Chapter 36 Lucia and Rachel's Conversation
The next morning, the morning light broke through the thin clouds covering the spire, turning the bluestone floor of the Academy into a warm gold.
Mien had just finished reading the last part of a thick book on ancient history and civilization, and stood by the window in high spirits, looking down at the view of the entire Academy.
From afar, they saw August leading a small figure toward them.
At the same time, the communication ring on her wrist glowed: Princess Rachel has arrived.
"They're always on time."
Soon, there was a knock on the door, and August led Lucia in.
The girl's eyes were still slightly swollen from crying.
"Mr. Mien," Lucia said weakly, then looked directly at Mien.
"Okay, come with me."
Without saying anything more, Mien led Luya outside.
Mien remained silent the whole way, as if nothing had happened, and did not mention yesterday's events at all.
She only gave one piece of advice: "Luya, don't be afraid when you see Princess Rachel. She may look scary, but she's not scary at all."
The three stood at the very front of the administrative tower, waiting with the crowd to welcome Princess Rachel.
A quiet breeze stirred the hems of people's clothes; the administrative district was large and spacious.
Lucia glanced at Mien, whose face was expressionless, revealing no thoughts or feelings.
My heart felt even emptier, I was disheartened, and all that remained was confusion, which brought with it fear and cowardice.
She can't even do anything right herself, how is she supposed to face the princess of the empire?
She longed to escape this place and return to Iron Can Street immediately. She wanted to cry, but her remaining strength kept her upright in this big scene. She couldn't let Mien down.
After waiting for an unknown amount of time, a series of orderly footsteps suddenly came from ahead.
The sound grew louder and louder, creating a powerful sense of oppression.
Lucia's pupils dilated.
My heart started beating too.
The tall and beautiful Princess Rachel visited the Academy again and arrived at the Administration Tower.
Lucia only glanced at one thing: Rachel's proud and coldly beautiful face. When she realized that Rachel wasn't looking at Mien but was staring intently at her, she immediately looked away and held her breath.
"Chief Mien," Rachel greeted with a smile.
"Your Highness Rachel."
She looked down at the top of Lucia's head: "She's Lucia, isn't she?"
Lucia stiffened upon hearing her name.
"Yes." Mien stepped aside. "Let's go inside and talk."
The guards and the expressionless assassin, Ivia, were ushered in a large hall, and the three of them headed up to the second floor.
Rachel kept looking at Lucia the whole way.
Seeing her timid appearance, I felt a little relieved and roughly understood what kind of little girl she was.
An ordinary little girl who rose from the slums through her talent sees the view of the empire's upper echelons for the first time and is filled with fear of everything there.
Rachel has dealt with too many political enemies along the way; such a young girl is too easy to control.
"Luya." She called out with a smile, exuding an air of authority.
Lucia was startled and quickly bowed, saying, "Your Highness."
"Hmm." Rachel smiled. "You're very lucky. Chief Mien, as your teacher, has naturally bestowed upon you the most profound wisdom in the world."
"Um..." Lucia didn't know how to reply, "Thank you, Your Highness."
Rachel looked away and smiled at Mien, saying:
"She seems to be a very qualified saintess. Only a girl with a pure heart can represent the light of this holy empire. Chief Mien, you have done a good job."
Mien simply smiled in response.
The three of them quickly arrived at a smaller meeting room and stopped at the door.
Mien said, "Your Highness Rachel, you and Lucia can talk here."
Rachel smiled and said, "Thank you for your hard work."
Mien then looked at Lucia, who was trembling beside him, and put his hand on her shoulder.
Lucia was startled and looked up to see Mien's gentle yet firm gaze.
"Luya, just answer Her Highness's question. Do you remember what I told you?"
Lucia answered weakly, "Mmm."
Mien nodded: "Go ahead."
The two then entered the reception room.
As Rachel sat across from him, a maid came in, poured them coffee, and set out some delicate pastries.
The morning sunlight streamed in, and Lucia, dressed neatly in the Academy, sat upright with her head slightly bowed. Her hair fell down, obscuring her delicate and beautiful face, making her appear serene and clean.
Her shy demeanor accentuated her girlish beauty, giving Rachel a greater sense of control. She picked up her coffee and took a sip.
In contrast to Lucia's docile demeanor, Rachel leaned back with a relaxed posture, her long legs crossed, unconsciously exuding a sense of oppression.
"Luya, I heard you passed the national theoretical exam in just a few months. You did a great job."
Lucia quickly replied, "Thank you, Your Highness."
Then he stopped talking.
Rachel pushed the coffee cup opposite her forward:
"The coffee at the Academy is always very good, although I asked your teacher and the recipe is no different from what you get elsewhere."
But after spending some time in the academy, there's always a unique and wonderful feeling to it.
She playfully teased the tender newborn fawn in front of her.
Lucia looked up and saw Rachel's friendly yet assertive gaze. Flustered, she picked up her coffee and said, "Thank you."
I took a sip, but couldn't taste anything delicious; it just tasted bitter.
"Is it good?"
"Mmm, Your Highness, it's delicious..."
Rachel also took a sip: "I heard from Scholar Mien that you're from Iron Can Street near the capital, right?"
"Yes."
"More than ten years ago, I heard the general who raised me from childhood say, 'Oh, he is like your teacher, Mr. Mien, he is my teacher.'"
He said this place was once the most prosperous part of the capital, because it was here that the empire's capital was captured when it rose to power.
The two armies fought a decisive battle in this small place, killing more than 200,000 soldiers, all of whom died in this small area.
Later, due to the glory and blessings bestowed upon it by the establishment of the Holy Empire, and the significance it represented, it developed into a prosperous gathering place for high-ranking military personnel in the capital.
Rachel skillfully struck up a conversation while subtly exerting pressure.
Lucia nodded, holding her coffee to conceal her expression.
"Perhaps it was the sacred glory of this place in the past that gave birth to the new saintess."
Lucia, do you know what a saintess does?
Lucia answered nervously, "The saintess is the one who brings light to the empire."
"Oh?" Rachel was a little surprised by this statement, not remembering where she had heard it before, but replied casually:
"No, the Holy Maiden brought light to the Empire?"
The one who brings light to the empire is the Goddess of Light, so how could it be a saint or some kind of Church of Light?
After the Goddess of Light embarked on her journey, the Cassirer Empire was protected by the successive emperors of our empire.
These are the people who bring light to the empire, understand?
"I understand," Lucia replied.
Rachel smiled and continued:
"Otherwise, Iron Can Street wouldn't have remained peaceful and tranquil all these years, and the people wouldn't have been able to live happily and peacefully."
Upon hearing this, Lucia did not respond immediately, and subconsciously showed a puzzled expression.
Rachel noticed Lucia's reaction and was somewhat puzzled, but the clever girl immediately remembered that Mien had just shown her the cult's "plague" incident that had occurred in Iron Can Street.
However, I didn't take it seriously at the time, and it went in one ear and out the other.
He then said, "Yes, Chief Mien once told me that there seemed to be some minor incident involving the cult in your area some time ago, which was easily resolved with the help of the Empire."
The conversation naturally turned to the main topic:
"Luya, this is why I need you. I need the Saintess's help to make this empire better, understand?"
Lucia lowered her head, further concealing her expression.
The reply was a little louder: "Yes, I understand."
