Chapter 5 Connecting Channels Between Different Worlds
"What happened?" Kasumigaoka Utaha noticed the change in Raten's expression.
"A deep rift has appeared, located two kilometers to the east." Luo Tian closed the panel.
Eriri stood up from her chair: "What is an Abyss Rift?"
"It's a connecting passage between two different worlds." Luo Tian walked to the wall, took two silver bracelets from the hook, and handed them to Kasumigaoka Utaha and Eriri. "Put these on."
The bracelet is silver, and the pendant is engraved with the Starry Sky Society logo; it is small and exquisite.
"What is this?" Eriri looked at it from all angles.
"It functions as a pass, an internal communicator, and an emergency escape device." Luo Tian put one on himself as well. "In case of danger, it can consume points to teleport back to another dimension. Each teleport costs 5 points."
"That's way too expensive."
"Life is far more precious than points."
Kasumigaoka Utaha put on the bracelet, the pendant against her skin, giving her a slightly cool touch.
"Tell me about member benefits," she reminded Luo Tian.
"Yes, there are also benefits." Luo Tian cleared his throat. "As initial members of the Starry Sky Society, you enjoy these benefits: one free ability awakening, which is already in effect."
A basic subsidy of 50 points per month is added to your personal points.
A personalized health check-up every six months, with full reimbursement of medical expenses.
Props and equipment can be shared within the club.
"Is that all?" Eriri asked, somewhat disappointed.
"What else do you want?"
"Pay wages?"
Luo Tian thought for a moment: "There will be more later. As the organization expands, points can be exchanged for cash. Currently, 1 point can be exchanged for about 100 yen."
Eriri calculated that she could earn 300 points a month, which was 30,000 yen, and immediately nodded: "Not bad, enough to buy a few doujinshi."
"Buy the notebook you drew yourself?" Kasumigaoka Utaha added.
"Senior!"
Luo Tian ignored their bickering and turned to operate on the system panel: [Interdimensional Connection to Study: Consumes 100 points] [Connecting... Connection Complete]
A door suddenly appeared out of nowhere on the wall at the back of the classroom.
Luo Tian walked over and opened the door. Inside was a small study with several books on mythology and mysticism on the bookshelves.
"This will be our permanent base from now on," he said. "Tomorrow I'll go see Mr. Takagi to complete the formalities and officially register the Starry Sky Club."
"Then what should I do?" Eriri asked, raising her hand.
"You're in charge of designing the club's recruitment posters."
"Why me?!"
"Because you are Milewell."
Eriri opened her mouth, but couldn't utter a single word in rebuttal.
---
The next day at noon, Eriri tested her abilities alone in the alternate dimension.
She stood in front of the mirror, first transforming into Kasumigaoka Utaha, then into a strange boy, and finally reverting to her original appearance.
"This is too simple," she muttered to herself. "Can't it be made more complicated?"
She took a deep breath, focused her mind, and the figure in the mirror changed again: the golden twin tails turned into long black hair, her features became more mature, and she grew much taller, transforming into her mother, Sayuri Sawamura.
Eriri looked at her "mother" in the mirror, her lips twitching involuntarily: "This is so realistic..."
She reached out and touched her cheek; the touch was real skin, without the slightest trace of pretense.
"That's amazing."
"What are you doing here?"
Suddenly, Kasumigaoka Utaha's voice came from behind Eriri, who was startled. Her ability instantly stopped working, and she reverted to her original form.
She turned around and saw Kasumigaoka Utaha leaning against the door frame, looking at her expressionlessly.
"Senior! Couldn't you at least knock before you come in?!"
"This is a public space, and I called you several times just now, but you didn't hear me at all."
Eriri was about to explain when she suddenly remembered something, and her face instantly turned deathly pale: "Senpai, is your ability mind-reading again?"
Eriri's head felt like it had been hit by a heavy hammer, and her mind went completely blank for a moment.
She suddenly remembered how Luo Tian had discovered her true identity on the rooftop the day before. Could it be that Shi Yu had used her special ability to see through her thoughts and then told Luo Tian?
"It was you who did this!" Eriri pointed at Kasumigaoka Utaha, her voice filled with anger. "You must have used your mind-reading ability to tell Luo Tian my secrets!"
"I didn't do that," Shiyu replied calmly.
"I don't believe it! You just read my mind and saw my secret!" Eriri retorted excitedly.
"I already said it wasn't me," Shi Yu said calmly.
"You're lying!"
Eriri's cheeks turned red with anger, and tears welled up in her eyes, threatening to fall.
She suddenly turned around and rushed out, but after only two steps she tripped over something and her body fell forward uncontrollably.
Shi Yu reacted quickly, grabbing the back of her collar and pulling her back.
"Calm down first." Shi Yu's voice was flat. "Luo Tian found out your identity himself. It has nothing to do with me."
"I don't believe a word you say!" Eriri shouted, her neck stiff.
"Then you can use your own abilities to escape." Shiyu released her grip. "Escape from school by becoming someone else, and never come back."
Eriri stood frozen in place, her chest heaving with excitement, and a silence fell over the surrounding area for several seconds.
"You'd better not lie to me." Eriri bit her lower lip, her voice trembling with tears. "Otherwise, I really will just leave."
Shi Yu didn't say anything more, but simply raised her hand and gently touched the top of her head.
At this moment, Eriri finally couldn't hold back her tears and they fell.
---
When Luo Tian returned to his residence from the bookstore, Eriri had already stopped crying.
She was curled up on the sofa in the alternate dimension, her eyes swollen like walnuts, clutching a can of cola tightly in her hand, looking just like a wronged and agitated kitten.
"What's wrong?" Luo Tian asked, looking at Shi Yu standing by the wall.
"She mistakenly thought I used my mind-reading ability to reveal her identity as a fan artist." Shiyu leaned against the wall, her tone indifferent. "I explained it to her, but she wouldn't believe me."
"This matter indeed has nothing to do with Shiyu." Luo Tian walked up to Eriri. "I deduced your identity step by step by myself."
"Deduction?" Eriri looked up at him with her reddened eyes.
"Your painting style, brushstrokes, and even your paper preferences are all traceable within the art circle," Luo Tian explained. "I compared it with your usual sketches, and it matched up immediately."
Eriri opened her mouth, and after a long pause, managed to squeeze out a sentence: "You...you actually read those kinds of doujinshi too?"
"That's not the point right now." Luo Tian coughed lightly to cover his embarrassment. "The point is, Shi Yu didn't betray you."
