Chapter 66 Wild Boars Fight in a Group
The little wild boar wasn't dead; it was just tired. When Lin Chuan picked it up, it struggled violently.
Lin Chuan thought it was too noisy, so he tied its mouth shut, preventing it from barking.
After removing the hammock from the tree, Lin Chuan led them to another hilltop, where there was another large herd of wild boars.
By the time they had finished setting up the hammock, digging the fire pit, and finding a water source, it was already past 11 a.m.
After eating a few pancakes, the group went to sleep. When they woke up again, it was a little after three in the afternoon.
"Chuanzi, what are we having for dinner?"
"Hey, you pig brother, eat me!"
Lin Chuan pointed to the little wild boar lying on the ground.
The little wild boar is a rare sight with a white belly and white hooves. It weighs only forty or fifty pounds and is not very big. It looks quite cute.
Lin Chuan had considered taking it back to raise; Lin Xue would definitely be fascinated by it, and there were no pigs at home, so the pigsty was empty.
After thinking about it, he decided against it. After all, this thing was a wild animal, and it wouldn't be worth it if it hurt Lin Xue.
So, we had no choice but to eat it.
Bleeding and burning the pig hair.
This was quite a lot of work; it took almost half an hour to burn off all the hair.
By the time the internal organs were removed and the rabbit was placed on the fire to roast, it was almost five o'clock. There was also a rabbit being roasted at the same time.
The group sat quietly by the fire, waiting for the rabbit to cook.
"Look, look! What did I catch?"
Wang Liang went to pee, and when he came back, he was making a big fuss. He put his palms together in a semi-circle and handed it over mysteriously.
"What? Let me see, let me see."
Wang Long leaned his head closer, but Wang Liang opened his palm.
In his palm lay a small, grayish-black beetle, its round head partially obscured by a pinkish-red hard shell on its back.
Below that are two large wings that cover the entire back.
When Wang Liang opened his palm, the little insect lifted its wings, revealing a shiny rear end.
"firefly."
Lin Chuan's eyes lit up; he couldn't remember the last time he'd seen this thing in so many years.
"Kawako, you like this thing?"
Wang Liang sensed the surprise in Lin Chuan's tone and poured the fireflies into his hand.
The little insects didn't fly; they just crawled around on his hand.
You only realize the value of something when you lose it. Sometimes you don't think much of fireflies, but you've seen them since you were a child.
But when they grow up, you can't find them anywhere. The same goes for the fish in the ditches. They're so abundant now, but in a few years, you won't even see fish the size of your palm anymore.
The group watched as the firefly crawled around in Lin Chuan's hand. When it reached the edge of his palm, Lin Chuan caught it with his other hand, and all four pairs of eyes were fixed on the insect.
Don't say that children are childish; when adults are bored, they can be just as childish as children.
Lin Chuan released the fireflies only after the rabbit was cooked, and the group began to eat the rabbit.
The roasted rabbit tasted mediocre and was a bit dry. Even though Lin Chuan used a small iron box for boiling water to render some lard and brushed it on, it couldn't stop the dryness.
The three of them ate very well. Wang Long had somehow managed to carve four bamboo swords, one for each of them.
He was gnawing on a rabbit leg in one hand and wielding a bamboo sword in the other, probably dreaming of becoming a great hero, with a strange smile on his face.
The wild rabbit wasn't very big, weighing about three or four pounds. After removing the fur, internal organs, and head, each person would only get about half a pound after roasting.
They were all young men, at the age when they could eat a lot. After eating, they felt like they had something to fill their stomachs, and they all stared longingly at the wild boar meat that was still being roasted.
After waiting for another ten minutes or so, the wild boar was roasted to a crisp.
Lin Chuan isn't omnipotent; he just watches a lot of videos and tries to copy them, but he didn't do a good job this time.
Fortunately, the wild boar meat was tender. After cutting off the charred parts, it actually tasted a bit better than rabbit.
The plates were made from the bulletproof metal plates that the three of them had used; Lin Chuan had prepared them for them before they set off.
But since the danger had been eliminated by Lin Chuan, this thing was naturally useless and was used by Lin Chuan as a plate.
Now that we have lard, we could try teppanyaki tomorrow.
After failing to roast the pig, Lin Chuan felt he needed to start with what he was good at: teppanyaki, which involves adding oil and salt, is actually quite similar to stir-frying.
Even after roasting, a pig weighing forty or fifty pounds would still weigh over thirty pounds (including the head, hooves, and bones), which was clearly more than a few people could eat.
Finally, it was hung in mid-air with a rope, ready to be eaten tomorrow. It was fumigated with mugwort and sprinkled with sulfur, so there was no fear of insects.
After finishing their meal, the group went to a small stream to wipe themselves down with their clothes and wash them as well, which counted as their post-meal activity.
Wang Long and Wang Liang woke up first at four o'clock. After waking Lin Chuan, they both finished relieving themselves and started eating.
The location this time is about one kilometer away, with a small hill in between. Lin Chuan spent more than ten minutes scouting the place last night, and the road is not easy to walk.
He led the way, his machete like a divine weapon, slicing through thick trees with a single stroke—no skill involved, just sheer strength.
"Hey, Chuanzi, is there some noise? I heard a pig squealing."
"Yes, there is. We'll find out soon enough."
Lin Chuan had already heard it; the pigs' squeals were particularly chaotic, rising and falling in a jumbled mess, accompanied by screams of agony.
He quickened his pace, leading Lin Feng and the other two straight towards the place where the pigs were squealing.
The sound wasn't coming from the spot Lin Chuan had scouted out last night; it was coming from a slightly lower location.
"Wait a minute, you guys stay here, don't leave, I'll go check on things."
The situation was unclear, so Lin Chuan told them to stay under a tree and climb up if things got worse.
Knowing Lin Chuan's abilities, the three of them didn't cause any trouble and even climbed up the tree on their own initiative.
Lin Chuan crept forward quietly by himself, not getting too close, and found a relatively tall tree to climb up.
When Lin Chuan went up to see what was going on, his mouth dropped open.
There are no bears, wolves, tigers, or leopards around here. When he heard the wild boar screaming, he thought it was a jackal.
Jackal Linchuan had never actually seen one before. He had heard from the old man that they used to exist, and the screams of wild boars immediately reminded him of this, which is why he was so cautious.
But to everyone's surprise, the wild boars' screams weren't from jackals, but from two groups of wild boars fighting.
He had never heard of this before, nor had he ever seen it in novels in his later years.
But the wild boars below were indeed fighting. There were more than a dozen wild boars on each side, charging and biting each other. Some of them were lying motionless.
This was a strange thing, and Lin Chuan watched it with great interest.
He noticed a large patch of strawberry bushes below, and the fight might have been caused by this (imagine wild strawberries).
It's estimated that another group of wild boars wandered over from somewhere and were eating the wild fruit in front of the original herd, which led to the conflict.
After watching for a while, Lin Chuan secretly slipped down the tree and found Lin Feng and the others. The three of them had been waiting impatiently, and as soon as they saw Lin Chuan, they grabbed him and asked:
"What's going on? What's going on? Why is the wild boar screaming? Is something there?"
"Nothing much, that's good," Lin Chuan explained briefly, his tone then filled with excitement:
"Hold your guns and come with me. This time we're really going to make it big."

I've never witnessed wild boars fighting, but it does happen, though it's very rare.
