Gold Rush Starts in the Bering Sea

Chapter 21: Danger and Opportunity

"Ha, Corinna, right? This is our first time meeting, but you don't seem to be giving up at all."

Andy had been panning for gold for so many years and had seen so many gold prospectors; he simply couldn't believe that this determined girl would give up.

Sitting in the corner of the sofa, Eric said slowly, "The boat is damaged, some equipment needs to be repaired, and the cost is too high."

Corinna's face flushed, but she wasn't embarrassed at all.

"Tsk tsk tsk," Jason clicked his tongue in amazement, "You have the nerve to say that?"

The ship is gone, the equipment needs major repairs, and yet she still has the audacity to ask for only half the income. Jason really doesn't know where Corinna gets such a big mouth.

"Jason, the damage to the boat isn't too bad, and the equipment repairs won't cost much. Once it's fixed, we can go out to sea together. Two boats are always more efficient than one," Corinna tempted.

The boat is still yours once it's repaired, but I still have to pay for the equipment repairs, and I'll have to take you out to sea to pan for gold.

Jason thought to himself, his eyes turning strange. Today he had finally seen what shamelessness and arrogance really meant.

"Corinna, you're really pushing your luck!" Jason blurted out a Chinese proverb when he was forced to.

"What?" Corinna asked, puzzled, not understanding what Jason meant.

Jason waved his hand: "It's nothing, I just feel like you have a really thick skin."

Jason is now like a piece of Tang Monk's flesh, everyone wants to take a bite.

"Look, it's not thick at all, it's quite thin~"

"Corinna, stop joking. Didn't you see Jason already rejected you?" Brent said bluntly.

He's not that smart, but this is in his best interest!

He and Andy each got 1% of the profits, but Corinna was asking for 50%. What a joke! He absolutely refused.

"Corinna, friends are friends, but this is business, so it's impossible for you to join us," Jason said, shrugging his shoulders.

Eric, who hadn't said much until now, suddenly asked, "Jason, can I join? I'll take the same salary as Brent."

"Eric, you..." Corinna stopped mid-sentence. She had no ability to go overseas to make her fortune, so what reason did she have to stop Eric?

Jason shook his head and declined. "Sorry, Eric, my ship is already full."

Eric's face was bitter, and his voice suddenly became a little hoarse. "Jason, it's okay, it's just business."

Not only in Jason's town, but also throughout the town, there are many gold prospectors who have nothing to do, but not many are going out to sea at this moment.

The disappearance of 23 people had a huge impact, and many gold prospectors gave up their gold mining.

The gold prospectors, who usually have jobs, are now gathered in small groups in the town, discussing whether any ship would be willing to take them in.

"Jason, I've discussed it with my boss, and we've decided to bring Corinna and Eric onto the Albert."

When Ada said this, Jason couldn't help but rub his ears, seriously doubting that there was something wrong with his ears.

"You agreed to Corinna's conditions?!" Jason would have cursed if Ada had dared to nod.

Ada shook her head and held up two fingers. "No, that's not true. My dad only paid 20% of Corinna's price for that old wrecked ship."

"Besides Corinna's, Dad also acquired quite a few small gold-digging boats."

"Anything else?" One message after another left Jason speechless.

"That's all."

Jason grabbed his hair, his face full of helplessness. "Why did Dad buy so many boats?"

Jason really didn't know what to say about Albert's thought process; he simply couldn't understand why Albert would buy such a dilapidated ship.

"You little rascal, I bought the boat and can use it after a few minor repairs," Albert said with a hint of smugness. "Besides, gold prices are still rising this year. If we rent the boat out now, the rental income alone will be enough to cover a year's expenses."

Jason, reborn, never expected Albert's foresight to be so accurate, after all, gold prices had been rising exponentially over the next ten years.

"Do you have enough money?"

"Of course," Albert said with his usual pride. "I've been panning for gold in the Bering Sea for over a decade, I can't be so stingy that I can't even afford this little bit of money."

"Don't forget, I still have 20%," Jason smacked his lips, reminding him.

"You brat!"

Albert couldn't help but laugh and scold Jason for his discouraging remarks.

Risk represents opportunity; some retreat, while others are greedy.

But the consequences of this storm are still spreading, especially in gold rush areas like Alaska, where many people are deeply affected.

But it also made many people aware of the dangers of gold panning. Before this, many people only had a vague impression of gold panning.

"Jason, some gold rush show is looking for you."

Jason looked at the person who received the call with a strange expression.

It's only 2005 now, but in his memory, this program only started recording in 2011. It was a copycat production made after the "Gold Rush" program became a huge hit.

Since they're already here, let's just meet them.

"Hello Jason, I'm Jon Smith, you can call me Jon," a middle-aged man wearing gold-rimmed glasses introduced himself politely.

Jon was heavily pregnant, wearing a custom-made suit, and his hair was neatly combed.

With a round face and a warm smile, he warmly shook hands.

After shaking hands, Jason introduced himself: "Jason Wilson, you can call me Jason."

Jason asked curiously, "I heard you guys run some kind of gold rush show, but what's it called?"

"Recording hasn't started yet," Jon smiled and introduced the program.

"We plan to find some gold prospectors in the Bering Sea and document their gold panning process."

The program is called "Gold Rush in the Bering Sea".

Although he had some suspicions, Jason still thought to himself, "Just as I expected," when he heard the name.

The timeline has indeed changed. In the previous life, filming only began in 2011, but now it started in 2005.

"Can I ask why they chose me?" Although Jason had seen it in his previous life, he couldn't help but be curious about why the production team chose him.

As they walked and talked, they sat down face to face in the meeting room. Jon answered Jason's question, "Actually, we wanted to choose your father, but after learning about your situation, we found that you are the most suitable person."

"And your father refused."

Jon's answer resolved Jason's doubts. Jason had watched the show in his previous life, but Albert's name was not mentioned.

"Jason, although our show is still in preparation, we anticipate that we will..."

Jason nodded at Jon's talk about the program's planning, the fame and gains, and the assistance the production team would provide. He had guessed these things when he watched the program in his previous life, but now they were confirmed.

After all, Parker, the producer of the sister show "Gold Rush" in his previous life, had been to many large gold mines and many dangerous places. He wouldn't believe it without the help of the production team.

"Jon, I'm glad to receive your invitation, but I'll be turning to land-based gold mining next year."

Jon looked surprised. Before coming, he had inquired about Jason's situation: a novice, from a family of gold miners, with a considerable fortune, young, and known as a street hustler on the Bering Sea.

With so many labels attached to him, he originally thought Jason would stay in the Bering Sea, but he never expected the kid to have such great ambitions.

"Still in Alaska?" Jon wouldn't mind making Jason into a series; Jason would get good ratings regardless of his success or failure.

He even had the title ready.

"I don't know," Jason shook his head, pondering as he said, "I haven't decided yet, but I'm leaning towards Australia; at least there you can pan for gold year-round."

"Jason, I hope you won't refuse to join our show. After all, our production team has quite a reputation around the world."

"Wherever you are, Jason, I can guarantee you maximum freedom, and at the same time, you can leverage our company's influence."

"Especially some of the ones above, you know what I mean~"

Jason has too much of a gimmick, and he's unwilling to give it up.

"Jon, I'll be honest with you, I really like your show," Jason said, extending his hand.

He has the detection ability to find gold, but the most important thing is to prevent others from stealing it.

It's alright here in the Bering Sea, where Albert is at least a local tyrant. But once he ventures outside, he's nothing more than a flea to those mining companies.

Jason is trying to use this show to boost his fame, putting everything out in the open so that those with ill intentions won't dare to do anything underhanded.

"Jason, I know something sad happened in the Bering Sea a couple of days ago, which is why we made this program," Jon said, holding Jason's hand and tentatively asking, "I wonder if you could try to persuade your father?"

Jason laughed, "Haha, that's no easy job."

"But you're more likely to persuade them, aren't you?"

"No, it's the same for me; he doesn't have a very good temper."

"Jason, you don't seem like an eighteen-year-old at all."

"Jon, you're a very smart person too."

The two looked at each other and smiled, laughing simultaneously.

Jon got what he wanted, Jason got help, and both got what they desired.

The show was still in preparation, but after learning of Jason's plans, Jon didn't waste any time and immediately brought in two experienced filmmakers and an assistant from New York.

The underwater photography team consisted of Kyle and Schlein, with an assistant named Cass.

The three of them formed a makeshift photography team.
