Chapter 15 You call me uncle, I call you sister

"Young lady, are you calling me?"

"You don't remember me?"

The girl with glasses looked at Lin Chuan suspiciously. Seeing Lin Chuan shake his head, she pouted and said:

"Alright, stop pretending. I've seen this kind of trick a million times."

"nerve."

Lin Chuan found these self-important riddle-makers incredibly annoying, mainly because he had encountered too many of them in his later years. He turned around, showing the other person the back of his head.

Seeing that Lin Chuan ignored her, the girl with glasses stomped her foot in anger and turned to enter the residential area.

"Does she live in this neighborhood too?"

When Lin Chuan registered, he casually asked the old man a question, and the old man gave him a strange look:

"You don't know her?"

"Should I know him?"

Lin Chuan muttered to himself as he walked towards Lin Hongmei's house.

Who is it?

"Sister, it's me."

"Xiao Chuan, what brings you here?"

This time, Lin Hongmei did not invite Lin Chuan in. It was clear that Lin Chuan's visits over the past two days had changed her perception of this "younger brother".

Lin Chuan seemed oblivious to Lin Hongmei's change and handed the bag forward:

"Sister, you said yesterday that Auntie wasn't feeling well. Here are two wild boar stomachs for her to help her recover."

"No, I can't accept something for nothing. I haven't paid for the big bag of stuff you gave me yesterday. Wait a minute, I'll go get the money for you."

Lin Hongmei didn't take Lin Chuan's bag, nor did she invite him in to sit down. After saying that, she turned around to get the money.

"Hey, sis, do you think I'm here to suck up?"

Lin Hongmei stopped and didn't speak, but Lin Chuan continued:

"Sister, I admit I had ulterior motives for bringing you this. I just came to the city from the countryside and ran into some thugs. I'm feeling uneasy and wanted to find someone to rely on."

But I didn't expect you or my brother-in-law to do anything for me. My only wish is that if I run into some thugs, my brother-in-law will handle it fairly. That's all I'm hoping for.

"I don't mean to expect you and your brother-in-law to help me set up a stall."

"puff."

Lin Chuan's last sentence, coupled with his innocent expression, made Lin Hongmei laugh out loud. After laughing, she glanced at Lin Chuan:

"You're quite clever. Come in."

"Eh."

Lin Chuan quickly followed, carrying the bag. Despite his eloquent explanations to Lin Feng, he was actually quite inept at handling interpersonal relationships.

This is determined by personality, and a person's personality is very difficult to change. It's one's inherent nature, and it can't be changed just by being reborn.

So Lin Chuan decided to go straight to the point, and so far it's been working well. He had already decided before he came that if going straight to the point didn't work, then so be it, there was no need to keep trying.

After entering the house, Lin Hongmei poured Lin Chuan a glass of water. They chatted for a few moments, and then Lin Hongmei said:

"Xiao Chuan, we're kind of destined to meet, and you get along well with me. Let me be honest with you, if you're prepared to sell goods honestly and responsibly, then go ahead and do it without worry. Your brother-in-law and I will look after you."

But if you're planning to do something illegal or disorderly, your brother-in-law won't show any mercy; he'll personally arrest you.

Lin Hongmei is also playing a straightforward approach.

Compared to beating around the bush, this made Lin Chuan feel more at ease, since he wasn't planning on doing anything illegal.

If a reborn person needs to make money illegally, then they might as well not have been reborn at all.

"Sis, do I look like someone who breaks the law?"

"Okay, then I'll accept you as my younger brother. Stay for lunch."

"Okay."

Lin Hongmei brought over some fruit, and the two chatted for a while before Lin Hongmei got up and turned on the TV.

"Xiao Chuan, watch TV for a while, I'll go cook."

Lin Chuan responded and sat properly in the living room. He wanted to help, but the kitchen was small and it wasn't appropriate for him to go in. For a moment, only the sound of the television could be heard in the house.

Lin Chuan was bored when a door opened and the girl with glasses came out clutching her stomach. Seeing Lin Chuan sitting in the living room, she exclaimed in surprise:

"What are you doing in my house?"

"Your home?"

"Yeah, if it's not my house, is it yours?"

"Red songs, keep your voice down, what kind of behavior is that?"

Hearing the commotion, Lin Hongmei came out of the kitchen, glared at her daughter, and then introduced the two of them:

"This is my daughter, Liu Hongge, and this is Lin Chuan."

"Sister, you look only in your early twenties, yet you have such a grown daughter."

Lin Chuan's words made Lin Hongmei beam with joy, but before she could speak, Liu Hongge looked shocked:

"Sister? What do you call my mom?"

"Sister, your mom and I just became sworn siblings. What else should I call you if I don't call you sister?"

Liu Hongge looked at Lin Hongmei, and under her daughter's gaze, Lin Hongmei hesitated for a moment:

"Um, yeah, just call him, call him~"

Lin Hongmei didn't know what to say. When she chatted with Lin Chuan, his words and actions exuded maturity, making people forget his age.

But when he stood next to his daughter, he realized that he didn't seem that old.

"It's alright, you call me uncle, I'll call you sister, let's address each other separately."

Seeing his sister's predicament, Lin Chuan stepped forward and spoke up.

In the end, Lin Chuan didn't get a single "Uncle" in return. Liu Hongge glared at him, clutched her stomach, and ran into the bathroom, while Lin Hongmei went into the kitchen to continue cooking.

After a while, Liu Hongge came out with a flushed face. It was a bit embarrassing to use the toilet in front of a strange man in this day and age.

She came out and sat to the side without saying a word. Lin Chuan was happy to have some peace and quiet and focused on watching TV. It was the 83 version of The Legend of the Condor Heroes, and it was showing the scene where Hua Zheng was in tears.

"Brother Jing, I know you only have Rong'er in your heart, but I will not marry anyone else. I only have one question for you: will you agree to marry me or not?"

Guo Jing: "Hua Zheng, I can't promise you that. I've already promised Rong'er that I would take care of her for the rest of my life."

Alas, Guo Jing was foolish. In his youth, he did not know how good Hua Zheng was, and mistakenly regarded Huang Rong as a treasure.

"Hey, you really don't remember me?"

Just as he was getting into it, Liu Hongge asked this question again, and Lin Chuan replied irritably:

"I don't remember."

This tone angered Liu Hongge so much that she didn't speak to Lin Chuan again until it was time to eat.

"Dinner is ready."

"Sister, let me carry it, let me carry it."

"Sycophant."

Liu Hongge muttered under her breath, finally deciding not to let Lin Chuan serve the rice, and even less daring to let her mother serve it, and got up to go into the kitchen.

As she passed Lin Chuan, she glared at him again, leaving Lin Chuan bewildered. What had he done to offend her?

Lin Hongmei was also puzzled. She knew her daughter well; she was usually a bit arrogant, but not this petty. So, she asked directly:

"Hongge, what's wrong with you? Why are you being so rude? Why are you glaring at Xiaochuan?"

"Mom, we've clearly met before, but he pretended not to know me. Isn't that infuriating?"

"Hmm~ You two know each other?"

Lin Hongmei was in the kitchen and hadn't heard what the two were saying, so she looked completely bewildered.

Lin Chuan was even more confused. He had seen it before, but he had no recollection of where he had seen it.

Seeing Lin Chuan's expression, Liu Hongge became even angrier and gritted her teeth, saying:

"Sandaokou".
