Ice and Fire: Conquering the World Starting from the Wall
Chapter 30 "The Severed Hand" Colin
The "Guardians' Hall" is a temporary building recently erected by the Free People. It is made of logs, clay, moss, and animal fur, and is about the size of an indoor basketball court, making it very spacious.
This way, the leaders of the free people wouldn't have to crowd into Mans' tent to discuss matters.
The doors to the hall were opened very high, allowing even giants to stoop to enter and attend meetings.
Logically, this is to be expected, since the giants put in a lot of effort in building this house, but Lynn still hoped they could take a bath, as the smell was just too strong.
Quinn left after delivering the message.
At this moment, Qi Xue leaped into the sky, throwing the wooden stake in his claws far away. Lynn then smoothly drew a raven-feathered arrow from the quiver at his back waist, and immediately drew his bow and shot.
There's no need for any eye-closed or mind-closed techniques; all the skills and experience are imprinted in the mind. The black feathered arrow shot like a meteor towards the wooden stake spinning in mid-air, and then hit the center of the cross-section.
After Lynn put away his bow, Bloodthirst seemed to still be enjoying himself. Ever since it took over Lyanna's job of throwing the target, it had quickly fallen in love with the game.
But it's destined not to have its fill of fun today.
The captured rangers will be sent to the Guardian's Hall. Lynn is unsure if the ones he wants are among them, since it's impossible for just two people to dare venture deep into Frostfang, so he must go and see for himself.
The journey wasn't long, so Lynn chose to walk.
He walked ahead, carrying his white oak longbow, with Lyanna following closely behind, clutching his sword, while Bloodshed sometimes crawled beside him using its hind legs and dragon wing joints, and sometimes flew up and hovered above their heads.
Bonfires were everywhere along the way, adorning carts, wheelbarrows, and sleds.
The savages hastily erected countless tents using animal hides and sheepskins, while some simply built nests on large rocks or slept under vehicles.
He saw a group of hard-footed people sharpening the tips of long wooden spears by the fire, some even testing their spears with spear throwers; two boys from the frozen coast, who had secretly put on adult leather armor, were hitting each other with sticks, jumping over the campfire to chase each other, shouting incessantly; a dozen or so spearwomen sat in a circle, applying feathers to their bows and arrows with scorched tree sap.
Everyone bows or nods when they see Lynn as a sign of respect.
Although Mans was trying his best to create a sense of crisis, the scene before him was not all war.
Along the way, he saw girls dancing together, heard babies crying, and a little boy wrapped in fur ran past him, panting from playing.
Sheep and goats roam freely, cattle scavenge for remaining grass stalks under the snow on the riverbank, the aroma of stew wafts from the campfire, and a whole pig is skewered and smoked on a wooden fork.
Several toddlers, barely able to walk and whose genders were indistinguishable, emerged from under the robes of the Thane mothers and jumped and shouted around Lyanna.
"Leanna, the Star Child! Leanna, the Star Child!"
So the girl smiled and took out a few pieces of candied dried fruit to give to them, her beautiful big eyes curving into crescents.
This is something Lynn experiences almost every day.
It was these tenacious lives, like wild grass, that gradually strengthened Lynn's resolve to keep them alive.
Upon arriving outside the Guardian's Hall, Lynn could hear the barking of the dogs from a great distance.
Several raiders shouted loudly in an attempt to quiet the pack of dogs, but to no avail.
Only upon closer inspection did Lynn discover the culprit behind all this—a white direwolf almost twice the size of an ordinary wolf.
The white wolf confronted the pack of dogs alone, remaining silent but not losing ground in terms of imposing presence.
The pack of dogs was too noisy and refused to obey commands, so Blood howled and swept over them before landing above the gate of the Guardian's Hall.
It casually stretched out its scarlet body, with a slender neck, a long pointed tail, and wings that were no more than six or seven feet wide when spread out.
But the pack of dogs fell silent instantly, and the direwolves tucked their tails between their legs, staring at the strange creature they had never seen before with suspicion and uncertainty.
The raiders then noticed Lynn and bowed to him in greeting.
They belong to the Bone King and the Weeping Ones, and these two raider leaders, who had once spoken arrogantly before Lynn, now bowed their heads to him.
Two men wearing black wool cloaks were in the middle of them.
One of them stood empty-handed, looking to be under twenty years old. He was lean, with a long face, brown hair, and gray eyes. He was the bastard son of the Duke of the North that Lynn had seen through Oriel's eagle eyes.
Upon seeing the dragon, the shock and fear in his eyes were almost overflowing.
The other one was lying on a sled. It was clear that he was tall with long limbs, but he was covered in blood and was in a half-dead state.
Even though he was covered in injuries, his hands and feet were still tightly bound, which shows how dangerous he was.
His face was cleanly groomed, his long, frosty hair was tied into a large braid that hung down on the sled, and the black cloak he wore had faded to gray over time.
This is "One-Handed" Colin, the Ranger who killed "Raven Hunter." Mance and Lynn told him about him.
Lynn saw that his right hand only had his thumb and forefinger—the rest of his fingers had been lost when he parried a savage's axe that had struck his head.
It is said that after blocking that blow, he used his mutilated fist to strike the axe-wielding enemy, spraying blood into the savage's eyes, causing him to be completely blinded. In the end, he was killed by Collinger.
From that day on, the savages beyond the Great Wall regarded him as their most formidable adversary, and he certainly lived up to that reputation.
After losing half of his right hand, Colin persevered and mastered left-handed swordsmanship, making it even more powerful than before.
"Bring them in!"
As Lynn spoke, he walked into the Guardian's Hall. Bloodshed, like a ghost, drifted down the wind and floated through the door, landing almost silently.
A red-haired female raider shoved Jon Snow, and the young Night's Watchman, recovering from the shock of seeing a dragon, numbly lifted his foot and walked towards the massive door.
His direwolf hesitated for a moment, but eventually followed with light steps. This time, the guard was much tougher than the one who had guarded the entrance to the Mans tent before.
"Wild animals are not allowed in!"
He raised his bronze spear and glared menacingly at the Night's Watchman, as if he wanted to devour him.
"Bai Ling, stop!"
Jon commanded, and the direwolf obediently sat down.
"Spear, keep an eye on this white-haired beast."
The Bone King gave an instruction to his subordinates, and then walked through the gate with the two of them.
The other raiders carefully lifted Colin's sled and carried him into the hall as if he were a precious porcelain vase, seemingly worried that if he died, they wouldn't receive double the military reward.
In their view, Colin held a high position among the Night's Watch, and taking him down, while not quite a feat of "slaying a general," wouldn't be too far off.
"Just Lynn" would certainly not treat them unfairly.
