Faerûn: Lord of the Eternal Sun
Chapter 3: A Matter of Both Superiority and Life and Death
On the fifth day of the Shield Festival, only 15 out of hundreds of contestants remained. Each of them was a powerful warrior who had fought their way through numerous battles.
Isaac's luck turned sour, but the battles of the past few days have brought him back to his best form.
As opponents grow stronger, you must be 100% focused in every battle to defeat them.
After overcoming numerous challenges, Isaac made it to the final round, where his opponent was Davis, a renowned young warrior nicknamed "Black Death."
He comes from a very influential background. He is an officer in the army, and his family is a long-established noble family of warriors in the city, with great influence in the army.
If it weren't for the tournament at the Shield Festival, Isaac probably wouldn't even have had a chance to fight him fairly outside.
The arena has been completely liberated, and the two are now the final protagonists of this festive celebration.
"Isaac, you were defeated by my brother four years ago, and it's a pity that you've met me again today. I feel sorry for you."
Davis, nicknamed the Black Reaper, didn't actually have very dark skin. Instead, his skin was closer to Isaac's, a healthy bronze. His sculpted features and short, silver-gray hair set him apart from the commoners.
Based on Isaac's observations during his years in the army, none of the War Soul descendants were ugly, not to mention the Ancient God descendants, who were even more strikingly good-looking.
"Davis, don't regret it. I will fight this battle with all my might no matter what."
Isaac knew that even if he defeated his opponent, he would offend him, or perhaps his family. But he had already come this far and could not afford to back down.
……
The blazing midday sun baked the dueling arena, and every gentle breeze was a reward.
An ordinary person would faint from dehydration after being exposed to the sun for a while, but for these two powerful warriors, they were already used to fighting in high-temperature environments.
After the nobles in the stands gave a signal, the arbitrator struck a gong, signifying the official start of this final duel.
The two were about 30 or 40 meters apart, and Isaac was still using his heavy scimitar and shield.
After several days of fighting, the shield had many marks left by the battle, and the heavy scimitar had several small nicks.
It's not a big problem. Just go back to the blacksmith to repair it after the battle. As long as you survive.
His opponent, the Black Death Davis, wielded a spear and shield, and unlike his bare-chested opponent, he wore a white scale armor.
The subterranean white snake lives underground in the desert. The armor made from its scales can emit a cold aura, lower the temperature of its body surface, and has excellent defensive capabilities.
It's not a matter of fairness or unfairness; for Isaac, just being able to stand on the same fighting field is already a great achievement.
After the duel began, the two men strode close to each other and made probing moves. Davis maintained his attack distance, taking advantage of the length of his weapon.
Isaac raised his shield to parry, but the opponent's spear was no ordinary weapon either. After blocking several times, the shield developed several holes in the iron and wood.
Whenever Isaac attacked, his opponent would always retreat with agile footwork and counterattack with his spear at the right time.
So Isaac simply threw away the shield in his left hand so that he could move at his fastest speed.
As his opponent's spear thrust forward again, Isaac narrowed his eyes, dodging while seizing the opportunity to lunge forward.
Davis was no slouch in combat; he swung his spear to change direction, and the blade sliced open his opponent's side.
Isaac felt a chill on his waist, relieved that his opponent hadn't poisoned his weapon. Ignoring his wound, he swung his scimitar and slashed heavily.
The whistling sound of the scimitar cutting through the air was obvious, demonstrating its terrifying chopping power.
The opponent raised his shield to block, but uncontrollably staggered back two steps to dissipate the force.
"Damn, those lowly commoners are incredibly strong!"
Davis considered himself to be naturally strong, able to lift over 200 pounds overhead with one arm, but judging from their first head-on collision, he was still at a disadvantage.
[A surge of action]
Isaac finally gained the upper hand and naturally wouldn't give his opponent a chance to breathe, unleashing terrifying power and speed to deliver a series of slashes.
[A surge of action]
Both being soldiers from the military, they naturally mastered the same combat skills. Davis pushed his physical potential to its limits, unleashing terrifying power in a short period of time.
In just four or five seconds, the two unleashed their full power, their attacks creating afterimages that dazzled the spectators in the stands. They could only see blood splattering, and couldn't help but gasp in surprise.
Soon the two separated, revealing their miserable appearances.
Isaac was breathing heavily. He had a hole in his right chest and thigh, and the blood that flowed out stained his upper body red before dripping onto the ground. He tried to clench the muscles in his wounds to stop the blood from flowing out.
Isaac, now in battle mode, felt little physical pain. Instead, he laughed, as his opponent's injuries worsened under his relentless attacks.
Three huge gashes appeared on Davis's snake scale armor, through which fragments of broken bone could be seen.
If it weren't for the protection of this animal hide armor, Isaac's scimitar would have chopped him into pieces long ago.
"Isaac, in the name of the Lancaras family and the War Soul lineage, I command you to surrender!"
Davis looked pained, lowered his voice, and couldn't believe he had lost.
These words completely ignited Isaac's anger!
"Under the sun's witness, I will not tolerate any cowardice! Let us settle this with our lives!"
Isaac felt his blood boiling and roared as he charged forward. His explosive power was comparable to that of a tiger, and the force with which he slashed at his weapon was comparable to that of a brown bear.
In a panic, Davis thrust his spear toward his opponent's heart, but his opponent swayed and used his shoulder to block the sharp spear, which pierced through him.
But Isaac's heavy slash arrived, and Davis, unable to dodge in time, began to replay his memories.
He received family training from a young age and was as talented as his older brother. He was given special attention by the family and joined the army at the age of 16. With the help of his family and his own abilities, he became a high-ranking military officer in just 6 years.
"Brother, I will also earn the title of 'Son of the Sun' just like you! I will prove that I am no less than you."
This was a promise Davis made to his brother before participating in the tournament.
In just half a second, Davis completed his 28-year memory, a hint of regret in his eyes. Then, his entire head was cleaved in two by the heavy scimitar, exposing the bloody brain tissue.
Isaac, panting heavily, stared at his opponent's fallen body with a complex expression.
"This time, we've completely offended the Lancaras family!"
The spectators in the stands erupted in enthusiastic cheers, applauding the bloody and exciting battle.
Matthew the Sandwalker, sitting in the corner of the stands, stared wide-eyed. He hadn't expected the big blacksmith to be so fierce; he had truly become the Son of the Sun!
Only the noblewomen in the aristocratic seats covered their mouths in astonishment, never expecting that Isaac, a descendant of a mason, would actually dare to kill.
A middle-aged officer stared intently at Isaac, his eyes blazing with fury, his teeth practically grinding to powder.
Her beloved younger brother died in the martial arts competition; he was a lowly commoner.
"Isaac, the Lancaras family will make you pay!"
The middle-aged officer roared inwardly.
