Faerûn: Lord of the Eternal Sun

Chapter 10 The Mastermind

"Something's not right. You guys go out and check it out."

The gangsters in the tavern's lobby remained on guard for several minutes, but outside, all was calm and dark, like a gaping maw ready to devour life.

One member went upstairs to report the situation, while four or five thugs carrying weapons and oil lamps approached the door, intending to check if there was any danger or ambush outside.

After the group cautiously walked out of the tavern, they disappeared. Just as the leader of the gang in the hall approached with his remaining men, a fierce battle cry suddenly erupted from outside.

With a loud crash, the half-closed door shattered, and a henchman who had gone out to scout the situation fell heavily to the ground, his chest ripped open by a sharp blade, his internal organs spilling out onto the floor.

Two of his underlings fled in disarray, when a tall, burly figure appeared, wielding a heavy scimitar and shield. He chased the two into the tavern's main hall and hacked them to the ground.

"Isaac!!"

"Why? Our gang has no grudge against you!"

The junior leader recognized him; he had watched his martial arts competition a few days ago and cheered for his bravery. He never expected that they would become enemies so quickly.

Isaac didn't explain, unsure whether the other party genuinely didn't know or was pretending. He roared and charged towards the remaining eleven gang members.

"Kill him! He's all alone."

The henchman roared, ordering his underlings to step forward, while he himself quietly took two steps back.

……

In the tavern's main hall, Isaac uses the pillars and table cards to his advantage as he fights against the menacing gang members.

The golden pupil between his brows had opened, and he could feel his body temperature rising rapidly and his heart pounding violently, providing powerful energy to his body.

These opponents were individually quite strong, almost on par with a soldier from the Yellow Sands, though slightly inferior in combat skills.

From Golden Eyes' perspective, Isaac sensed that the enemies were moving slower and slower, and that they were starting to dodge or use their shields to block as soon as they launched their attacks.

It's so easy!

Isaac had never thought that fighting was so easy.

If an ordinary person possessed such extraordinary dynamic vision, they would be able to hold their own against an experienced warrior, let alone Isaac, who is a veteran warrior with over a decade of combat experience.

Easily dodging the axe blade attack from the side, Isaac, tall and strong, swung his weapon to counterattack while the opponent was momentarily stunned by the attack.

The heavy scimitar whistled past, easily tearing through the enemy's clothes, skin, and flesh with the added strength of Isaac's terrifying brute force; even hard bones snapped under the heavy blade.

The henchman hiding in the back looked like he'd seen a ghost, watching helplessly as Isaac easily cut down seven or eight of his companions. He screamed, dropped his short sword, and fled in a sorry state toward the back door of the tavern.

Two or three other gang members also lost their will to fight, terrified by their powerful opponent, and followed suit, quickly fleeing the tavern.

Isaac didn't chase after them. He looked towards the stone steps, panting, and stopped to rest for a bit, also trying to control his body temperature so it wouldn't rise too high.

In the cold of the night, the breath exhaled forms a white mist, which is the hot air and moisture from the lungs.

After a short rest of about ten seconds, I walked towards the stairwell in the corner.

According to intelligence, the gang leader Black Fist should be on the third floor. Isaac strode up the stairs, but was ambushed at the corner on the third floor.

It was the same gang member who tipped them off earlier. He was a ruthless character, a wanderer in combat, quietly hiding around the corner, his body perfectly blending into the dark environment.

[Sneak attack]

This is an essential ability for wanderers, enabling them to deliver a fatal blow to unsuspecting enemies.

However, Isaac's divine eyes remained open, narrowly avoiding a fatal attack on his neck, leaving only a knife wound about ten centimeters long on his left shoulder.

The wanderer was surprised that his sure-fire sneak attack had failed. He pushed off the ground to retreat and escape, but Isaac's shield suddenly knocked him away, and he crashed hard into the wall.

Before he could regain his balance, Isaac smashed his skull with a heavy blow.

I felt a tingling sensation in my shoulder wound; the person opposite me had coated the dagger with a paralyzing toxin.

Isaac put down his scimitar, reached out and squeezed the wound, squeezing out some of the poisonous blood.

"It's nothing serious."

Their gaze returned to the room at the end of the passage, where candlelight shone through and the door was ajar.

Armed with his weapon and shield, Isaac slowly approached the room, using his left arm and shield to pry open the door, where he witnessed a somewhat unexpected scene.

There were three burly men inside the room. One of the older men was tied up and had a rag stuffed in his mouth. When he saw Isaac at the door, he stammered and shouted, but couldn't say anything.

The other two burly men held weapons in one hand and spread their other hand out, making a gesture that indicated no hostility.

"Isaac, it was all the underground boxing boss's orders, it has nothing to do with us. I'll hand him over to you, and we'll be even. How about it?"

As they spoke, the two men shoved the bound man, knocking him to the ground in front of Isaac.

Isaac cautiously crouched down, removed the wad of cloth from his mouth, and asked:

"So you're involved in underground boxing? If you tell me who sent you to cause me trouble, I'll spare your life."

The underground boxing boss had a complex expression, showing fear of life and death, anger at being betrayed, and finally, he put on a desperate look.

"I admit defeat. I know I'm not going to live today. Go ahead and do it."

As he spoke, he kept his eyes on the other two leaders in the room, knowing that even if Isaac let him go, the two would definitely kill him to silence him.

Isaac keenly observed his gaze and decided to give him another chance.

"If you reveal that person's identity, I will let you go and rescue you."

These words struck a nerve with the underground boxing boss. Seeing a sliver of hope for survival, he didn't hesitate to betray the person behind him.

"It was the Lancaras family. You killed Davis on the day of the Shield Festival tournament, which directly offended them. That's why I had to get rid of you."

"I've already told you, now take me away."

"it is good."

As expected, it was the Lancaras family. Upon receiving the news, Isaac immediately got up and left.

The underground boxing boss, left on the ground, looked at the two gang leaders with a look of despair.

"According to the rules of the underworld, I've done my duty to you all these years. Please, both of you, spare my family."

The two leaders did not answer; perhaps silence was their answer. With fierce expressions, they walked to the black boxing boss's side and used their weapons to send him on his way.

……

Isaac returned to the blacksmith's shop to treat his wound. Perhaps due to his solar bloodline, the effects of the paralyzing toxin quickly wore off, and the wound stopped bleeding, requiring no further bandaging.

"Lancalas!"

Isaac's face was gloomy. Dealing with gang members was relatively easy; he just needed to storm into the slums and kill them all. But dealing with this old nobleman was more troublesome; revenge wouldn't be so simple.

After all, they lived in the heavily guarded Upper City and were high-ranking military officers, so their noble residences must have had a lot of guards.

"It seems they still have some sense of dignity and didn't send guards to deal with me directly."

"Indeed, Davis was killed by me during the Holy Tournament. If they were to retaliate openly, it would certainly incite public outrage and might even lead to the intervention of the temple priests. After all, such an act would seriously violate the absolute justice of the Sun Law."

"Just you wait! You sore loser."
