Gold Rush Starts in the Bering Sea
Chapter 54: Little Hart Joins
Back at the hotel, Jason went straight to the bathroom; all he wanted now was a good shower.
In the hotel restaurant, Albert had already ordered the food and drinks, and the barbecue was already on the grill.
While Jason's hair was still wet, Ada put her arm around Jason's shoulder and led him into the restaurant.
Old Hart waved to Jason, grinning from ear to ear, his eyes narrowing into slits, and laughed loudly, "Jason, come on, come on, today's the day to celebrate!"
Because of his long-standing family ties with the Albert family, he understood Jason quite well, even though Jason had never liked gold mining since childhood.
But unexpectedly, they suddenly started looking for gold this year. Starting from the Bering Sea, they quickly made their mark there and are now even more impressive, as they are about to own a mine in Australia.
It's so fast!
Jason seems like a born success story.
Old Hart glanced at his son and shook his head inwardly, but thankfully, there was this connection between them.
Andy, already drinking, called out to Jason, "Jason, come over here, let's have a few drinks!"
Jason shook his head with a smile and sat down next to Swail and Ronaldo. He found it amusing to watch the two who couldn't stand each other.
He took out two wads of cash from his pocket, placed them directly on the table, and pushed them in front of Swail, saying, "Swiel, this is what we agreed on back then. You can check it."
"Oh my," Swell hugged and kissed him, then stuffed him into his pocket. "Why are you still investigating? I believe you."
Ronaldo's eyes turned red. That was 20,000 US dollars. Keep in mind that this was 2005, and 20,000 US dollars was no small sum.
Looking at Ronaldo, Novell patted him on the shoulder and said with a hint of provocation, "Kid, you're still young, you still have a chance, hahahaha."
"You old codger, you're just lucky," Ronaldo retorted unwillingly.
Seeing that the two were about to clash again, Jason interrupted, asking them, "Swell, Ronaldo, I need to confirm with you whether you're sure you want to join my gold rush team?"
"Of course, Jason, we agreed on this back then." Now we have the mine and the equipment. Although we don't have enough manpower, we can just hire more people.
Having spent his entire life in the gold mining industry, Swell didn't want to leave now.
"I'll pass. I was just a tour guide brought in by the production team, and my job isn't really here. I still want to go back to Ballarat." After a long silence, Ronaldo finally refused.
Jason expressed his understanding and respect for Ronaldo's choice. Ronaldo's joining was an accident in itself, and now that Jason has found a suitable mine, it's time to part ways.
After paying Ronaldo, Jason left the two men, carrying a bottle of beer, and went to Connor's team.
"Connor, thank you for your team's hard work over the past two weeks," Jason said, downing his beer in one gulp and wiping his mouth.
Connor, holding a bottle of beer, clinked it against Jason's and said with a blessing, "Jason, you're the most generous boss I've ever met. May you strike it rich!"
After chatting with Connor and his teammates for a while, he walked over to Brent and the others.
"So young, yet so rich, I'm so envious."
"Born into a gold-mining family, our birth was the end of our lives."
"At least he's a good person. After all, we've known each other for over two weeks, and he hasn't given us any bad orders. He's also been generous with food and drink."
"Indeed, this was the easiest and most enjoyable drilling job I've ever had."
……
At the dinner table, the group looked at the young Jason and then at themselves, feeling a mix of emotions—a mixture of sighs and envy. However, after spending time with Jason, they still held him in high regard.
"Jason, have a seat, have a seat," Brent greeted him warmly. Seeing Jason heading in a certain direction, he immediately came over and handed Jason a freshly opened bottle of beer.
The atmosphere was lively, and the entire restaurant was filled with laughter.
Jason was generous to some of the out-of-town diners, inviting them to a beer and a meal each.
The barbecue was served, and everyone ate and drank. Except for Albert, Old Hart, Lillian, and Ellie, everyone else started drinking.
There are no specific rules regarding spirits and beer; anyone can drink whatever they want.
Lillian sat beside Albert, watching Jason warmly welcome everyone, and remarked, "Jason is acting like a boss now; he's really good at handling interpersonal relationships."
Albert said sourly, "So what? It's all because Jason can find gold. If he couldn't find gold, do you think anyone would still be around him?"
"Are you jealous?" Lillian teased.
"What are you talking about? You think I'd be jealous?" Albert said dismissively, but his voice unconsciously grew louder, though Lillian, as his wife, could still tell.
Lillian reassured him, "Alright, alright, Jason is still your son. Why are you comparing yourself to him for no reason?"
Albert didn't say anything more, but it was clear that Lillian's words hadn't had much of an effect.
He was proud of Jason's current situation, but as a man, even though Jason was his son, his damn competitive spirit wouldn't allow him to admit defeat.
"Albert, should I or you handle Little Hart's matter?"
Albert and Lillian had no objection to Old Hart's decision regarding the trip, but they still needed to see Jason's opinion.
Lillian believed she knew her child quite well, but after Jason grew up and entered the gold rush industry, she realized that her understanding of him was still incomplete.
When Jason was short of people at the beginning, he invited Brent and Eric. Later, Brent joined, while Eric chose Corinna.
However, when Corinna ran into problems, Jason refused Eric's offer to join the team without hesitation.
They even recruited Andy to join the team, but didn't let Eric join.
She knew then that Jason wasn't without temper; he just didn't express it.
Little Hart had also rejected Jason, and she was worried that the same thing would happen.
After a long silence, Albert spoke up: "Let me say it."
Albert knew Lillian's concerns, and before she could speak, he said directly, "Don't worry, I know what to say. I won't pressure Jason."
For gold prospectors in the Bering Sea, everyone hopes for a bigger stage; however, compared to other places, the investment in the Bering Sea is already relatively small.
The investment is small, but the returns are considerable, which is why so many gold prospectors flock to the Bering Sea every year.
But what happened this year has left old Hart, who comes from a family of gold miners, somewhat shaken. He's not exactly afraid, but he's worried about his only son, young Hart.
Although the gold mining industry can be described as a high-risk, high-reward industry.
But in comparison, land-based gold panning
Every year, too many gold prospectors encounter accidents in the Bering Sea, but when Jason explored Australia and decided to turn to land-based gold panning, Old Hart decided to bring Young Hart into Jason's gold panning team.
Seeing the lively atmosphere, Albert didn't disturb them.
The party went on until late at night, and apart from Albert, Old Hart, Lillian, and Ellie, everyone else had drunk quite a bit.
Jason drank quite a bit, but thankfully it was all beer. Although he was dizzy, he kept it under control because he had to sign a contract the next day.
As everyone dispersed, Albert called out to Jason, who was heading back to his room.
Under the eaves of the cabin, Albert sat in a chair, looking at Jason, whose face was flushed, and asked, "Have you had too much to drink?"
Jason shook his head: "No, I'm just a little dizzy, but I'm keeping it under control."
"I have something to tell you."
"Yes, you say," Jason replied with his eyes closed, lying on the recliner.
Albert, with a cigar dangling from his lips, ignored Jason's posture and said to himself, "Old Hart has decided to let young Hart join your gold rush team."
These words jolted Jason awake. He sat bolt upright, frowning as he asked, "What's going on? Why did you suddenly bring Hart into my team?"
"If I remember correctly, wasn't young Hart supposed to take over the family gold mining business?"
"Alright, alright, stop asking so many questions," Albert waved his hand, stopping Jason's inquiry. "The reason is simple: what happened this year has scared old Hart."
"Gold panning on land is much safer than panning for gold in the Bering Sea."
"I'm not pressuring you, but Hart grew up with you, and you should know his mechanical repair skills, which are exactly what your team lacks right now."
Perhaps due to the alcohol, Jason's mind hadn't quite processed what he was saying: "I have no problem with young Hart joining, but who's Uncle Hart going to find to take over the family gold mining business?"
"It's a family business of gold mining. Old Hart only has one son. If his son dies, what's the point of him taking over? Now Old Hart is the same age as me, it's not like he can't continue mining for gold."
Seeing Jason, who was getting drunk and not thinking clearly, Abbott said impatiently, "Alright, that's enough. Go to sleep now."
