You on the other side of time

Chapter 22 Tianluo Renting

"She's alright, her emotions seem relatively stable. I'm just afraid... I'm afraid she's faking it." Si Yang recalled Si Chuying's state just now, which seemed to be a kind of carefree understanding after a brush with death, not something she was putting on a brave face. But as her older brother, he still felt a vague worry in his heart.

"It's good that you're alright. You must keep a close eye on him." Wen Jinxin's tone was commanding, each word coming from the other end of the phone.

"By the way, do you have Song Wanxi's contact information?" Si Yang didn't want to beat around the bush anymore. He didn't have much time during the day, so he had to hurry. He planned to go back and check on the situation there that night.

"Who is Song Wanxi?" Wen Jinxin blurted out, thinking to himself, "My sister is already like this, why am I still asking about other girls?"

"About half a year ago, Yingying and you often mentioned that girl, the one with many of Song Wanxi's rules, like not to worry about things ten kilometers or two hours away. You used to talk about her all the time."

Si Yang was puzzled. In the past timeline, he had heard Song Wanxi's name and Song Wanxi's law from his brother more than once, all because of Si Chuying.

In recent years, Wen Jinxin has made sure to find out everything about the people and things that Si Chuying cares about, let alone people who are her idols.

"I don't know him, I've never even heard of him." This time, Wen Jinxin hesitated for a few seconds before answering. Si Yang knew that he was probably thinking, but the answer was still blank.

This is absurd. In the past timeline, both the younger sister and the mother knew this girl, and they were very close. Even if Wen Jinxin hadn't met her, he must have heard about her many times from them, otherwise he couldn't have repeated the Song Wanxi Law so smoothly.

How come, once we're on this correct timeline, she seems to have appeared out of thin air and then vanished just as suddenly? If Si Yang hadn't actually interacted with this girl, chatted with her, and walked the streets together, he would most likely have thought that his recent mental stress had caused his memory to become confused. But now he's certain that he's not the problem; they must have been too busy and tired to remember her.

"Yang, have you been too stressed lately? You have social anxiety and don't even have a few friends to talk to. If there really was a girl like this, I couldn't possibly have no impression of her at all." After saying that, Wen Jinxin said that he had to go back to work and told him to leave a message for small things and call for urgent matters. He then hung up the phone without hesitation.

Si Yang stood there, bewildered, forcing himself to calm down for a few minutes. His purpose in finding this girl was simply to get the landlord's phone number and see if he could glean any more information about single mothers from him.

If you really can't find it, you can only make a record when you go back in time.

"Could it be that Wen Jinxin is angry? Does he feel that his sister is already like this, yet she still goes to see other girls, so he deliberately doesn't say anything?" Si Yang could only come up with this flimsy excuse.

Time waits for no one, and it was still early before nightfall. Si Yang pushed open the door and went out, intending to ask at the nearby rental shops if they had any information about renting in that area. That way, he might be able to find the landlord directly through an agency.

The real estate agency at the entrance of the residential complex is called Tianluo Renting.

There are hundreds of Tianluo Renting in Jinchuan, almost a standard feature in the community. But Tianluo Renting was originally called Tianluo Find House, and its main business should have been buying and selling new and second-hand houses. He remembers that the store used to have more than a dozen people at its peak, and business was booming. Now only a couple is running it.

Unfortunately, the economy has been sluggish in recent years, and housing prices have been falling uncontrollably. People who wanted to buy a house lost their jobs and were unwilling to do so, while sellers felt that prices had fallen too much and always thought that they would rise again someday, so they calmly waited and saw. Suddenly, the number of people renting and subletting houses increased, and Tianluo Find a House became Tianluo Rent a House.

During the most difficult time, this store even turned into a courier station to save itself, helping with package collection and delivery. For a socially awkward guy like me, if I could handle everything online, I would resolutely avoid going to the mall. It was during that time that Si Yang met the owner a few times, always through the courier station's "Wu Daishou" (吴代收). Wu was probably the owner's surname.

Si Yang looked up and saw that a large space in the lobby of Tianluo Rental had been partitioned off specifically for storing packages, with the GG message clearly visible: "Buy a house with me and get a year of free shipping; rent a house with me and get a month of free shipping."

A middle-aged man wearing a white shirt and an old bow tie was squatting on the ground, labeling a newly arrived package. His trousers were so tight that he had to push his knees forward as hard as he could, afraid of tearing the seams.

"Hello, Mr. Wu..." Si Yang took a deep breath. His "deeds" had long been widely known in the neighborhood, and they probably couldn't be hidden here either.

He no longer cared about being glared at; what he feared was making a trip only to find no clues whatsoever.

"Hey, young man, couldn't find your package?" Boss Wu glanced up at Si Yang, his face expressionless, showing neither familiarity nor disdain.

Si Yang was a little surprised, but then he understood. Most ordinary people are struggling to make ends meet, barely able to support their families. Only those who are bored and have nothing better to do than spread rumors about others.

For these small business owners, as long as it's legal and they can make money, they don't care what labels are on their customers.

"A friend of mine wants to rent a place. I'd like to ask if there are any bungalows available for rent in that area?" Si Yang knew that his move was a bit risky, since the neighborhood was nearly a kilometer away from there. Even if there were properties available for rent, the chances of them being listed here were extremely slim.

"We have plenty of apartments available, which type are you looking for?" Upon hearing that a customer had come in, Boss Wu immediately untied his apron, sat back down in front of his computer, and switched from being a deliveryman to a rental agent in a second.

"A square, single-story house, preferably with a small yard. It doesn't matter if it's a bit out of the way, as long as it's quiet." Si Yang spoke vaguely, only vaguely describing the characteristics of the location where the single mother lived.

Song Wanxi had previously said that the landlord owned more than one property, and that if they could find similar properties, they might be able to trace the landlord's identity.

"That's all you ask for?" Boss Wu looked at Si Yang incredulously. Young people these days are so picky. They wouldn't even look at an old, run-down apartment without any amenities, let alone a basic, unfurnished one. They'd immediately ask if the complex was new or old, and whether it was furnished like a rental or owner-occupied space...

"Well, my friend is a bit strapped for cash and his circumstances are so-so. He just wants somewhere to stay, nothing too fancy," Si Yang forced a smile.
