Faerûn: Lord of the Eternal Sun
Chapter 30 Standing Stone Plain and Camp
escape!Run away!
In the desert, two camels were fleeing frantically ahead, while dozens of meters behind them, beneath the yellow sand, lurked some unknown monster with a huge, serpentine body that twisted like a venomous snake, relentlessly pursuing Isaac and Tethys.
"Isaac! Why are there such huge desert worms?!"
"How would I know if you ask me?"
The two were astonished. Newborn desert worms are only the size of earthworms, but they can grow to three or four meters long when they mature.
But the desert worm behind him was at least twenty or thirty meters long, and its open mouth was the size of a wooden house; it was not an enemy he could fight head-on.
The two sides were getting closer and closer, and the paladin's hand had already touched the hilt of his sword, ready to fight the monster behind him.
"Run towards the Gobi Desert!"
Isaac remained calm, his keen eyesight catching sight of the distant rocky desert. He then untied the large and small bags hanging from the camel's back and hung them directly around his neck.
The cloth bag contained dried meat and some adventure items, which were very precious resources in the desert and could not be discarded carelessly.
Isaac drew his scimitar and slashed the camel's rump; the oozing blood instantly soaked the fur.
The paladin standing beside him looked at him with a puzzled expression, not understanding what he was doing.
Until Isaac stood on the camel's back and pounced on her, the camel.
"What are you doing!" Tessia roared angrily.
"Desert worms are attracted by the smell of blood, so we ran away in two directions and let the camels carry them away."
Isaac sat behind the paladin, his large hand reaching out from behind to reach the reins and control the camel to turn the camel around.
The two camels ran apart, and sure enough, the monster behind them was attracted by the blood of the other camel.
After running several hundred meters, Isaac opened his divine golden eyes and looked back, just in time to see a giant worm preying on an injured camel.
The worm suddenly sprang out from under the yellow sand, its body covered with wrinkled, loose, yellowish-brown skin. Its sharp horns on its head could crush rocks, and its enormous, wide-open mouth contained spiraling, fine teeth. It swallowed the entire camel whole.
The monstrous snout twitched, blood flowing from the corner of its mouth. The worm raised its upper body, which was more than ten meters high, and quietly watched Isaac and his companion, who were hundreds of meters away.
In the end, they gave up the pursuit and only after finishing their food did they burrow back under the yellow sand and disappear into the desert.
…………
As tall plants began to appear, the two led their camels to a hilly area formed by giant rocks, where tenacious wild grasses grew wildly on the plain.
"We've arrived at the Risshi Plain."
Led by camels, the two found a water source in a low-lying area at the edge of the plain.
There were animal footprints on the water's edge, and camels were already drinking deeply. Isaac stepped forward with several large water bags to fill them.
"These water sources may not be very clean, and may be mixed with wild animal feces and rotting carcasses. Drinking them could very likely cause abdominal pain and diarrhea."
Isaac offered a reminder, saying that given his current physical condition, he wasn't too worried about getting diarrhea, but rather about the paladin.
"I can use holy light to purify the water source."
With her spellcasting abilities, Tasia was a little arrogant. She squatted by the water's edge and scooped up water to wash her face.
Isaac tilted his head back and gulped down a mouthful of water, then pulled out a parchment map from his pocket. It would probably take another two or three days to find the Zantalin Society's outpost.
"Let's go! We need to be careful from now on."
After resting on the ground, the two set off again.
…………
This is a secret outpost of the Santalite Order, codenamed "Eye of the Standing Stone" within the organization.
Located in the central-western part of the Standing Stone Plain, deep within the giant Standing Stone formation, the stronghold is embedded in the base of a wind-eroded stone pillar.
The camp consisted of six or seven wooden huts and a three-story rock fortress, surrounded by a four-meter-high wooden fence to keep out wild animals.
The main purpose of this secret outpost was to monitor the movements of barbarians and trade routes. Once a discovery was made, members would be organized to launch an attack on the caravan.
They are also searching for the location of Netheril's ruins.
I don't know where the Church of the Sun got its intelligence location.
As night fell, two figures crept furtively behind a distant boulder, watching the light emanating from the three-tiered rock fortress. They could vaguely hear laughter and shouting coming from inside, as if the members of the stronghold were drinking and having fun.
"Isaac, give up the trial! Go back and gather the church guards, then come back and wipe them out."
Tessia is still trying her best to dissuade him. After nearly ten days of contact, she has come to believe that Isaac is actually a very good person.
It's obvious that it's impossible for one person to take on the entire outpost camp alone.
"This is a test from the church, and I will definitely pass it smoothly."
Isaac chewed on the jerky and took several big gulps of strong liquor to bolster his courage.
Carrying the Star Silver Kite Shield and the Schickel Heavy Scimitar, with the scabbard of his dagger strapped to his belt and two vials of antidote and healing potion in his pouch, Isaac believed he was fully prepared.
"Wait for me here, I'm coming."
The paladin watched helplessly as Isaac walked further and further away, making his way towards the distant outpost under the cover of night.
In this vast plain and hilly area, the Santalin Order did not set up any sentry posts, which gave Isaac a certain opportunity.
Faced with a large number of enemies, it is impossible to fight them head-on; we must find opportunities to defeat them one by one.
Isaac just hoped there weren't any traps inside this rocky camp; if they fell into an enemy trap, it would be a huge joke.
Quietly approaching the wooden fence, which connects to large natural rocks.
Isaac took a running start, stepped on the rocks beside him, and leaped up, his upper body resting on the top edge of the wall as he surveyed the camp environment.
The three-story fortress and the wooden houses on the edge were about 20 to 30 meters apart, and with the cover of the wind, they should not easily disturb each other.
He gently rolled to the ground, but did not act immediately. Instead, he used his divine golden eyes to scan the surrounding environment, avoiding several areas that seemed to be traps, and made his way towards the area of six or seven wooden houses on the edge of the camp.
First, check if there are any lone survivors in the cabin. If so, send them on their way first, and then deal with the enemies in the three-layered fortress, catching them off guard.
If you were a wanderer, you could also poison them all by secretly poisoning the water source.
Unfortunately, he's a warrior, and can only break through through direct combat.
I quietly arrived at the first wooden house. The night wind was howling, and I pressed my ear against the wooden door to listen for a while.
The interior was very quiet; there was no sound of breathing or movement. So he turned around and walked towards the second wooden house.
No - No - No.
Finally, in the fourth room, before even reaching the door, I could hear soft moans and heavy breathing coming from inside.
Isaac was very familiar with this sound; it was definitely a pair of adulterers mating inside.
Candlelight shone through the crack in the wooden door; it wasn't locked, which was wonderful.
Isaac shoved the door open with his shoulder and felt a burning sensation in his eyes when he saw what was happening.
There were two burly men, one of whom was a strong orc!
"Damn, that's disgusting!"
