Traveling Through Multiple Realms: The Supporting Character's Counterattack
Chapter 33 Main Battlefield
"Konoha's Black Lightning"—the name that was first uttered in fear by some surviving Iwa ninja, along with the news that "Armor Quartz" had been defeated head-on by an unknown Konoha genin and that even the strongest Earth Release technique had been annihilated with a single punch, spread across the battlefield of the Land of Grass at an unprecedented speed.
For Iwagakure, this was not just the loss of an elite Jonin, but also a heavy blow to morale.
Quartz's defense is renowned in Iwagakure, but it has now been broken by a young boy in the most brute force, which has shaken the belief of some Iwagakure ninja in their "absolute defense".
The Iwagakure leadership was both shocked and furious. On the one hand, they strictly ordered the details of the news to be sealed off to prevent panic from spreading. On the other hand, they added the name "Genma Shiranui" to the list of people to be on high alert and to be eliminated if necessary.
When frontline commanders adjusted their tactics, they had to start considering this sudden variable. Some squads even became more cautious, fearing they might encounter the rumored "monster genin" who could shatter rocks with a single punch.
On the Konoha side, Genma instantly became a shot in the arm for their low morale.
Especially among newly promoted genin and lower-ranking ninjas, he has almost become a symbol—a symbol of talent, hard work, and miracles.
The young ninjas, who had initially become timid due to the cruelty of war, would have their eyes light up again when they talked about Genma's deeds.
It turns out that even without a bloodline limit, one can still shine brightly on the battlefield and even defeat powerful enemies with outstanding skills and a tenacious will.
This motivational effect is, in some ways, greater than the tactical value of killing an enemy Jonin.
The tenth class, led by Baiyun Yeshan, thus received more attention.
Some veteran teams that were initially critical of these "rookie" combinations now look at them with a degree of recognition and respect.
Of course, fame doesn't only bring benefits.
Genma could clearly sense that when he was on patrol and reconnaissance missions, the spying gazes cast from the shadows became more numerous and more covert.
Those weren't just from Iwagakure; they might also include their own people.
Konoha is rife with factions, and a suddenly rising genius who doesn't belong to any major clan will naturally come into the sights of certain forces.
Genma was fully aware of this, but he didn't care.
Faced with absolute power, these undercurrents are ultimately just minor matters.
What he needs to do now is to adapt to the pace of the battlefield as soon as possible, digest his combat experience, and transform his reputation into actual deterrence.
……
On the third day after the medical base was established, the emergency mobilization order was finally issued.
Team 10 was assigned to a mixed support force consisting of several Chunin and Genin squads and was quickly dispatched to the core and most devastating area of the Grass Country front.
The closer you get to the main battlefield, the heavier the chilling and bloody atmosphere becomes, almost solidifying and making it hard to breathe.
The once lush and green hills of the Grass Kingdom are now scarred and devastated.
The scorched earth was riddled with huge craters, the marks of the devastation caused by explosive tags and earth-based ninjutsu.
Broken weapons, shattered headbands, and dark red bloodstains that hadn't been completely cleaned up were everywhere.
Crows circled low overhead, emitting ominous cries, as they nibbled at the scattered remains.
The wind no longer carried the fresh scent of grass and trees, but rather a nauseating mixture of gunpowder, burnt ash, and rotting corpses.
The sprawling camps were built against the mountainside, and the Konoha flags fluttered on the somewhat dilapidated watchtowers.
But the atmosphere in the camp was as oppressive as the deathly stillness before a storm, and everyone's face was filled with exhaustion, numbness, and deep-seated fear.
The groans of wounded soldiers drifted intermittently from the various tents, mingling with the distant rumble of explosions on the horizon, creating a hellish scene.
"Is this the main battlefield?"
Ebisu was pale, adjusted his glasses, and his voice trembled uncontrollably.
The scene before him was a hundred times more brutal than the previous sneak attack, shocking his mind.
Even the usually passionate Kai pursed his lips tightly, his thick eyebrows furrowed, and his gaze as he looked around was filled with heaviness.
Genma walked silently, his chakra perception subtly spreading.
He could "hear" even more subtle sounds—the commander's hoarse roar, the ninja's dying cry, the muffled thud of earth-release jutsu rising, and the savage and ominous tremors hidden deep underground, filled with the unique savagery of tailed beast chakra.
"Cheer up, everyone!"
The leader, a scarred Konoha Chunin, shouted sternly, "There are no new recruits or veterans here, only the living and the dead! If you want to live, stick with the group and obey orders!"
They were taken outside the front-line command tent.
Soon, Genma spotted several familiar figures.
Even against the gloomy background, Minato Namikaze's dazzling blond hair stood out. He was exchanging rapid words with several Jonin, his expression serious, but his eyes remained sharp.
He seemed to sense the gaze, looked up, and when he saw Genji, he nodded slightly, a hint of concern flashing in his eyes.
Not far away, the Ino-Shika-Cho trio—Akimichi Choza, Nara Shikaku, and Yamanaka Inoichi—were sitting together, discussing tactics in hushed tones. Shikaku's fingers moved rapidly across the map, his brow furrowed.
The Inuzuka clan ninjas and their ninja dogs stood quietly on standby, while the Aburame clan stood like silent black towers, and the Hyuga clan's Byakugan constantly and vigilantly scanned the distance.
Almost all of Konoha's elite forces are gathered here.
Their opponents, too, were equally formidable.
Fragments of intelligence transmitted from the command tent pieced together the enemy's lineup:
The commander-in-chief is Hiroto, son of the third Tsuchikage, Onoki, who is both steady and strategic.
Captain Kari of the Demolition Squad is feared for his dangerous Explosion Release Kekkei Genkai.
There are also skilled assassins and infiltrators such as Hiru, Oishi, and Hikari, as well as powerful commander Higashi Shijin and other Jonin.
What is most unsettling are those two nightmarish beings—Roushi, the Jinchūriki of the Four-Tails, and Han, the Jinchūriki of the Five-Tails.
"Team 10: Genma Shiranui, Might Guy, and Ebisu!"
The ordering ninja read out their names: "Assign them to the third defensive echelon, responsible for the auxiliary defense of Hill 3 on the left flank! Report for duty immediately!"
"yes!"
Without a moment's rest, new orders were issued.
Following the directions, the three hurried toward the hilltop shrouded in smoke.
On Hill 3, the battle never ceased.
Iwagakure's offensive came like a tide, wave after wave.
Huge rock projectiles rained down from the sky, requiring the combined efforts of ninjas to shatter them; elusive earth-penetrating techniques could launch a surprise attack from beneath their feet at any moment; and a barrage of shuriken and explosive tag kunai rained down.
"Earth Release·Earth Style Wall!"
"Fire Release: Great Dragon Fire Technique!"
"Partial Multiplication Technique!"
The Konoha ninja fought desperately under the command of their respective captains, with roars, explosions, and screams filling the air.
"Kai! Open the gap on the right, block them!"
"Ebisu, use Fire Release to cover!"
"Genma, fire freely and suppress that Iwagakure demolition expert!"
Baiyun Yeshan's instructions were clear and swift, and the three members of the 10th Squad, like gears in a precision instrument, quickly integrated into the rhythm of the battle.
Kai roared and transformed into a green whirlwind, using his fierce taijutsu to kick away the Iwa ninja who was trying to break through the defense.
Ebisu overcame his fear, formed hand seals, and unleashed a fireball, disrupting the enemy's formation.
Genma, like a ghostly grim reaper, roamed the edge of the battlefield, his senbon needles and shuriken drawing deadly arcs. Each flash of cold light was almost always accompanied by a muffled groan or the fall of an Iwa ninja.
His superb shuriken skills played a huge role in the chaotic battlefield, often enabling him to escape from an unexpected angle or kill the enemy.
