Marvel: Starting with Iron Man in the Apocalypse

Chapter 100 Underground Transactions

Batman appeared like a phantom at the entrance to the underground base, his black cape fluttering slightly in the dim light. The Penguin's henchmen immediately raised their weapons, but the Penguin waved them off.

"Relax, boys," the Penguin said, feigning composure. "This is the guardian of Gotham, he won't do anything to us...right, Batman?"

Batman's gaze swept across the room, finally settling on Chen Haotian: "What agreement did you reach with Cobblestone?"

Chen Haotian calmly stepped forward: "It's simply a mutually beneficial deal. Mr. Copperfield provides us with local intelligence, and we ensure his safety in return."

"Gotham doesn't need outsiders interfering in its internal affairs," Batman said, his voice as cold as ice.

Tony couldn't help but interject, "Listen, we're not here to cause trouble. We have our own goals, and we'll leave once we've achieved them."

Batman turned to Tony: "The CEO of Stark Industries, what are you doing in Gotham's underground crime scene?"

Tony raised an eyebrow: "How do you know who I am?"

"Your identity isn't hard to find," Batman said, "but your true purpose is the key."

Chen Haotian interrupted their conversation: "Mr. Wayne, let's be frank. We know you've collected a considerable amount of alien technology, and we need certain items from some of it. In exchange, we can provide technology far beyond our current era."

Batman paused for a moment: "Come with me."

Led by Batman, they traversed several hidden passages and arrived at a more concealed underground space. It resembled a temporary base, with walls covered in various surveillance equipment and data analysis screens.

"It's safer to talk here," Batman said. "Now, tell me exactly what you want."

Chen Haotian took out a list from his pocket: "It mainly consists of fragments of Kryptonian technology, and some ancient artifacts from Paradise Island."

Batman took the list, his brow furrowing slightly beneath his mask. "These things are extremely dangerous; I can't just hand them over to people of unknown origin."

“We are not of unknown origin,” Fury began, “we are visitors from another world, with peaceful intentions.”

Batman was clearly skeptical of the claim: "Another world?"

Tony activated the holographic projection on his arm, displaying the energy readings from their journey: "Look at these numbers. This isn't the kind of energy signature any known technology on Earth could produce."

Batman studied the data on the projection carefully for a long time before speaking: "Even if what you're saying is true, why should I believe you?"

"Because we can provide what you urgently need," Chen Haotian said, "such as solutions to Gotham's energy crisis, or more effective crime prevention systems."

Just then, the base's alarm sounded again. Batman quickly pulled up a surveillance feed, showing that the Iceberg Club was under attack.

"The people of Falcone," the Penguin said nervously, "they've found my club."

Batman turned to Chen Haotian: "Prove your sincerity. Help resolve this crisis, and then we can talk about a deal."

Chen Haotian exchanged a glance with Tony, then nodded: "Deal."

They quickly devised a plan of action. Batman was responsible for direct confrontation, while Tony provided remote technical support. Chen Haotian and Fury protected the Penguin while simultaneously looking for an opportunity to counterattack.

Tony summoned his Iron Man armor, the red metallic suit standing out starkly in the dimly lit basement. "Jarvis, scan the entire area and mark all hostile targets."

"27 heat source signals have been detected, sir," the AI calmly responded.

Batman glanced at Tony's armor, a flicker of surprise in his eyes, but he quickly regained his professional composure: "I'll flank them from the east to draw their attention. You guys then take the opportunity to flank them from the west."

Chen Haotian took several small devices out of his equipment bag and handed them to Fury: "These are energy jammers; they can temporarily disable their electronic devices."

The Penguin, observing their preparations, suddenly spoke up: "Wait, I know a secret passage that leads directly to the club's control room. If we can control the systems there, we can seize the initiative."

Batman thought for a moment: "Lead the way."

Guided by the penguin, they descended to the lower level of the Iceberg Club via a more concealed passage. The soundproofing here was excellent; the gunshots and fighting sounds from above were barely audible.

"The control room is just ahead," the Penguin said, pointing to a door at the end of the corridor, "but there are usually two guards."

Fury moved silently to the door and peered through the crack to observe the interior: "There are indeed two, both carrying heavy weapons."

Chen Haotian took out two miniature tranquilizer darts: "Let me do it."

He gently rolled the tranquilizer dart through the crack in the door, and a few seconds later, two dull thuds came from inside. Fury quickly pushed the door open and, after confirming it was safe, signaled the others to follow.

The control room was filled with monitoring screens and control systems. Tony immediately began operating them: "Jarvis, take over the systems here."

"Breaking the firewall... Control gained."

Through the surveillance footage, they could see Batman dealing with Falcone's henchmen. His movements were clean and efficient, each strike precisely subduing an enemy.

"Looks like our Dark Knight doesn't need any help," Tony commented. "However, I've noticed a few guys making their way to the basement."

Chen Haotian pulled up the basement surveillance footage: "What are they looking for?"

The penguin's face suddenly turned pale: "My vault! There are...some sensitive documents there."

Batman's voice came through the communicator: "Stop them. Those documents can't fall into Falcone's hands."

Chen Haotian and Fury acted immediately, heading towards the basement via another passage. When they arrived, they saw several of Falcone's men attempting to blow open the vault door.

"Stop!" Fury shouted, raising his gun and aiming.

The thugs were clearly caught off guard by someone appearing from behind and were momentarily flustered. But they quickly began to fight back.

Chen Haotian activated his specially made energy shield, blocking the incoming bullets. At the same time, he released several small drones, which quickly flew towards the rioters, releasing high-voltage electricity.

A few minutes later, all the rioters were subdued. Chen Haotian walked to the vault and checked the lock: "A password and fingerprint are required."

The penguin arrived just then, quickly entering the password and placing his palm on the scanner. The vault door slowly opened.

Inside, besides piles of cash and jewelry, there was a special safe. The penguin carefully opened it and took out a document.

"These are records of transactions between Falcone and certain government officials," the Penguin explained. "If these are exposed, many people will suffer."

Batman, having finished the fight, went to the basement. He took the documents and quickly scanned them: "This evidence is enough to completely dismantle Falcone and his protective network."

Tony said through the communicator, "I've notified Chief Gordon; the police are on their way."

Batman looked at Chen Haotian: "You've proven your sincerity. Tomorrow morning at ten o'clock, come to Wayne Tower, and we'll discuss the deal in detail."

By the time the police arrived, Chen Haotian and his group had already left through a secret passage. Back at their temporary base, Penguin was noticeably more relaxed.

"It seems we really can cooperate," the Penguin said. "I know there are a few other places in Gotham that might hold the alien technology you need."

Chen Haotian smiled: "That would be perfect. But first, we need your introduction to the underground arms trading network in the Eastern District."

The penguin grinned slyly. "That's easy. There's an important trade fair tomorrow night, and I can take you. But..." he paused, "the people there aren't as easy to deal with as those in Falcone."

Tony scoffed: "What's there to worry about? We have state-of-the-art technology."

"Technology isn't everything," Fury cautioned. "In that world, trust and relationships are far more important."

Chen Haotian nodded: "Frey is right. We need to be careful and avoid attracting too much attention."

The penguin produced an invitation: "This is an invitation to tomorrow's trade fair. It will be held at an abandoned warehouse in the port area at 10 PM. Remember, do not bring any visible weapons; there will be strict security checks."

Tony looked at the invitation: "Looks like tomorrow night is going to be interesting."

Chen Haotian put away the invitation, a calculating glint in his eyes: "Indeed. This could be an excellent opportunity for us to infiltrate Gotham's underworld."

Night fell, and Gotham's neon lights flickered in the rain, as if telling the city's untold secrets. But for Chen Haotian, the game had only just begun.
