Faerûn: Lord of the Eternal Sun

Chapter 24 Communication and Delegation

Inside the palace, two figures rolled and entangled on the soft bed, their suppressed moans echoing throughout the room.

The battle, which lasted for one or two hours, did not end until the golden sun set in the west.

Having vented his anger, Isaac got up and the first thing he did was gulp down his tea.

I realize I still lack self-control; after only an hour in the small garden, I couldn't resist the temptation and ended up taking Tessa into the room.

There were obvious sweat stains on the bed. Isaac brought over tea and helped the limp Tessa sit up to feed her.

The two lay back down on the bed, snuggling together, enjoying a rare moment of relaxation.

"Tessa, I plan to close the blacksmith shop after I finish processing the backlog of orders in a while."

Isaac stroked her smooth shoulders and neck, feeling a renewed reaction; it seemed the past few days of desert exploration had been too oppressive.

Tessa looked languid, her golden hair loose. After noticing the slight change, she reached out and restrained it.

Why?

The noblewoman nestled against his chest couldn't help but smile, believing that the two blacksmith shops she had hired had worked, and that the man had finally changed his mind and decided to stay by her side.

However, on the surface, he still pretended not to know and increased the intensity of his movements to express his inner joy.

Isaac hissed and explained, "The high priest of the Church of the Sun invited me to become a paladin."

"What?!"

Tessa let out a short scream, and her grip on her wrist made Isaac cry out in pain.

She was somewhat frustrated that her long-planned scheme had come to nothing.

"Um...aren't you happy for me?"

Isaac was puzzled; he simply couldn't fathom what women were thinking.

Tessa looked up at him with her clear, large eyes, and forced a smile as she explained:

"I'm happy for you, of course, but you need to think carefully. Once you make a vow before Amannata, breaking it later could lead to your utter ruin. I think you should consider this carefully."

"No need to think about it. As long as I can get into the Church of the Sun, it won't be so easy for the Lancaras family to deal with me in the future."

Isaac answered decisively, but he had a feeling that the other person was holding back something big.

He also wanted to reconnect with the Hoffmann family and reveal his plan to infiltrate the church to Lucius, hoping to cause some trouble for the enemy later.

Happy times are so short. Isaac indulged himself in the upper town for three days before returning to the blacksmith shop in the lower town.

Out of consideration for the Rachel family's reputation, the two could only spend time together in the secluded aristocratic mansion and could not appear in public, which Isaac found somewhat regrettable.

------

As night fell and temperatures dropped, the atmosphere in the Vulture Tavern's main hall became lively.

Four paulownia wood tables were pieced together to form a simple platform, where a scantily clad stripper swayed her shapely body.

The surrounding guests, influenced by alcohol, started making a ruckus, and as handfuls of coins were thrown onto the platform, the dancers' clothes became increasingly scantily clad.

Isaac, Scar, and Anton Tans were drinking at a corner table. Besides the three members of the Sandblade Adventurer Group, the Wanderer Liam was also present. He had joined the adventurer group, making it a standard four-person team.

"Cheers!"

The group drank their beer heartily, laughing heartily. After their adventures ended and they earned enough gold coins, most Sandwalkers would choose to indulge themselves for a while, only looking for commissions when they ran out of money.

Of course, we will still accept commissions with suitable prices if they come along; no one would turn down money.

Some Sandwalkers save money to switch to small businesses, like Old Neil and Isaac in this tavern, collectively known as "successfully making it ashore".

Choosing to become a sandwalker is called "going to sea," which means going on an adventure in the desert.

Isaac gulped down the Paloma-flavored ale, a cheap drink that tasted good and had low alcohol content, perfect for satisfying a craving.

Isaac was friends with Anton Tans and the others, but he didn't reveal anything about changing to a paladin, since it was still uncertain whether it would work out.

He pulled a bulging money pouch from his waist and tossed it directly in front of Antontans. This was the remaining money from the deal they had agreed on last time, the money left over from taking the obsidian ring.

The adventure captain didn't even count the money; he simply pocketed the bag, showing he trusted Isaac's character.

The revelry lasted until late at night. The Sandblade Adventurers said their goodbyes, leaving only Isaac and Scar sitting in a corner drinking. Seeing that it was almost time, they were ready to leave at any moment.

The tavern owner, sitting at the bar, looked hesitant, still holding the 3% commission Isaac had given him.

Old Neil hesitated for a long time, then finally let out a heavy sigh, made up his mind, took a glass of wine to the corner table, and clinked glasses with the two men.

"Old Neil, what's up?"

In the dim candlelight, Isaac could tell that he seemed to be in trouble, so he took the initiative to ask his old friend.

"Big guy, I have a personal request for you."

Old Neil sat beside Isaac, not daring to look him in the eye.

Having drunk quite a bit, Isaac didn't notice his strange demeanor and casually said:

"Trying to bring me more business? Cheers!"

Scarface, the butcher, chimed in from the other side of the table, "Me too! Don't forget me if you need anything!"

"There is a long-distance escort commission to escort a batch of valuable supplies to 'Rock Town'. We need to cross the 'Gray Peak Mountains' canyon along the 'Dark Road' to reach the destination."

After Old Neil finished speaking, Isaac recalled that the destination was already outside the Enook Desert, and the journey was long, requiring at least ten days to half a month to reach.

"They need a good one, and they've offered this amount of commission," Old Neil said, holding up two fingers.

"20 gold coins?"

"Scars? There can't be two!"

Isaac and Scar laughed heartily. This commission was indeed not low, or rather, very high, probably because of the name of the Son of the Sun.

"Let's accept it together, 10 gold coins each."

With the idea of sharing the good fortune, Isaac was willing to halve his commission to bring Scar along, and since Ian could help out at the slaughterhouse during his absence, he was willing to do so.

"Two people are a bit unnecessary."

Old Neil looked serious, wanting to dissuade the two.

Isaac waved his hand: "There's no extra commission for having one more person, so the employer can't refuse, can he?"

"Alright then," Old Neil said, no longer trying to persuade him.

"We'll leave early the day after tomorrow, hopefully we'll make it."

"no problem."

After Isaac and the other man left, old Neil slumped onto the stool, looking somewhat dazed.

The bartender thought the boss had drunk too much, after all, how could an older person outdrink Isaac, who was in his prime?

They tried to come over and help him up, but Old Neil waved them away.

The tavern owner sat alone for over an hour before finally heading to a room on the second floor.
