Faerûn: Lord of the Eternal Sun

Chapter 16 Negotiation, Decisions, and Battle

In the desert, even the camels sensed the danger and quickened their pace, but several hundred meters behind them, two desert hyenas were always lurking in the distance.

"Looks like trouble is coming our way."

Antontans sighed, and a wanderer beside him squinted and asked, "Could it be a pack of hyenas?"

"no!"

Isaac behind him gave a negative answer, and all the sandwalkers around looked over, asking curiously, "How did you know?"

"These two hyenas don't look fierce enough; they must be domesticated."

Isaac's dynamic and static vision has become extremely sharp. He can read the eyes of a desert hyena from hundreds of meters away. It is a gentle look, just like that of a sand dog.

The female druid exchanged a subtle glance with Antontans and nodded, clearly satisfied with his performance.

……

More than half an hour later, the real culprit finally appeared.

After the adventurers crossed the sand dunes, they encountered a large group of dwarfs, who were approaching alongside their leader riding a camel; there were about twenty of them.

"It's a medium-sized goblin tribe!" the crowd couldn't help but exclaim.

Yes, goblins also exist in the desert. These resilient creatures, like rats, are found throughout the entire continent of Faerûn.

Unlike their green-skinned relatives in the forest, the goblins before them had a yellowish-brown complexion, blending seamlessly into the desert landscape.

Standing only about 1.2 meters tall, with pointed ears and fangs, they are thin but have obvious muscle lines. Having lived in the desert for a long time, their feet have evolved to be wide and thick, adapting to the shifting desert terrain.

The desert goblins that appeared wore only animal skins around their waists, exposing the rough skin of their torsos and limbs. Their weapons were scimitars and wooden clubs, and two or three of them carried short swords and small round shields.

Their leader was a large goblin shaman riding a camel, whose weapons and equipment looked much better. He wore hard leather armor and carried a staff and a kite-shaped shield.

High goblins are an elite variant of the goblin race, much larger than ordinary goblins, almost the size of Isaac, and often hold leadership positions in the tribe.

Looking at the goblin leader before him, could he be a rare spellcaster? His appearance and extremely developed muscles made Isaac suspect that the long staff in his hand could be used for both ranged and melee combat.

The two sides were only twenty or thirty meters apart. The desert ranger with a short beard took out arrows from the quiver on the side of the camel, nocked them on the wooden bow, and prepared to shoot.

In the event of battle, he would immediately transform into a guerrilla marksman, using a camel as a kite-like weapon.

Both sides were relatively restrained and did not immediately start shouting for battle. The goblins spread out and formed a semi-encircling formation.

The goblin chieftain, who was both a chieftain and a shaman, stepped forward and attempted to negotiate in the common language of the continent.

"Sandwalkers, hand over half of your supplies and gold, and the great 'Ratchet Tribe' will spare your lives."

Isaac remained silent, waiting for Antonsen's reply.

If he was unwilling to fight the goblin tribe, Isaac would definitely turn around and run away, abandoning this commission.

It's not that they're unwilling to part with half of the supplies, but rather that they're a captain lacking decisiveness, who is highly likely to make wrong decisions that could lead to deaths during subsequent adventures.

As an experienced captain, Antontans decisively rejected the earthbill chieftain's proposal.

"What kind of tribe is this? Get the hell out of here, or don't even think about going back."

When encountering goblins, creatures that bully the weak and fear the strong, only a tough stance can possibly make them back down and avoid an unnecessary battle.

The captain's reply heightened tensions, and the two desert hyenas kept by the goblin tribe barked wildly.

The female druid's animal companion, the desert monitor lizard, stares intently at them with its cold, vertical pupils. In the event of a fight, its first target will be those two damned hyenas.

"Sandwalkers, you have successfully angered the great 'Ratchet Horde'!"

Bloodlust Technique

The goblin chieftain, devoid of martial ethics, unleashed a second-circle spell before he had even finished speaking, inflicting a bloodlust effect on the surrounding goblins.

The goblins, having received the magical buff, swelled in size and their expressions became ferocious.

The most significant change was seen in the two desert hyenas, whose eyes were now red and their throats were emitting low growls, a return to their wild nature.

The Desert Ranger reacted with lightning speed, raising his hand to fire an arrow at the Shaman, but it was blocked by the Goblin's shield.

"For the great Ratchet tribe, charge!!"

The battle had begun, and the goblins, with their numerical advantage, charged forward howling.

Isaac dismounted from the camel; the enemies were too short to reach while riding it.

He was paid to do the job, and this concerned his professional reputation, so he charged forward with his heavy scimitar and shield.

The other Sandwalkers also began to fight. Before the battle started, not only did the enemy not know each other's combat strength, but even their teammates did not know each other's combat strength level, except for the few fixed members of the Sandblade Adventurer Group.

The two sides quickly approached, and Isaac discovered that three goblins were simultaneously targeting him.

Fueled by the Bloodlust spell, they knew no fear whatsoever, charging forward with wooden clubs and scimitars in hand.

With his long reach, Isaac swung his heavy scimitar down, the whistling blade cleaving a goblin in two from left shoulder to right waist. Flesh and bone along the way could not stop it in the slightest, and internal organs spilled onto the ground.

Then, flap your shield to knock down the enemy on the left, take a step back, use agile footwork to avoid the third goblin's light scimitar, and take advantage of the moment when the opponent's attack misses to kick him away.

The kick was powerful and heavy; the goblin, who weighed only fifty or sixty pounds, was sent flying a full six meters away and couldn't get up for a while.

The goblin, who had been knocked to the ground by the shield, had just gotten up when he saw the blade getting closer and closer. Then, most of his flat head was split open, and murky liquid even splashed onto Isaac's clothes.

These goblins were no match for the core members of the Black Fist Brotherhood, and they were no match for Isaac. Four or five of them were killed in no time.

While Isaac was wreaking havoc, on the other side, the female druid and the goblin shaman were throwing fire arrows at each other.

A ring of flaming arrows flew out, covering a distance of more than twenty meters and hitting the target.

The goblin shaman blocked with his shield, which then burst into magical flames. He promptly chose to discard it.

The female druid, on the other hand, used Wilderness Shapeshifting, transforming into a vicious hound in the moment of crisis, narrowly avoiding the fire arrow.

The vicious, two-headed hounds began tearing at the goblins.

The desert ranger aimed his arrow at the goblin chieftain, but after losing his shield, the chieftain immediately dismounted from his camel and hid behind it.

The camel, struck by an arrow in its hump, cried out in pain and took off running with its broad hooves, disappearing from sight in no time.

The desert monitor lizard and two desert hyenas were locked in a fierce battle, leaving the lizard with numerous wounds.

The toxin from the monitor lizard's mouth entered the hyena's body through the wound and was rapidly taking effect, gradually turning the tables and gaining the upper hand.

After Isaac killed a goblin, he charged toward the goblin chieftain who had neither a shield nor a camel.

Only a few minutes into the battle, the goblins realized that their forces were no match for them and hurriedly ran away.

As the goblins' bloodlust gradually faded, seeing their leader flee, their morale completely collapsed, and they lost all desire to fight, also running away in all directions.
