused for a moment.
"What?"
"Hey you guys, are you deliberately trying to cause trouble?"
The leader's eyelids twitched, but he immediately resumed his indignant demeanor.
"What nonsense are you spouting! Lady Ophina kindly invited you, and you don't appreciate it at all, instead turning around and accusing her? What exactly do you want?!"
"Exactly! Someone like you doesn't deserve even a glance from Lady Ophina!"
Another short, stout servant of the gods followed behind him, a dagger slipping from his sleeve into his palm.
Wayne sighed.
He hadn't planned to fight today, but since the other person had already brought out a weapon, he felt bad letting them make a wasted trip.
The short, stout servant of the god moved first.
He lunged forward, his hand, which had been concealing a dagger, lashing out from behind his back and thrusting straight at Wayne's chest. The movement was ruthless, showing no mercy; if the blow landed, Wayne would be severely injured, if not killed.
Wayne dodged to the side.
The short, stout servant missed his target; his dagger grazed the hem of Wayne's clothes, striking nothing.
Before he could regain his balance, Wayne reached out with his right hand, grabbed his wrist, and used the momentum of his forward movement to pull him to the side, while simultaneously tripping him lightly.
The short, stout servant was thrown to the ground, his hand dagger flying out of his hand and rolling a long way away.
By the time the others realized what was happening, the short, stout servant was already sprawled on the ground.
The leader's expression changed, and without the slightest hesitation, he barked, "Attack together!"
The four men pounced on Wayne almost simultaneously.
This time, Wayne didn't dodge.
He charged straight at the servant of the god who was at the front, and crashed directly into the man's chest.
The servant was twice the size of Wayne, and weighed at least twice as much. But with this collision, he was thrown back while still in the air, flying backward and crashing into a row of benches behind him.
Before the other three could react, Wayne had already landed among them.
Although his body had turned into that of a child, the skeleton and muscles were still essentially Wayne's own, and his speed, reaction, and strength far exceeded what a normal person should have.
However, his attack method had completely changed. He no longer used large-scale magic to suppress them, but instead focused on close-range grappling and striking, weaving and moving between them.
In less than a few breaths.
All five people were lying on the ground.
They were all staggering, some clutching their stomachs, some hugging their arms, and some lying on the ground panting heavily, all of their previous arrogance gone.
Wayne glanced at the people on the ground, his gaze finally settling on the leading servant of the gods, and then he squatted down.
"I have a few questions for you. Think them through before you answer."
The leader clutched his stomach, his face contorted in pain, but he remained defiant: "You... don't even think about it! The Divine Servant Team won't let you get away with this!"
Before the leader could finish speaking, the people on the ground began to tremble violently, and then their eyes turned an unnatural blood red.
Wayne knew this was a sign of deepening mind control. The suggestions Ophina had placed on them had been triggered, and now these people had completely lost their autonomy, driven only by an obsession to continue their attack.
Several people suddenly jumped up.
Without further hesitation, Wayne moved swiftly, sidestepping past the leading servant, his right hand forming a blade, and precisely slashed at the back of the man's neck. The man didn't even utter a sound; his eyes rolled back, and he collapsed to the ground.
Wayne didn't confront them directly. Taking advantage of the gaps in the crowd, he struck each of them once on the back of the neck or temple, with muffled cracking sounds echoing one after another. In the blink of an eye, another group of people lay on the ground.
All five people collapsed.
After finishing these tasks, Wayne straightened up, dusted off his hands, stepped over the bodies on the ground, and walked out of the church.
