Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong
Chapter 419 An Unexpected Scene
Debon remained silent for a while and did not try to persuade him further.
He knew that people like Wayne usually had their own agendas and were generally difficult to persuade.
"Young man, is this your first time going down into the mine?"
Wayne nodded.
Seeing this, Debon squatted down on the rock and decided to tell Wayne everything he knew: "Since this is your first time going down into the mine, there are some things I need to talk to you about."
"This mine has five levels. The first level is where we came in, a shallow mine tunnel. People mine during the day, but no one dares to stay there at night. The second level is where we are standing now, which is already considered a dangerous area, but at least we can get through it with experience and skills."
He pointed to the darkness of the mine tunnel behind him: "Go further in and you'll reach the end of the tunnel, the entrance to the third level. It gets wider as you go down there. The Divine Servant Team mainly operates on the third level. I don't know exactly what they do in there, but anyone who has dealt with them is sure to have had a bad experience. Remember, stay away from them. Those guys are all mentally unstable."
Wayne asked, "What's wrong with them?"
"I can't quite put my finger on it." Debon shook his head. "I can't say what's wrong with them, but anyway, quite a few people who have come into contact with them have died. In short, staying away from them is definitely the best course of action."
He paused, then continued, "As for the fourth level... I advise you not to go down there. The things there are too ferocious. Some people have tried to go down there before because they were strong enough, and they either died or were maimed. Don't even think about the fifth level; everyone who went down there has disappeared without a trace."
"What's on the fifth floor?"
"Nobody knows for sure," Debon said. "Everyone says it leads to an abyss, but who knows what's waiting at the bottom of that abyss."
After explaining everything he knew, Debon untied the food bag from his waist and threw it at Wayne.
Wayne reached out and caught it.
"Take this with you, and eat sparingly. I don't care what you need to do down there, just come back up as soon as you're done. If you make it back, find the three of us at the underground city plaza, and we'll treat you to drinks."
Wayne slung the food bag over his shoulder.
Thanks.
Sanders didn't say anything, but clasped his hands in a fist salute to Wayne.
Rocco, standing behind, also bowed.
"Young man, be careful."
Wayne nodded to the three of them.
After a brief farewell, Wayne walked to the end of the second-level mine tunnel.
At the end is a precipice.
Wayne glanced down.
Wayne was completely stunned at first glance.
He had initially assumed that what lay below was just an ordinary deep mine tunnel, at most containing the usual rocks, veins, and underground rivers. But what he saw completely overturned that idea.
The scene below the cliff was so grand it was almost unreal.
Below was a vast space, so large that its boundaries were invisible at a glance, with layers of rock expanding downwards, growing deeper and wider. Like the interior of a giant snail shell, layer upon layer, leading to an unknown center.
Dozens of meters down the cliff face, numerous massive rock platforms extend from the rock face. These platforms unfold downwards in layers, some hundreds of meters wide, others only tens of meters square. The platforms are connected by stone steps and suspension bridges, some of which are broken, leaving only two sections of iron chains swaying precariously.
Further down, the lighting was completely different from the ore in the mine. A kind of dark green moss clung to the rock walls, patch after patch, the light not bright, but enough to give the entire space a clear outline.
If your eyesight is good enough, you can even see the view on the platform.
Those enormous platforms contained soil, plants, and even rivers. The plants on the platforms were incredibly diverse in shape, ranging from mushrooms tens of meters tall to spiraling shrubs and vine-like structures that cascaded down from the edges of the platforms, seemingly without end.
Wayne stood on the edge of the cliff for a long time.
This place is not a mine.
Beneath the entire mining area lies a vast, inverted space. The mine tunnels are merely the outermost layer of this space; the true nature lies beneath this outer layer.
Wayne walked along the rock face for a while, found a suitable platform, and jumped down.
The platform was about seven or eight meters above him, and with his current physical condition, landing wouldn't be difficult.
The platform was wetter than he had expected, covered with a layer of dark brown vegetation that felt soft and thick underfoot.
He had just passed through a patch of low-lying mushrooms when he heard the crying.
It was the sound of a child crying.
The sound came from the shadow of a giant mushroom in the distance, muffled and intermittent, sounding like someone who had been frightened.
Wayne stopped and looked through the gap.
A child was squatting on a protruding rock. He looked to be about seven or eight years old, dressed in tattered clothes, hugging his knees and curled up in a ball, his shoulders shaking as he cried pitifully.
Wayne stopped and looked at the crying child, but he didn't move.
In such a place, the fact that a child is alone in a cluster of giant mushrooms is the biggest problem in itself.
The panel did indeed appear.
[Hunter's Disguise & Target Identification]
[Entity Name: Disguised Bird (Abyss Species)]
[Disguise: Young human. Bird beak mimicking crying has been ongoing for approximately one hour.]
[Behavioral Pattern: Ambush predator. Disguised as a distressed child, it lures its prey close. The moment the prey enters its attack range, the bird's head emerges from the ground, revealing the entire giant bird, which then swoops down to finish the kill.]
[Note: It was lucky today, encountering a hunter even more alert than itself.]
After looking at the panel, Wayne understood.
Wayne didn't linger in that area for long, avoiding the camouflage bird's ambush range, and continued deeper into the platform. The bird seemed to realize its prey wasn't taking the bait; its cries gradually subsided and soon fell completely silent.
Suddenly, a sharp bird cry came from behind.
Then came the sound of wings flapping rapidly.
Wayne turned his head, but the bird still swooped down.
The bird's head emerged from the camouflaged soil, its beak open, revealing two rows of barbed teeth, as it swooped forward.
The beast finally couldn't hold back.
Wayne sidestepped, and a water spike materialized, precisely striking the bird's head. The water elemental pierced through the flesh, causing the entire bird's head to explode.
The dead bird, propelled by its descent, slid more than two meters across the rock face before finally coming to a stop.
A third-tier beast, he actually dares to come and fight.
Wayne walked over, crouched down, and used his dagger to cut open the bird's head, extracting a magic core the size of a thumb. The quality was good, much purer than ordinary monsters of the same rank, likely due to the unique characteristics of this area.
He had just put the magic core away when he heard footsteps.
Two figures emerged from behind the nearby fungus thicket; they were two men. The man in the lead glanced from the magic core in Wayne's hand down to the bird carcass at his feet, paused for two seconds, and then smirked.
"Kid, not bad luck. You took down such a big bird all by yourself." The leather-armored man glanced at the bird's carcass. "This magic core isn't low quality. Could you have eaten it all by yourself?"
