Chapter 42: The Hero Saves the Beauty - A Must-Try Part 1
"Good morning, Brother Yanlin." Chen Chao waved and greeted Wang Yanlin with a smile, then asked with some confusion, "Why are you here so early?", since Wang Yanlin usually took at least half an hour to arrive.
"Don't even mention it. Geng Xin dragged me out of bed this morning, saying we had to train harder so we wouldn't have to do too many takes for the fight scenes after filming starts." Wang Yanlin shrugged helplessly. "But he's still in bed, saying he wants to sleep for another ten minutes, but almost half an hour has passed now."
With a somewhat helpless smile and a shake of his head, Chen Chao didn't say much. After all, Lin Gengxin's procrastination was well-known on set. Every time he said he would sleep for another ten minutes, it would take at least an hour before he would be seen.
Although he was occasionally late, Lin Gengxin did not fall behind in his training. If he was late that day, he would train for twice as long as he was late to make up for the missed time.
After chatting for a few more minutes, seeing that Lin Gengxin still hadn't appeared, the two stopped waiting and began warming up in preparation for the upcoming equestrian training session.
The only training program left for Chen Chao and his group of actors is equestrian training; the martial arts training course ended two days ago.
After taking a stroll with Grape and cultivating a bond, Chen Chao was about to mount his horse when he caught a glimpse of a figure frantically pulling on the reins on the track not far away.
That was Li Lin. Today she was dressed in a smart equestrian outfit, her long hair tied in a high ponytail, her brows furrowed, and the chestnut horse beneath her was pawing restlessly, occasionally letting out an anxious neigh.
"Sister Qin, what's wrong?" Chen Chao led the grapes over quickly, her voice very soft, afraid of startling the horse that was a little agitated.
Turning around at the sound, Li Qin saw Chen Chao and felt as if she had seen a savior. Her voice trembled as she said, "I don't know what happened. It was particularly unstable today. As soon as I got on, it tried to throw me off."
Just as she finished speaking, the chestnut horse suddenly reared up and let out a sharp neigh. It turned out that a white plastic bag had suddenly flown from not far away, spinning in the wind and flying towards the chestnut horse.
Horses are extremely timid animals, and this sudden white object instantly shattered their reason. They frantically shook their bodies and charged forward on all fours.
Li Lin, who was talking to Chen Chao who was walking over, only had time to grip the reins tightly. His body was jostled about, and his face turned deathly pale.
"Hold the reins tight! Press your body against the horse's back!" After shouting to Li Lin, Chen Chao quickly mounted the horse, squeezed his legs hard against the horse's belly, and Grape seemed to sense its master's urgency, and rushed out like an arrow.
The wind whistled past his ears. Chen Chao's eyes were fixed on the chestnut horse's reins, which Li Lin was gripping tightly. After controlling Grape to keep a parallel distance from the startled horse, he suddenly reached out and grabbed the chestnut horse's reins.
"Don't panic! Follow my rhythm and pull the reins!" Chen Chao's calm and powerful voice carried a reassuring quality, causing Li Qin to subconsciously do as he was told, pulling the reins back forcefully with both hands.
While controlling his own horse, Chen Chao and Li Lin worked together to pull on the reins of the chestnut horse, guiding it towards the open grassland.
After running for a while, the chestnut horse's emotions finally stabilized. Under Chen Chao's control, it gradually slowed down and finally stopped successfully on the grass.
Only then did Li Lin finally breathe a sigh of relief, collapsing onto the horse's back as if all his strength had been drained, his clothes soaked with cold sweat.
After a moment of calm, she looked up at Chen Chao, her face still showing signs of shock, and said in a slightly hoarse voice, "Thank you, Chen Chao. If it weren't for you, I would have been in real danger."
"It's alright." Chen Chao quickly dismounted and walked to the chestnut horse. He gently patted its neck to comfort it before reaching out to support Li Qin's arm. "Get down slowly."
With Chen Chao's help, Li Qin slowly dismounted from her horse, but as soon as her feet touched the ground, she stumbled because her legs were weak. Fortunately, Chen Chao caught her waist in time, preventing her from falling.
A slightly warm touch came through the thin riding clothes. As if remembering something, Li Qin's cheeks instantly flushed red. She quickly stood up straight and looked away somewhat embarrassedly: "I'm fine, thank you."
"Of course." Chen Chao withdrew his hand and returned a gentle smile. "This horse is a bit restless. You should ask the staff to get you a more docile one."
"Okay, I understand." Nodding, Li Qin felt a strange warmth welling up in her heart as she watched Chen Chao carefully soothe the horse's face.
The way Chen Chao rode over on horseback to rescue me just now really resembled the peerless hero described in those books.
"Holy crap! What just happened? I saw you two riding horses at full speed from afar." Just then, Wang Yanlin came running over, panting, followed by Lin Gengxin, who looked sleepy.
Upon seeing the two, Li Qin quickly composed himself and briefly explained the situation. After listening, Wang Yanlin patted his chest in relief, saying, "Luckily, Chen Chao reacted quickly, otherwise it could have been a disaster."
Lin Gengxin, who had been energized by Li Lin's story, couldn't help but nod, his gaze towards Chen Chao filled with admiration: "Wow, Chao, the knight is already this good, but what you did just now was really cool."
Chen Chao smiled and was about to say something modest when he suddenly seemed to remember something, raised an eyebrow and looked at Lin Gengxin, "Did the sun rise in the west today? Brother Gengxin, you actually arrived at the training ground before eight o'clock."
As soon as Chen Chao said this, Wang Yanlin immediately chimed in, "Yeah, I thought you'd sleep until at least nine! Why the sudden change of heart today?"
Faced with his two mischievous friends' teasing, Lin Gengxin couldn't help but blush and scratch his head awkwardly: "Well... I slept a little better last night and woke up early, so I just came to train early. Besides, I'm the male lead, so of course I have to set an example."
"Come on, you're kidding me." Wang Yanlin exposed him mercilessly, "I heard your manager call you to wake you up."
"Wang Yanlin! Will you die if you don't expose me?!" Lin Gengxin, enraged, reached out to hit Wang Yanlin's shoulder, and the two immediately started arguing.
Seeing the two bickering and joking around, Chen Chao and Li Lin smiled at each other, and the tension from the previous close call dissipated.
