Chapter 111 Romantic Luck
The atmosphere in the hall changed instantly after those words were spoken.
Chu Sheng could hear the hushed whispers of the nobles around him: "[Hero]?", "So young?", "He's quite handsome, I want to sleep with him.", "Is the previous [Hero] already dead?"
He scratched his head somewhat awkwardly and gave a slight nod to the crowd looking at him.
It was no secret that he was a "Hero," and this journey was even considered an official mission for the Empire, but this was the first time he had revealed his identity in public.
Madame Mira ignored the whispers in the room, picked up a crystal glass filled with deep red wine, and raised it high.
"The first cup of wine is offered to the leader of the Heavenly Horse."
Her voice rose, carrying a solemnity and reverence that only those who have long held high positions could cultivate.
"Respect to this vast grassland beneath the Tunguska Mountains, and respect to the people who have grazed, farmed, and traded on this grassland for generations."
Respect to the centaur tribe's heroic strides, respect to the winged messengers' steadfastness in the storm, respect to all races that call Pegasus Land their home.
She paused.
"Pegasus Territory is the granary of the empire's north, the hub of the north-south trade routes, and a model of multi-ethnic coexistence. Every Pegasus, every sheaf of wool, and every piece of cheese here embodies the sweat and wisdom of everyone on this land. May Pegasus Territory prosper, and may the banner of the Whitehorse family forever fly atop the towers of Whitewing City!"
'
"A toast to Tianma Ling!" The nobles and wealthy merchants in the hall responded in unison, raising their wine glasses one after another.
Chu Sheng also raised his cup. His cup contained honey lemon water, which Amber had arranged with the maid beforehand to be changed for him.
He has a really low alcohol tolerance. Last time he had a few sips and almost passed out in Amber's arms. It would be too embarrassing to get drunk in such a formal setting.
Everyone finished their drinks, and the servants immediately came forward to refill their glasses.
Mrs. Mira raised her glass again.
"The second toast is to the Empire."
Her tone became more solemn.
"Homage to His Majesty Virgil III's wise rule, to the immortal achievements of the Imperial Knights, to the Mage Tower, the Sanctuary, and all the people of the Empire who have devoted themselves to the prosperity and stability of the Empire. May the Empire prosper, and may the North enjoy eternal peace."
"Homage to the Empire!" the crowd echoed in unison once again.
Mrs. Mira raised her glass for the third time.
"The third toast is to everyone present tonight."
Her tone softened slightly, and she gave a faint smile.
"A toast to our distinguished guests who have traveled from afar, and to all the family heads and presidents who have worked hand in hand with the Whitehorse family for many years. The prosperity of Pegasus Territory is inseparable from your support, and the rise and fall of the Whitehorse family is closely related to your fate. May your families prosper and your businesses flourish."
"Greetings, everyone!" This response was even more enthusiastic than the previous two, clearly indicating that the nobles and wealthy merchants present were very pleased.
Mrs. Mira nodded slightly and drank the wine in her glass in one gulp.
Please take your seats, everyone. There's no need for formalities.
As soon as the words were spoken, the atmosphere in the hall finally shifted from solemn to relaxed. The nobles went to their respective seats, servants carried appetizers and drinks among them, and the musicians picked up their instruments again, with a soothing string quartet playing throughout the hall.
Chu Sheng and his entourage were led by attendants to the main table at the back of the hall. This table was placed on a raised platform at the far end of the hall, two steps higher than the other tables. It was covered with a snow-white tablecloth and set with a set of silver cutlery and crystal wine glasses.
The main table has six seats.
Mrs. Mira naturally sat in the main seat in the center. To her left was Chu Sheng, and to her right was Arthur.
Amber was in the middle across the long table, Silverleaf was on her left, and Ella was on her right.
As soon as Chu Sheng sat down, he realized that his seat was too close to Mrs. Mira.
After sitting down, you can touch Mrs. Mira's arm with a slight lift of your arm, and smell her faint fragrance, which is a blend of some unknown floral scent and the cool scent of cedar.
"Isn't this seating arrangement a bit...?" Chu Sheng felt a little uneasy, even though there were so many empty seats next to him.
Amber elegantly spread her napkin on her lap and smiled, "The seat to the left of the head of the table is the seat of honor, which, according to the rules, should indeed be yours."
At this moment, Mrs. Mira turned her head slightly and said, "Chu Sheng, I personally selected the menu for tonight. The main course is roasted silver trout with lemon butter sauce, along with herb-baked snails, honey-glazed roasted goose, and truffle mushroom soup. For dessert, we have crème brûlée and berry tart. I hope you will enjoy it."
Just as Chu Sheng was about to express his gratitude, he heard Amber say softly, "Your Highness is too kind; these are indeed all foods that Chu Sheng likes to eat."
Mrs. Mira looked up and met Amber's gaze.
"Your Majesty is too kind." Lady Mira smiled slightly. "If Your Majesty has any dietary restrictions, please let me know and I will have the kitchen prepare something else."
"No need to trouble yourself, I don't have any special dietary restrictions," Amber replied with a smile. "It's just that Chu Sheng can't drink much alcohol, so I've already had the maid replace the wine with honey lemon water."
"I see." Lady Mira nodded. "His Majesty has considered this very carefully."
The two people were talking to each other across the distance, their tone polite and their expressions dignified.
Chu Sheng silently took a sip of the honey lemon water, pretending to be studying the silver-plated fork on the table.
Amber offered to sit on Silverleaf Ella's side because she didn't plan to drink.
At formal banquets in the empire, non-drinking guests usually sit on the outer side to avoid frequent toasts.
After Chu Sheng told Ella that she couldn't eat with her hands at the banquet, she was confused. She stared at the row of gleaming cutlery in front of her for a while, then carefully picked up a fork and poked at the plate in front of her.
"Silverleaf, why does this fork have four points?" Ella asked softly.
"Because those are dinner forks, used to skewer food," Yinye explained patiently.
"And this?" Ella picked up a dinner knife.
"A dinner knife, used for cutting meat."
"What about this?" Ella picked up a spoon.
"A spoon, for drinking soup."
"And this?" Ella picked up a small silver knife, one size smaller than the dinner knife.
Yinye glanced at it, then remained silent for a moment before saying, "I don't know either. I'm from the village too."
"That's a butter knife, for spreading butter," Mrs. Mira said with a slight smile.
Ella neatly arranged the cutlery in front of her and counted them from left to right: "Four, but Ella only has two hands."
"No need to take them all at once." Mrs. Mira felt a little tired. "One dish uses one or two kinds of tableware. After finishing one dish, the waiter will take away the used tableware before starting the next dish."
Ella nodded thoughtfully, then picked up the butter knife again: "Ella wants to spread butter now, but the bread hasn't arrived yet."
"Then put the knife down first." Yinye gritted her teeth in exasperation, feeling that the villagers had completely lost face.
"Okay." Ella obediently put the butter knife back in its place, then her gaze was drawn to the crystal vase on the table. "Can you eat these flowers?"
"No." Yinye reacted quickly, grabbing Ai La's wrist before she could reach out.
Amber rubbed her temples.
She possesses a rarely used talent: exceptional hearing. This talent isn't unique to her; all elves have decent hearing, especially pure-blooded royal elves.
Super hearing is mostly useless because other people's whispers are not worth listening to.
But tonight was just too noisy, and some sounds inevitably reached her ears.
"Is this [Hero] real? He looks so young! Has he had his coming-of-age ceremony?"
"I don't know, but I heard he's incredibly lucky with women!"
Upon hearing this, even Amber couldn't help but perk up her ears.
