Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong
Chapter 416 The Mutant Divine Wolf
The group walked down the mine tunnel.
After walking for about fifteen minutes, the mine tunnel gradually opened up, and the space in front of us was several times larger than the first level.
Debon walked ahead and introduced the place to Wayne: "This is the second level, mainly composed of mineral layers, which are much larger than the first level. During the day, people come down to mine for magic crystals, but at night, almost no one dares to come."
Before Debon could finish speaking, he suddenly stopped. In the mine tunnel ahead, a pair of eyes glowing with a dark red light lit up.
It was a wolf-shaped monster, much larger than a normal wolf, with gray-black fur. Most striking of all were the five eyes on its forehead, emitting a faint green light.
It crouched in the middle of the mine tunnel, its body low to the ground, making a deep, rumbling sound in its throat. Clearly, it had spotted the intruders before it.
At that moment, Sanders and Rocco both stopped in their tracks.
The two men exchanged a glance, neither drawing their weapons, clearly indicating they had no intention of attacking. They were curious to see just what kind of person this "child" was.
Debon warned, "Be careful, this is a second-tier Five-Eyed Demon Wolf. These things have an extremely keen sense of smell; it followed us into the mine by scent. Don't rush into action; it appeared alone on the second level..."
He didn't finish his sentence.
The five-eyed demon wolf moved.
The gray-black figure shot out from its spot, so fast it almost left afterimages, heading straight for Wayne's throat.
Wayne sidestepped the wolf's claws, then slashed diagonally with his right palm. A faint white light shone from the edge of his palm as he cut into the wolf's jaw, slicing along its neck and cleanly slicing through its throat and spine.
With a soft "poof".
The wolf's body crashed heavily onto the mine floor, its limbs twitched twice, and then it lay still.
Blood seeped into the slag heap.
Debon wanted to remind him, "Don't rush to make a move," but before he could finish speaking, the wolf was already dead.
He cleared his throat, his tone distinctly polite: "Young man, impressive skill. That was clean and swift. If it were me, I'd have to fight it for at least a few rounds to take it down."
While Debon was praising them sincerely, he was secretly pleased with himself.
His guess was right; the child before him was no ordinary person. Fortunately, he had said a few kind words when he had Wayne walk ahead at the cave entrance, preventing things from getting too tense. In a place like this, offending someone with real skills was more troublesome than running into a monster.
Wayne didn't stand on ceremony with him, his gaze sweeping over the surrounding mine tunnels.
"Don't let your guard down, we're surrounded."
Debon paused slightly, followed his gaze, and then his heart sank.
Pairs of eyes lit up from the shadows around the mine tunnel. Dark green, dark red, and grayish-yellow eyes emerged densely from the cracks and side passages on both sides of the tunnel, surrounding the group.
One, two, three... fourteen heads.
Including the one on the ground, there were a total of fifteen demon wolves.
They arched their backs, lowered their forelimbs, and let out suppressed growls from their throats. Instead of rushing forward, they slowly tightened their encirclement, surrounding the four of them.
Sanders finally spoke.
"This isn't right. There shouldn't be so many monsters on the second floor. I've been here many times, and I usually only encounter two or three at most. Fifteen at once? I've never seen anything like it before."
Rocco gripped the bowstring, her eyes fixed on the wolf pack: "Down there, nothing is impossible. Besides, isn't the blood sacrifice tonight just around the corner?"
The moment she finished speaking, her hand moved.
With a whistling sound, the bowstring twanged, and the arrow shot through the air, striking a demonic wolf squarely in the forehead. The wolf collapsed instantly, its limbs twitching twice before falling still.
This arrow seemed to have pressed a switch.
The wolves pounced at the same time.
Debon and Sanders also got involved.
Debon drew his sword and held it low in front of him, his feet firmly planted, as he charged towards the first wolf. Sanders slammed his shield into the ground with a muffled thud, sending the nearest wolf flying. He then used the edge of his shield to extend his short axe and cleave at the second wolf.
Wayne didn't wait for the wolves to pounce on him.
He rushed forward to meet them.
He glided past the side of a demonic wolf, fired a water spike, and with a crisp crack, the wolf fell silent before it even hit the ground.
With a twist of his toes, Wayne used the momentum to push off the mine tunnel wall, launched himself back, and kicked away another wolf that was lunging at Sanders.
Suddenly, a long howl came from deep within the mine tunnel.
That's the leader of the wolf pack.
It stood on a protruding rock platform, and its whistling sound bounced back and forth in the mine tunnel, making people's eardrums tingle.
The wolf pack changed the moment the howl ended.
The closest wolf's muscles suddenly bulged, and its size increased by almost a full circle in just a few breaths.
The limbs grew thicker, the claws became longer, and even the originally gray-black fur was stained with a layer of dark red lines.
Almost simultaneously, the surrounding demon wolves underwent the same change, their sizes expanding.
Debon's expression changed drastically, and he blurted out, "A demonic transformation?! Damn it, how could it be a demonic transformation?!"
Wayne had just punched a charging wolf to the ground, and without turning his head, he asked, "Anomaly? Is there anything special about this?"
"Special?!" Debon forced the wolf in front of him back with a single sword strike, retreating to Wayne's side. "Monster mutation is an extremely rare occurrence! It might happen in one out of a hundred! After mutating, the monster's combat power increases by at least one level! Normally, encountering even one of these is considered extremely unlucky, but this whole litter has all mutated!"
As he spoke, he pointed the tip of his sword at the mutating wolves: "See those? They were originally Tier 2, but now they're at least Tier 2, and some have even reached the threshold of Tier 3!"
Before he could finish speaking, a muffled thud came from the side.
A long crack appeared on Sanders' shield.
A mutated werewolf stood up, its front paws slamming into the shield with a whooshing sound, instantly widening the cracks and scattering metal fragments everywhere.
Sanders was so shocked that he took two steps back, his hand went numb, and his entire right arm was shaking.
On the other hand, Rocco's situation was even worse.
She dodged a wolf's attack by sidestepping to the side.
Before she could fire a second arrow, a third wolf darted out from a side passage and lunged at her throat.
The distance was too close; there wasn't enough time to draw the bow.
Rocco instinctively stepped back, his heel hitting a rock, causing him to lose his balance and fall backward.
The wolf's claws were already close at hand.
next second.
A figure blocked her way.
It's Wayne.
He pressed his right hand down, and holy light burst forth in his palm, instantly forming a holy light shield that forcefully caught the wolf's claws.
On the other side, Wayne's left hand was already on top.
A thin stream of water shot from Wayne's fingertips, precisely slicing into the wolf's throat as it lunged forward. Blood splattered, and the wolf, halfway through its attack, lost its strength, crashing heavily to Rocco's feet, twitching twice before going still.
