Gold Rush Starts in the Bering Sea
Chapter 35: Jason the "Charlatan"
Corey walked out of Jason's house with a stiff expression. Since "cooperation" was not an option, he had no choice but to come out in the open.
"Jason, are you alright?" Lillian frowned as she watched Corey walk away.
She could sense that this person had a very strong business sense, and she was genuinely afraid that Jason would suffer a loss.
Jason shook his head, not revealing Corey's purpose.
After resting for another day and inspecting the equipment, Jason and his two companions set sail again.
Unlike in the past, this time, in addition to some gold mining boats, two speedboats followed closely behind.
"Jason, these people don't seem to have any good intentions," Andy said, glancing at the two speedboats with a heavy tone.
Two speedboats were equipped with cameras. They moved fast when the other speedboats moved fast, and slowed down when the other speedboats moved slow. They were clearly trying to outlast them.
If nothing unexpected happens, this should be the work of Corey, the owner of that mining company.
Cass and his two companions were somewhat bewildered, especially when they saw the photographer who seemed to be working with them. Cass even made a phone call to inquire about the situation.
The result was obvious: they weren't sent from above.
Cass looked at him strangely. "Jason, did you hire this photographer yourself?"
"No," Jason shook his head, flashing a bright smile at the two speedboats. He knew these two photographers would definitely be able to capture the shot.
"They've started work, don't worry, they won't affect us."
Jason found Corey's actions amusing. If they wanted to peek into his gold-digging methods, then let them see them openly and honestly.
Of course, Jason wouldn't mind playing a trick on them.
"You all need to stay focused and keep a serious expression on your faces," Jason instructed the group.
On the deck, Jason began operating the boat, his steps unsteady yet his face solemn, as if performing a deeply devout ritual.
Andy and the others had tense, serious expressions, but a closer look revealed that the corners of their mouths were twitching slightly.
At the end of the "ritual", Jason put his hands together, closed his eyes, as if receiving divine revelation, and finally pointed his finger in a direction.
"This is……"
"This is what we're supposed to film?!"
"As long as the money's there, stop talking nonsense and take pictures of everything."
"Damn it, this is supposed to be the king of gold mining on the Bering Sea?!"
On the speedboat, two photographers worked non-stop. They didn't understand Jason's shamanistic approach to choosing gold-digging spots, but they were deeply impressed.
On the Lillian, Jason, with his back to the camera on the speedboat, couldn't help but laugh.
"Jason, you're hilarious, hahahaha." Jason shrugged, unable to suppress his laughter, but remembering Jason's instructions, he turned his back to the two cameras.
Andy didn't say anything, but he smiled and quietly gave Jason a thumbs up.
But the happiest people were Cass and his group, especially Cass, who was able to see what would happen after the scene was broadcast.
While navigating the ship, they used their detection capabilities to sense the distribution of gold.
Upon arriving at an area rich in gold, Jason stopped the boat and gave the group a few more instructions from the wheelhouse.
Jason stood on the deck, then stomped his foot, clasped his hands together, remained silent for a moment, and pointed his index finger at his feet.
"Let's start panning for gold!"
At Jason's command, Brent donned his diving suit, activated the equipment, and plunged into the sea.
On the other two speedboats, the people looked at each other in bewilderment.
There's no other way, just take the picture.
Whatever the situation, I've already paid.
"Ring ring, ring ring..."
The phone rang, and everyone looked at each other. Finally, an older photographer answered the phone.
On the other end of the phone, Corey asked excitedly, "How did it go? Did you get the picture?"
"Well, I did manage to take the picture, but..."
Before he could finish speaking, Corey's excited voice interrupted him, "Just film it! Make sure you save the video. I'll give you a bonus when you bring it back!"
As he spoke, Corey couldn't help but laugh, and his laughter could be heard even through the phone.
As the owner of a mining company, he was usually wise and calm, but when he thought about Jason's special gold-finding methods and the endless stream of gold in the future, his emotions still jumped.
"Um, boss, we..."
"Beep beep beep..."
The call was disconnected. The photographer holding the phone twitched his lips, slapped himself in the face, and grabbed his hair.
At least let me finish what I was saying!
A bitter smile, more painful than a grimace, appeared on his face as he looked at his companions and said, "You all heard it, so... that's it~"
The camera remained fixed on Jason, no matter what he did.
The gold panning lasted for two hours. Jason stood beside the gold pan, carefully lifting the felt to reveal the glittering gold underneath.
The angle was deliberately chosen so that the photographer could capture it.
"This method really...works?!"
"Who knows? Just take a picture. You really want to strike it rich this way?"
"I've seen bizarre ways to pan for gold, but this... is the first time I've ever seen anything like it."
When the photographers saw the glittering gold through the lens, they were somewhat taken aback.
Everything was filmed on camera. Apart from Jason's strange movements, there was nothing particularly special about it, but the result was unacceptable to them.
Moving to a different location, and repeating the same procedure, Jason posed for photos again next to the gold trough a few hours later.
Time and again, the gleaming gold was captured in its entirety in photographs.
Once might be an accident, twice could be a coincidence, but three times is a bit hard to believe.
"Knock knock knock~"
A photographer, mimicking Jason's pose, froze in place—not because he had found gold, but because his leg had gone numb.
It turns out that this strange behavior was a complete hoax!
But Jason's golden harvest proves that this is no exaggeration.
The photographer on the speedboat endured three days of agony, Jason endured three days of agony, and Andy and the others endured three days of suppressing their laughter.
When the Lillian returned to port, both the photographers who had been following it and Jason himself breathed a sigh of relief.
On the dock, Corey paced back and forth in a black down jacket.
Upon seeing the Lillian and the two speedboats following behind, Corey instantly smiled, stopped in his tracks, put his hands in his pockets, and reverted to his original elite demeanor.
"Jason, long time no see!" Corey greeted Jason on board as soon as the Lillian came to a stop.
It's a provocation, and it's also smugness!
After a brief conversation with the photographer, Corey quickly left with the memory card.
"Jason, what do you think his expression will be when he sees your performance on camera?" Brent couldn't help but chuckle at the thought.
"I bet he'll be just like those photographers, he'll have to give it a try, hahaha," Andy said, pointing at the photographers and laughing.
While at sea, they saw these people imitating others through their binoculars, and they burst out laughing, especially when their feet went numb from stomping.
In an office, Corey looked at the footage being filmed, and the more he looked, the deeper his brow furrowed.
With a snap, he lit a cigarette, deeply bewildered by Jason's strange behavior in the video.
When the gleaming gold appeared in the gold pan, Corey, acting on his professional instincts, estimated it to be no less than fifty ounces.
It's normal to have less, but the fact that Jason gained so much using this method made Corey feel like his worldview was being distorted.
Fast forward, and then fast forward again.
Setting aside the gold rush portion, Corey looked bewildered as he watched Jason's repeated gains and strange behavior.
"Does this method really work?" Corey muttered to himself.
I didn't see any professionalism, but there were some unusual methods, though these were far too unusual.
"How about we give it a try?"
Envious of Jason's harvest in the video, Corey locked the door and began to operate according to Jason's method in the video.
"Knock knock knock"
The sound of stomping feet rang out, followed by Corey's wailing.
I didn't notice my shoes and stomped my foot suddenly; it hurt so much.
"Damn it!" Corey cursed angrily as he looked at Jason's smiling face in the paused video, feeling that Jason in the video was mocking him.
The expenses for the speedboat and photographer were minor matters; as the owner of a mining company, he wasn't short of money.
However, he couldn't accept being mocked in this way.
Corey is furious that his confident collaboration was rejected and now he's being mocked from afar.
But seeing the glittering gold behind Jason, Corey couldn't resist trying again.
What if, what if it's true?
This time he learned his lesson and made sure to change his shoes.
Corey's feet were stomped on again, and he came to the conclusion that this was all a hoax!
Jason watched the video being filmed by the photographer with a gloomy expression. Each time, he would find a good angle, then reveal a smile and the gold behind him.
One time could be considered a coincidence, but if it happens every time, then it's no longer a coincidence and can be clearly explained.
Thinking back on his actions, Corey couldn't help but shake his head and smile bitterly. How foolish of him to have actually believed it.
He lit a cigarette, and as the wisps of smoke rose slowly, Corey watched Jason's gains in the video and returned to his usual wise demeanor.
"If I can't have it, I'll just have to take it slow."
He knew that it was impossible to obtain Jason's gold-mining method in a peaceful way, so he had to resort to a less-than-respectable method.
After dialing the number, Corey said, "It's me, Corey. Buy me a few more gold-digging ships, remember to modify them. Also, buy five small gold-sucking ships."
Corey has revealed his hand; as the owner of a mining company, he has decided to use his power to intimidate others!
