Chapter 12 Survival of the Fittest
……
Siye did not respond.
He silently stood up, took the half-full glass of cola, walked to the huge floor-to-ceiling window, and looked down at the bustling yet incredibly fragile city of Earth below.
The neon lights cast flickering shadows on his pale, perfect profile.
"If you've come here tonight to pry into my past... then please allow me to refuse," Si Ye said calmly.
"I don't want to recall those things anymore. After all, for me, most of the past that has left a deep mark over the long years are not exactly pleasant memories."
Angel Yan was not annoyed by the direct rejection. She gracefully stood up, walked to Si Ye's side, and stood beside him, gazing at the night view outside the window together.
"If you don't want to talk about it, then don't. I'm not the kind of person who likes to pry into other people's scars." Yan tilted her head slightly, her long golden hair flowing over her shoulders. "But, now that your civilization has been destroyed, what are your specific plans for the future?"
"Not at the moment," Si Ye said calmly.
"Since you don't have one, then I do have a suggestion," Yan said with a smile. "Would you be interested in visiting our Angel Nebula?"
"While our angelic civilization isn't as extreme as yours, visitors, in absolutely rejecting violence for fifty thousand years, at least under the rule of our Angelic King, Holy Keisha, the Angel Nebula has maintained its purity and beauty for tens of thousands of years. There is no oppression there, only justice and order."
"I think you would be very interested in that kind of peaceful and stable civilized atmosphere."
Upon hearing this, Si Ye gently shook his head, refusing without hesitation this honor that countless civilizations in the known universe would covet.
"It's not convenient for me right now. Maybe I'll go and see the Angel Nebula you mentioned if I have the chance in the future."
"inconvenient?"
Angel Yan raised an eyebrow, turned to the side, and looked at Si Ye with a half-smile: "What, is it because you're seriously injured that you're worried the proud angel might harm you?"
Facing Si Ye's slightly turned gaze, Yan calmly shrugged: "Don't look at me like that. The intense, violent, and extremely unstable energy fluctuations you experienced when you descended were enough for those half-baked guys from the Super God Academy to tell you that something was wrong with you through Deno III, so naturally I could tell too."
Si Ye didn't hide anything and nodded very frankly: "There are reasons for this precaution."
"But more than that, I just don't want to travel around for the time being."
Si Ye sighed softly, "For an 'old man' who has just experienced the explosion of his home planet and the destruction of his civilization, a backward civilization like Earth, which hasn't even fully crossed the pre-nuclear era, can actually provide me with a rare sense of security."
Si Ye turned his head, his dark red eyes calmly gazing at the fully armed left-wing guard in front of him.
"And that Angel Nebula you mentioned is filled with super soldiers like you..."
"That sounds dangerous."
"Angels may be proud and powerful, but they are not dangerous."
Angel Yan looked directly into Si Ye's eyes and said earnestly, "Only evil people think angels are dangerous. For any life that does not crave violence and plunder, angels are absolutely safe and absolutely wonderful."
Si Ye looked at the flashing neon lights outside the window and shook his head noncommittally: "But on this planet, violence and plunder are ingrained in the very genes of life."
"In my opinion, these Earthlings are not much different from that monkey in the mecha last night."
"In the eyes of Earthlings, that monkey is a cruel alien invader. But once Earthlings master the monkeys' power and venture into interstellar space, they will only go even further. After all, those monkeys aren't very intelligent, but Earthlings certainly aren't."
Angel Yan did not deny it upon hearing this.
Because she possessed the Eye of Insight, she had seen through the history of the Earth. She knew that what Siye said was true.
"Violence and plunder are indeed in the fundamental genes of Earthlings. It is this that has enabled humans to rise from tiny mammals to the top of the food chain on this planet." Yan took over Si Ye's topic frankly. "Violence is the cornerstone of their survival, and plunder is the driving force behind their progress. These are objective facts."
"But these objectively existing things are not immutable."
Yan walked to the glass and looked down at the humans bustling about like ants. "Just as those primitive people who ate raw meat and drank blood tens of thousands of years ago certainly didn't have the moral concepts that Earthlings have established today, so it's not impossible that Earthlings, who are full of violence and plunder in their bones today, might transform tens of thousands of years from now and become people who cherish peace and beauty."
"Angels, too, have come from an era of barbarity and slaughter."
Yan turned her head, her long golden hair gleaming under the lights. "We believe that, guided by justice and order, life ultimately aspires to a better future."
Si Ye listened quietly, and this time, he did not utter a word in rebuttal.
He acknowledged that Angel Yan's logic was entirely correct in sociological deduction, but it currently lacked sufficient actual data to support it.
Because the advancement of civilization inevitably follows the most basic elimination rule of "survival of the fittest".
In the most brutal primitive societies, individuals with greater strength and violence were able to acquire more resources, thus enabling them to reproduce.
After the concepts of "collective" and "tribe" were born, individuals with a sense of collective cooperation were more likely to survive, while those who still only knew how to plunder everything with pure violence would be regarded as a threat by the collective and thus be eliminated and eliminated by the collective's power.
As long as civilization continues to move forward, it is an endless process of selection.
Individuals who adapt to the new rules survive, while those who do not are ruthlessly eliminated.
If the underlying rules of Earth's future civilization truly tend towards "goodness" and "peace" as the angels hoped, then the individuals who survive after tens of thousands of years of selection will naturally be good.
This is a very rigorous scientific theory of evolution.
"This beautiful theory of evolution is indeed logically flawless." Si Ye turned his gaze away from the bustling city outside the window, his tone still calm as still water. "But there is one most crucial premise—that is, Earth, or rather, Earthlings, can truly and willingly accept this beauty."
"Not all life enjoys the beauty of being bound by rules. Like those monkeys that slaughtered indiscriminately on Airport Road last night, killing, conquering, and destroying are the norm for them."
"I admit that there are always some irredeemable scum in the universe." Yan looked at Si Ye, slightly raising her chin. "But I firmly believe that most Earthlings yearn for a better future. Compared to the order of light, those demons who choose to fall are ultimately only a tiny minority."
"Are demons a minority?"
Upon hearing this, Si Ye shook his head slightly. "You're wrong, angel. Demons have never been a minority. On the contrary, demons, or rather, those 'neutral people' who can side with demons at any time, constitute the vast majority of this universe."
"Maintaining beauty and establishing order requires a huge price and tireless effort. It's a kind of restraint, like rowing against the current. But falling into depravity is easy. All it takes is indulging your instincts, abandoning your principles, and giving in to your desires."
Siye turned around and looked directly at the arrogant left-wing guard. "The vast majority of ordinary beings simply do not have the same awareness as you angels to restrain your instincts for your faith. They are just blind followers who drift with the tide."
"Whoever has the hardest fist and the loudest voice will be listened to. When the power of justice can crush everything, they will naturally sing praises and behave themselves; but once evil and depravity show a more oppressive absolute force, or even just a little bit of indulgence, they can turn around and cheer for the devil without any psychological burden."
"So, if you angels truly wish to forever uphold the ideal of beauty that you have defined in this cruel universe..."
"Then you had better pray that you can remain strong forever. Because once you fall from your pedestal, the 'goodness' you once protected, which drifts with the tide, will instantly transform into demons and completely engulf you."
