Ice and Fire: Conquering the World Starting from the Wall
Chapter 13 The Maid Lyanna
Kuna opened her mouth, then hesitated before saying:
"Mans spent years negotiating with tribal chiefs from all over the world, winning over the first village with sweet words, another with songs, and a third with swords and spears."
"He made the Hamma with the Dog Head make peace with the Skeleton King, the Hardfoot people negotiate with the Nightwalkers, and the Walrus People of the Frozen Coast reconcile with the Cannibal Tribe of the Great Glacier. He forged a hundred different daggers into a giant spear."
"Before this, the hatred among the free people was equally deep-seated. What Mans could do, I believe you can do too. When you spoke with Mans yesterday, you seemed more like a king."
I'm like the king of hammers!
Lynn muttered to himself, to put it bluntly, he was just feeling confident and had a good attitude. He was sure that Mans didn't want to fight amongst themselves, plus he had accumulated some experience in arguing with people online over the years.
"He could never win the approval of the Northerners, but you can, you have dragons!"
Kuna concluded firmly at the end.
Silence fell inside the tent.
Lynn sorted out his thoughts and realized that according to Kuna's plan, he first needed to win the full support of the Thane people and win over the relatively less barbaric part of the free people as much as possible.
Then, before Mans could take the Wall, he seized control of key passes, forcing the remaining free people to either kneel or wait to die.
Then, under some pretext, they raised a banner demanding the lords of the North submit and accept the wildlings, who had been enemies for thousands of years, as their neighbors.
Finally, they taught the savages to give up plundering, learn to cultivate the land and support themselves, and so everyone returned to their homes, and everyone had a bright future.
It sounds like a story from a fairy tale.
Lynn had to admit that he was actually somewhat tempted by Kuna's words. Although he had no interest in becoming a king or lord in this era, no one could resist the allure of making a name for themselves.
However, he quickly stroked his chin and gave a wry smile.
Even if he were willing to take the risk of writing this fairy tale with Kuna, everything would have to be predicated on Casa becoming the new Magna.
If the other two were Magna, they would still respect Lynn, but they would never obey him blindly.
After her speech, Kuna seemed to have calmed down from the emotions brought on by her grand vision.
The fact that she was able to sort out her thoughts and make a decisive offer in just one night shows that she is very smart, which means she must have seen the huge risks and uncertainties involved.
The root of the problem is that Lynn had no reason to risk his life for an unrealistic throne.
"I'll consider it."
Lynn said after careful consideration:
"We'll talk about this after the Magna ceremony is over."
"Yes, sir."
Kuna bowed in a subservient manner, then stepped aside, gesturing for the people behind her to come forward.
"My lord, my daughter Lyanna. She is fifteen years old and has inherited the green eyes of the Umber family and the dark gold hair of my wild husband."
Kuna removed Lyanna's cloak as if displaying a product and then spun her around.
Lynn had grown accustomed to the filthy savages he had seen these past few days, and seeing Lyanna made the world seem a little brighter.
Her pretty face had clearly been carefully groomed, and she still carried a hint of fear. Her hair had been styled in an intricate and elaborate way, adding to her charm.
No wonder she wore a cloak when she came.
Even when she doesn't dress up or deliberately makes herself look ugly, she can still attract countless covetous eyes. If she were to appear in public looking like this, I believe even Magna's orders would not be able to stop the men who want to steal her.
Kuna was pleased with Lynn's reaction, so she said:
"I protected her well, taught her manners and literacy, hoping that one day she could return to live in the family castle instead of suffering outside the Great Wall like I did."
"A few years ago, I convinced my husband to surrender to the Night's Watch and then notified my father to send someone to pick me up. There had been instances before where kidnapped women from the North had successfully returned home. I thought to myself, even if my father wouldn't acknowledge me, it would be good as long as I could bring Lyanna back."
"But an illness took Frivive's life, and I was unable to cross the entire Northland alone with my daughter. Fortunately, before he died, he found Magna and asked for a command..."
As Lynn listened to Kuna's detailed account, he subconsciously echoed her sentiments:
"I heard that Magna has issued an order forbidding men from stealing from her."
"Yes, sir, I assure you that Lyanna is still a virgin."
Lyanna's face turned visibly red, which alone showed that she was different from the wildlings.
Kuna made no attempt to hide her thoughts, stating frankly:
"Even if we return to Last Hearth, Lyanna's birth will lead to her being unrecognized, and her status may be even lower than that of a bastard. Moreover, once the Wall is breached, the castle will no longer be safe."
"My lord, I dare not hope for anything, I only ask that Lyanna serve by your side. If you would grant her a child, even a bastard child, it would provide her with security in the future, which is better than having her stolen from her bed by some unknown savage one night."
Kuna and her husband were in a free-love relationship, but her past experiences still made her deeply resentful of savages, even though the relatively civilized Theon people still retained many bad habits.
In particular, most cases of "stealing" marriages are essentially rape, with only a very small number being consensual. However, these have become the norm over time, to the point that everyone has taken them for granted.
Lynn had already guessed her purpose. If he were in the past, he would have said that the more girls he offered without asking for any official status, the better.
But given the harsh environment he was in, Lynn couldn't be happy. His peaceful life over the past twenty years had given him too much empathy.
He stood up, walked up to Lyanna, and looked down into her eyes.
Tell me, Lyanna.
Lynn asked in an unquestionable tone:
"Does your mother's request align with your own wishes? I want to hear the truth."
A hint of confusion flashed in Lyanna's beautiful emerald eyes, and it took her a while to realize what Lynn was asking her.
Giving a fifteen-year-old girl the power to choose her own life may sound a bit harsh, but she is a child who grew up among the wild people of the northern frontier. No matter how much protection her parents gave her, she is still much more mature than her peers who grew up in warmer regions.
After receiving an affirmative answer, Lynn said to Kuna, who breathed a huge sigh of relief:
"I promise you that I will provide Lyanna with shelter to the best of my ability, and she is free to leave at any time."
"That's enough for today! Make sure our conversation doesn't get out. By the way, do you know how to clean these fur coats? They smell terrible."
"Use the sap of the Moonheart Vine, sir. There's plenty in the crevices of the cliff, but the free people always find it too troublesome."
As Kuna spoke, she tidied up all the clothes and held them in her arms. Lynn noticed that she had changed her term for the savage back to "free people".
"Leave it to me. I'll resew it for you after it's cleaned. Lyanna, you stay here to take the master's measurements. I'll bring your things over later."
With a major concern resolved, Kuna's steps became much lighter. She darted out of the tent, leaving Lynn and Lyanna looking at each other in bewilderment.
After a long while, Lyanna finally pulled a thin rope from her belt and stammered:
"Sir... let me take your measurements."
