Douluo Continent, Reborn: Yuhao and the Silver Dragon Keep Their Appointment
Chapter 37 The Temperature of the Pancake, the Monster's Oath
Huo Yuhao opened his eyes groggily, and the first thing he saw was Na'er's amethyst-like eyes, which were still moist and filled with grievance.
"Brother, are you hungry? Old Master Cai is waiting outside. We should go to Shrek Academy now."
Seeing Na'er speak, Huo Yuhao also stood up. He touched the back of his head, feeling the softness of his hair, a faint milky scent emanating from it. The soft touch just now made him realize that he had just rested his head on Na'er's lap, and he couldn't help but feel a little heartache.
He asked softly, "Na'er, why am I resting my head on your lap? Are you tired?"
Na'er shook her head with a grin: "Brother, I just really want to comb your hair. Are you hungry?"
Then she handed me a sesame seed cake from her bosom. The cake was still warm, steaming slightly, and filled with meat.
Huo Yuhao stared blankly at the sesame seed cake. He took the cake from Na'er's hand, then took a small bite. The crispy crust crumbled between his teeth, and the aroma of caramelization mixed with saltiness and warmth filled his tongue.
Huo Yuhao wolfed down the entire sesame seed cake, his mouth still wet, before rushing towards Na'er. He held her tightly in his arms, greedily absorbing her warmth, tears welling in his eyes, a chill emanating from his body, and sobbed, "Na'er, I shouldn't have been so harsh with you, please forgive me?"
Na'er frantically hugged him, feeling an eerie chill emanating from Huo Yuhao. Seeing his forehead seemingly about to crack, she inwardly cried out: "Oh no, what's going on? Is my brother regaining his memories or something? What if he's not regaining my memories?"
She could only steel herself and press her forehead against his, and an invisible spiritual force entered Huo Yuhao's mind. Soon, Huo Yuhao calmed down, though a portion of the ice in his mind melted.
"Na'er?" Huo Yuhao came to his senses and looked at Na'er's slightly pale face.
Na'er puffed out her cheeks, pinched Huo Yuhao's cheek, and said in a wronged tone, "Brother, you scared me to death. Let's go out, Old Master Cai is getting impatient, and he's going to make things difficult for you again."
Huo Yuhao asked urgently, "Na'er, please don't be angry with me, okay?"
Na'er straightened her clothes and said irritably, "Your Na'er is only afraid of making you angry. When have I ever been angry with you?"
Huo Yuhao sighed, "Na'er, this sesame seed cake... is so special. I think I couldn't control my emotions just now."
He joked, "Do you think I have a past with sesame seed cakes?"
Na'er nodded seriously: "Yes, there are, and more than one section."
Na'er quickly realized she had misspoke. She grabbed Huo Yuhao's hand, her eyes instantly welling up with tears. A faint blush returned to her pale face, and her pink lips pouted slightly, as she feigned a deeply wronged expression: "Brother, don't think about these things. After you finish eating the pancake, hurry and come with me to find Elder Cai. Otherwise, if Elder Cai gets angry, it will affect Na'er. You should at least care about Na'er, even if you don't care about yourself, right?"
Huo Yuhao understood what Na'er meant, so he quickly straightened his clothes, put on his shoes, and pulled Na'er out of the room.
Upon entering the hall, I immediately saw Old Cai talking to Aunt Su, while Su Yuewan sat obediently to the side.
Aunt Su felt a little relieved when she saw Huo Yuhao come out. Old Master Cai had visited Huo Yuhao not long ago and said that the child's soul was too fragile; now that Huo Yuhao had woken up, nothing could be better.
When Elder Cai saw that Huo Yuhao had woken up, he didn't even glance at him, but simply said, "I'm leaving."
Seeing that Elder Cai had already stood up, Na'er said anxiously, "Brother hasn't eaten yet..."
Before she could finish speaking, Huo Yuhao tugged at her hand and gave her a look that said, "I'm fine."
Seeing Elder Cai turn around with impatience and displeasure in his eyes, Huo Yuhao respectfully replied, "Elder Cai, I'm sorry, it was my fault. I'm not hungry, let's set off."
Old Cai's expression softened. He ignored Huo Yuhao and said to Na'er, "Shrek Academy only accepts monsters, and he is indeed a 'monster' to have come to Shrek Academy."
Na'er noticed that Old Cai deliberately dragged out the last two words, "monster." Her tone wasn't sarcastic or deliberately mocking; it was the emotionless, matter-of-fact contempt of someone in a position of power.
Na'er was furious and was about to retort when Huo Yuhao gently squeezed her palm.
Huo Yuhao's calm voice rang out, his tone natural, without any dissatisfaction, and even his eyes remained unchanged: "Thank you, Elder Cai, for allowing this 'monster' to enter Shrek Academy. I will spend the rest of my life proving that I am a true monster."
When Huo Yuhao spoke, even Elder Cai's face trembled. Aunt Su and Su Yuewan's displeasure was written all over their faces. They never imagined that Elder Cai, usually so kind and protective, would make things difficult for a child. If this got out, the reputations of the Sea God Pavilion and Shrek Academy would definitely be affected.
Old Cai looked at Huo Yuhao, whose face still had a childlike innocence, but whose eyes had a depth and determination like the stars and the sea.
Old Cai waved his hand, signaling them to follow, and then walked out the door.
Su Yuewan walked to Huo Yuhao's side, blinked, and whispered, "Elder Cai didn't make things difficult for you, it's just..."
"I know my situation," Huo Yuhao interrupted her, his tone decisive.
He was also feeling bad. The way Elder Cai had looked at him just now was like looking at trash. Perhaps, if he hadn't joined Shrek Academy, Elder Cai would have treated him kindly. But he had joined, and it was Na'er who brought him in. He knew he had to become stronger.
The name Shrek was very familiar to him, but there was resentment in Elder Cai's eyes. He didn't understand why Elder Cai resented him. Did his presence at the academy mean he would tarnish the academy's reputation?
Na'er could clearly sense the complexity of Huo Yuhao's emotions, but he remained outwardly calm. She hid behind Huo Yuhao and tugged at his sleeve from behind: "Brother, look at Na'er. Sister Yue Wan doesn't understand you as well as I do."
Huo Yuhao's expression softened somewhat.
"Xiao Hao, Na'er, Yue Wan, hurry up!" Aunt Su's panting voice rang out from outside.
Huo Yuhao smiled at Na'er and followed Su Yuewan out.
When Aunt Su saw them coming over, she handed the three bracelets in her hand to each of them.
"Aunt Su, what's this?" Na'er looked at the purple bracelet, lost in thought. Huo Yuhao looked at the bracelet, pondering as well; this item seemed to pique his interest.
Su Yuewan said with dissatisfaction, "This is a soul storage device, it's very expensive. Mom specially bought new clothes and some delicious food this afternoon and stuffed them inside. You just need to inject your soul power into it."
Huo Yuhao looked at the ice-blue bracelet in his hand, gently infused it with soul power, and a black coat appeared in his hand. He took his own bracelet, and then the bracelet that Na'er was still playing with, and handed them both to Aunt Su: "Aunt Su, we can't accept this. Elder Cai will prepare things for us, so there's no need to trouble you. It's already very kind of you to have taken me in for these past two days."
Aunt Su said irritably, "If you don't want it, give that purple bracelet back to your sister. She seems to really like it."
Sure enough, when Huo Yuhao turned around, he saw Na'er staring intently at the purple bracelet.
Seeing Huo Yuhao's state, Aunt Su reached out and took his hand, placing the two dazzling bracelets back into his grasp. "Be good, listen to Aunt Su. These bracelets aren't just for you and Na'er. After Yue Wan recovered, she's still the same as before—mischievous and immature. If you don't mind, become her younger brother and try to persuade her."
"Pah, pah, pah! Who said I wanted to be his older sister? And why do you say I'm troublesome? I'm very mature, okay?"
Su Yuewan was furious that her mother was actually criticizing her. However, she smiled mischievously and said, "I still prefer Na'er. Na'er is so cute, it's so comfortable to hold her in my arms."
As soon as she finished speaking, Na'er shrank behind Huo Yuhao, looking at him with disgust and a hint of envy.
"It's time to go. Professor Cai is already waiting for you at the academy. Get in the car, I won't see you off, so you won't feel bad about parting."
Aunt Su spoke calmly and then put Huo Yuhao and the others into a taxi.
Su Yuewan was the last one to be put in. She said happily, "Mom, when I come back, I will definitely become stronger and take revenge on the enemies who hurt Dad and Brother!"
After saying that, the car drove towards the center of Shrek City.
As the car disappeared from Aunt Su's sight, she showed no emotional fluctuation on her face. Only when the door closed did a single, glistening tear slide down her cheek.
She returned to her room and looked at the framed photos on the wall. The family of four had been laughing and joking while eating in the living room, but now, in the large house, only Aunt Su remained.
