Marvel: Starting with Iron Man in the Apocalypse

On the seventh basement level of Stark Tower, the dedicated laboratory codenamed "Prometheus" is now fully operational. The silver-gray alloy walls gleam with a cold sheen, and the air circulation system hums almost imperceptibly, ensuring the highest level of cleanliness within. The laboratory is clearly divided into several areas: the core is a virus analysis zone with multiple layers of physical and energy isolation; next to it is an energy research zone with the highest level of energy shielding; and a separate vault, temporarily sealed and reinforced with multiple layers of magical suppression fields.

Chen Haotian stood in front of the control panel in the virus analysis area, wearing a specially made white protective suit. Although the laboratory's level of automation was sufficient to allow them to avoid personally handling any dangerous samples, the highest level of protection was a principle Tony insisted on. Tony, on the other hand, was wearing his signature black vest and busy in the adjacent energy research area, where complex data and simulations about the void energy crystals were constantly scrolling on the holographic screen.

"Jarvis, begin the first phase of remote analysis," Chen Haotian commanded, his voice clearly transmitted through the built-in communicator. "Perform non-destructive spectral scanning and preliminary gene sequencing modeling on samples T-001 to T-015, and cross-reference them with databases of all known viruses, bacteria, and prions worldwide."

"Instruction confirmed, Mr. Chen."

Several high-precision scanners descended from the ceiling of the analysis area, emitting soft beams of light that enveloped the virus sample tubes and biological tissue slides sealed within specially designed isolation chambers. A massive amount of data began to flood Jarvis's processing core and rapidly refreshed on the main holographic screen in front of Chen Haotian.

Time ticked by, the only sounds in the lab being the faint hum of the equipment and Tony's occasional taps on the virtual keyboard. Chen Haotian stared intently at the screen, his studious instincts allowing him to quickly spot anomalies in the data stream.

"Interesting..." Chen Haotian suddenly spoke up, attracting Tony's attention.

"What did you find?" Tony didn't leave his position, but he brought up a shared screen and looked at the data on Chen Haotian's side.

"At first glance, its structure resembles that of a retrovirus, but the stability of its genetic material far exceeds that of any known virus, even violating some basic molecular biology principles." Chen Haotian magnified a rotating virus model with his finger, highlighting several key structures. "Look here, its protein coat exhibits an atypical tendency to crystallize, which may be one of the reasons why it can maintain its activity for a long time in the external environment."

Tony glanced at it and raised an eyebrow: "This doesn't sound like something natural evolution could produce."

"More crucially, it's its invasion mechanism." Chen Haotian switched the display, bringing up an animation of cell invasion based on scan data. "Unlike ordinary viruses that rely on specific cell surface receptors, its envelope proteins... possess a peculiar 'universality' or 'coercivity,' capable of mimicking multiple signaling molecules, deceiving and forcibly prying open the cell membranes of the vast majority of eukaryotic cells. This mechanism is almost impossible to exist within our biological framework."

In the animation, the distorted virus particles, as if they were alive, easily broke through the simulated human cell defenses and injected their own genetic material into them.

"This means that it has the potential to infect the vast majority of mammals, and possibly even birds and reptiles," Chen Haotian summarized, his tone grave. "The transmission routes are also far beyond what we previously knew. In addition to conventional bodily fluid transmission, theoretically, high concentrations of aerosols could also cause infection."

Tony whistled, adopting the critical tone of an engineer reviewing a poorly designed design: "The guy who designed this thing is either a genius or a madman. It's frighteningly efficient."

"And then there's its mutagenicity." Chen Haotian pulled up another set of data, based on Wesker's team's previous research records, combined with deductions made using Jarvis's supercomputing power. "Under specific environmental pressures, such as host herd immunity, extreme physical conditions, or... exposure to certain special energies, its gene sequence will undergo directed mutations at an almost 'programmed' speed. This is no longer simple natural selection; it's more like a... biological weapon with multiple evolutionary pre-plans built in."

He pointed to the endpoints of several mutation models: "Look at these, the 'Tyrant' pathway that enhances muscle strength and bone density; the 'Hunter' pathway that improves nerve conduction speed and swarm collaboration; and even this... the 'Intelligent' pathway that tends to retain some intelligence and develop special biological abilities. It's too deliberate."

Tony finally put down the energy simulation he was holding, walked over, and stood beside Chen Haotian, carefully examining the unsettling models. "So, what we brought back might not be an accidental leak of natural disaster, but a meticulously crafted weapon designed for biological extinction or reshaping?"

"The probability is extremely high." Chen Haotian closed the oppressive mutation model and pulled up the final comparison report. "The most fundamental difference is that Jarvis has completed the preliminary comparison with all known pathogens in the Marvel universe."

On the holographic screen, a huge red "No Match" sign is clearly visible.

"Zero match." Chen Haotian emphasized, "Not only are the gene sequences completely dissimilar, but their basic molecular structure, energy signature, and even certain microscopic physical rules upon which their existence depends are fundamentally different from pathogens in our universe at the dimensional level."

He zoomed in on a comparison chart of energy signatures. On one side were extremely faint but distinctive energy ripples emitted by a zombie virus sample, and on the other side were the energy signatures of several of the most dangerous viruses in the Marvel universe (including the gamma radiation infection sample from Bruce Banner that Tony had secretly collected earlier). The two ripple curves were completely different, as if they came from two completely unrelated musical instruments.

"Look here," Chen Haotian pointed to several unnatural peaks and breaks in the zombie virus's energy ripples, "This regular 'unnaturalness' further confirms its artificial synthesis. Moreover, this energy signature... gives me a vague sense of familiarity."

Tony crossed his arms, his brow furrowed. "Familiar? Have you seen something similar on any post-apocalyptic film set before?"

"No, it's not that kind of familiarity." Chen Haotian shook his head slightly, his gaze becoming profound, as if he were sensing something. "It's more like a...systemic connection. Remember the magical fluctuations emitted by that DC metal fragment? Although their natures are completely different—one leaning towards death and decay, the other towards a certain higher order—they share a subtle commonality in their 'alienation.' They both carry a kind of 'mark' that doesn't belong to the framework of rules in our world."

This discovery made the atmosphere in the lab even more somber. If the virus and the metal fragments originated from the same level or related "external" sources, then things are far more complicated than a simple parallel universe travel story.

"Okay, at least there's some good news." Tony tried to break the dull atmosphere. "Based on the data from Wesker's team that you brought back, plus Jarvis's simulations, this virus's infectivity is greatly reduced, or even ineffective, against purely mechanical and electronic devices, and... most likely against individuals with strong energy protection, like me in my armor, or someone like you with your rune energy at full power."

"Yes," Chen Haotian nodded, "this is also one of the keys to our survival in that world. Its 'universality' is not absolute; it is still limited by the premise of a certain 'biological substrate'."

He closed all analysis interfaces and looked at Tony: "Despite the enormous risks, Tony, you must admit that this virus holds immense research value. It's not just a cautionary tale against biological weapons; more importantly, it represents a completely different logic of life operation based on the rules of another world. Analyzing it could help us understand more possibilities for life forms, and even achieve breakthroughs in genetic engineering, bio-enhancement, and even combating certain diseases based on the rules of this universe (like the Extremis virus?)."

Tony remained silent for a moment, gazing at the sealed, quiet, yet ominous sample chambers. His inner turmoil clashed fiercely with his desire to explore as a scientist and engineer, and his sense of responsibility as a superhero.

"Risk and reward go hand in hand, it's a cliché." Finally, he sighed, his eyes sharpening again. "But we can't be reckless. Jarvis, make the virus research project the highest priority for 'Prometheus,' but all physical experiments must be authorized by both Chen and me, and can only be carried out after at least three rounds of safe simulations in a virtual environment. At the same time, initiate research on the 'Anti-T' (Anti-Otherworldly Pathogen) contingency plan. I want to see at least three theoretically effective technological solutions to suppress or eliminate this virus, including but not limited to specific nanorobots, broad-spectrum energy disinfection fields, and... purification methods based on void energy."

Chen Haotian's lips curved upwards almost imperceptibly. He knew that Tony had fully recognized the value of these "otherworldly resources" and was beginning to act in his usual proactive manner. This adventure across worlds brought back not only risks, but also the key to countless possibilities. And the first step in unlocking that key had already been taken.

He removed his protective suit and walked to the observation window of the laboratory, looking down at the lights of New York. His mind, however, was already focused on how to transform the knowledge of this otherworldly virus into tangible power, whether for protection or… other purposes more aligned with his cunning schemes. The virus analysis had only just begun, but it was revealing a far broader and more dangerous multiverse landscape than he had imagined.
