Back to 1992, slingshot hunting skill points!

Chapter 69 The Hunting Operation Suspended

Lin Chuan has received three orders so far: one for 1900, one for 2850, and this one for 11020.

In just four days, he earned a huge sum of 15770.

As soon as the number came out, Lin Feng and his two friends became excited and walked with a swagger. Even after they got back and ate, they didn't stop making noise, keeping Lin Chuan awake.

"Hey you guys, if you can't sleep, go for a walk in the woods and pick some wild vegetables to eat tonight."

The salt is almost gone. Yesterday, Lin Chuan asked Lei Long to bring some more, along with a spatula, a bucket, rice, noodles, and some seasonings.

I underestimated things before and wasn't prepared enough, but this time I've made up for it all.

After the three left, Lin Chuan finally fell asleep in the quiet.

When Lin Chuan woke up, the guys were still asleep, and there was a pile of stuff under the tree.

Lin Chuan glanced at the contents: bitter lettuce, purslane, wild celery, and ginger (scientific name: *Gynostemma pentaphyllum*, which has red layers; we like to use this to make pickles).

The most obvious thing was that cage of river clams; they really had the perseverance and energy to run back from there to collect the shells.

Besides these, there was also a handful of wild wood ear mushrooms and a few lingzhi mushrooms; I don't know where they found them.

There are Ganoderma lucidum in the mountains where Lin Chuan and his group live, not too many but not too few either; they can occasionally find a few when they go up the mountain.

This thing has a big reputation, but Lin Chuan really didn't know its value, and he hadn't seen anyone come to buy it.

Seeing that they were all sleeping soundly, Lin Chuan didn't disturb them and took the things to the stream to deal with them.

It was already past four o'clock when they finished all this, so Lin Chuan started a fire to cook.

There was still some wild boar that had been roasted earlier that wasn't finished, so he cut it into small pieces and stir-fried it with wild celery, ginger, and wood ear mushrooms.

He stir-fried the bitter greens in a vegetarian style, and as for the purslane, he chopped it into small pieces and mixed it with river clams. The juice of this stuff is slightly sour after cooking, which is perfect for eating with river clams.

They woke up while Lin Chuan was stir-frying ginger, and now they're all watching eagerly from the side.

I didn't bring a bowl; those things break too easily. I used bamboo strips for serving food, made from bamboo as thick as a thigh split in two. They could hold much more than bowls or plates.

Lin Chuan served the food into bamboo trays, and they all began to swallow hard.

Lin Chuan's mouth was watering uncontrollably. Although he had been eating well these past few days, he hadn't had a single bite of stir-fried dishes or rice.

"Don't rush, there's one last dish."

Lin Chuan took out a clean sheet of iron, placed it over the fire, and waited for the oil to heat up before pouring the clam meat and purslane onto it. Instantly, it made a sizzling sound.

"Brother, what kind of way is this to eat it?"

"Teppanyaki is similar to stir-frying."

"It smells so good, Chuanzi. If I were a woman, I would definitely marry you."

"Get lost, I wouldn't even want to marry someone like you."

"Hey, what do you mean? I'm not bad-looking either. Even if I turned into a woman, I'd still be a beauty. Why don't you want to?"

"I saw you drooling in your sleep just now."

Wang Long: (-.-)

Amidst the laughter and playfulness, the clam meat began to change color. Lin Chuan moved the sheet metal to a nearby rock.

"Alright, let's eat."

The group immediately stopped arguing, picked up their bamboo bowls, started serving themselves rice, and began to eat diligently.

"Hey, Chuanzi, why did you only cook this little bit of rice? It's not even enough for me by myself."

"Eat less rice and more vegetables. If you want rice, I'll cook more tomorrow, and I'll stir-fry some bitter greens for you so you can eat your fill."

"That won't do; rice needs to be served with side dishes."

Wang Long chuckled awkwardly, then turned to eat the dishes. In the end, the four of them finished all the food.

Lin Chuan didn't have all the river mussels open; he put most of them, cages and all, back into the river. Otherwise, he would have been full just from eating the mussel meat.

These guys must have gone to sleep sometime earlier than Lin Chuan; they woke up two hours later than him. They were asleep when Lin Chuan went to sleep.

At four in the morning, I was woken up again by Wang Long and Wang Liang.

So having these two around is really great; they can even be used as alarm clocks.

"Kawako, how many are you planning to hunt today?"

Lin Chuan was taken aback, and said with a mix of amusement and exasperation:

"Do you think I own this mountain and raise all the wild boars, so I can hunt as many as I want?"

"Hehe, almost, almost."

Since following Lin Chuan up the mountain, I haven't been empty-handed, especially after yesterday's mountain of wild boar carcasses.

The way they looked at Lin Chuan now was incredibly certain; in their minds, how much they hunted depended entirely on Lin Chuan's mood.

Ignoring the three mentally unstable individuals, Lin Chuan led them westward after relieving himself of the water, where a herd of five or six wild boars was located.

The road wasn't far; it would only take half an hour to get there. As usual, Lin Chuan left them behind while he went to find the wild boar; he could move faster by himself.

However, after searching for an hour, Lin Chuan couldn't find a single hair.

The last time I used the boar king's sense of smell was four days ago, so it's normal for the wild boar's location to have changed a bit in such a long time.

Since he had enough reward points, Lin Chuan didn't dwell on it and activated the Pig King's Sense of Smell card that he had drawn before but hadn't used it.

Instantly, all sorts of smells filled Lin Chuan's nose.

To his dismay, this herd of wild boars actually went to the spot where the two groups of wild boars had fought the day before.

Silently noting down the location of the wild boars around them, Lin Chuan returned and led Lin Feng and the others back to the location from yesterday.

"Brother, didn't we come here yesterday?"

"Hmm, now there's another group of wild boars here, probably attracted by the smell of blood."

Hearing Lin Chuan say this, the three of them didn't ask how Lin Chuan knew, and followed Lin Chuan forward.

But halfway there, Lin Chuan stopped:

"You wait here. If anything happens, climb the tree. Whatever you do, don't fire."

After saying that, Lin Chuan took off running in one direction.

The reason he left Lin Feng and the others behind was because he smelled someone's scent, and this person shouldn't be here.

Normally, you can't smell a person's odor, except in special cases, such as body odor.

Previously at the government building, Lin Chuan smelled body odor on someone, but this person was not in the hunting team organized by the government.

Now, the other party appears here at dawn, with another person with them, which is very unusual.

Lin Chuan was extremely fast, but the other party wasn't actually on the mountain; they were by the roadside (behind a dirt slope). When Lin Chuan arrived, he could only see two bicycles heading in different directions.

Too late.

Lin Chuan thought about it and decided not to chase after them. They would be too conspicuous on the road and it would be easy to alert them.

He memorized their scents and returned to the mountain.

Using the same familiar method, Lin Chuan stood on the mountaintop and shot arrows first. As the wild boar ran down the mountain, Lin Feng and the others fired their guns. Lin Chuan watched the wild boar's trajectory from the mountain and surrounded it in advance.

With his archery skills and strength, as long as he isn't blocked by trees, wild boars within two hundred meters would have a hard time escaping.

This was still limited by the bow; otherwise, Lin Chuan could have shot much farther.

Finally, they harvested five wild boars, weighing over 1,200 jin (approximately 600 kg).

Lin Feng and his team were already very familiar with the procedures of bandaging and bloodletting.

When they pulled it to the roadside, Lei Long hadn't arrived yet. When he did, his first words were:

"Brother Lin, you have to come back with me. The hunting trip is on hold."

(Thanks to my two godfathers, Tear Night Regrets With the Wind and Starry Sky, for the monthly tickets. (The character "龗" is really hard to find; I searched for ages.)

I wasn't asking for votes yesterday. Actually, not being on the monthly vote leaderboard is pretty useless; I was just happy to see it.

Yesterday, the data didn't change at all (I guess everyone went out to play), which is why I posted that sentence.

Writing a novel without comments or data is really tough. You don't even know if anyone is reading it or if there are any problems.

Feel free to share your thoughts, everyone, or cast one recommendation vote every day—just one vote is enough to let me know someone is here, and that will make me happy all day.

Finally, thank you to everyone who voted for this book and to all the readers who have followed it this far. Love you all! (Heart emoji)
