Chapter 18 Recruitment Portraits
Lin Yue replied hesitantly, "I feel that General Manager Liu's understanding of this job profile is somewhat different from yours. Perhaps we could have another meeting to discuss it and refocus on a different job profile?"
Sheng Xing waved his hand and said, "You can communicate with him."
Lin Yue understood that Sheng Xing was a conflict-avoiding manager, and he expected her to directly help him deal with Liu Zheng. However, Lin Yue's influence was currently limited, and Liu Zheng wouldn't listen to her. Besides, she couldn't bypass Liu Zheng and simply push the matter to Sheng Xing. She realized this couldn't continue; she needed to find an opportunity to bring the two bosses together. All she could do was lay out the problem and let them solve it themselves.
The most critical issue right now is the lack of a unified strategic positioning among the branches. Only by addressing this problem at its root can the recruitment profiles be standardized, and only then can her work proceed smoothly.
Finally, one day, Lin Yue met a candidate, 28 years old, majoring in cultural relic appraisal, with an overseas study background. Judging from her resume alone, she absolutely met Liu Zheng's requirements for innovation. What's even more remarkable is that after communicating with her by phone, Lin Yue learned that she came from a family with a rich cultural heritage and had many older artisan friends. So, Lin Yue helped her include these abilities in her resume, and then added Liu Zheng and Sheng Xing to the same group.
She named the group "Store Manager Recruitment Task Force" and first talked about the number of resumes recommended and the number of interviewees recently. According to the data, the number of resumes recommended, the attendance rate, and the pass rate of the first interview were all pretty good. The current problem is the pass rate of the final interview. Of course, Lin Yue did not directly state this conclusion, because the bosses are not stupid. They can see Lin Yue's workload from the data and know where the problem lies.
Next, she explained the importance of hiring this person for the upcoming branch opening, and the fact that it was approaching the end of the year, a slow season for hiring, as candidates were all waiting for their year-end bonuses and few were willing to change jobs at this time. After explaining these objective reasons, she immediately stated that she would do everything she could to successfully recruit someone for this position within a month.
Although Sheng Xing was somewhat dissatisfied that Lin Yue hadn't solved his problem before him, he didn't say anything more when he saw her proactive attitude in wanting to move things forward. Liu Zheng glanced at the resume and quickly replied with three words: "We can talk." Then, Lin Yue explained in detail the abilities that the candidate possessed that met Sheng Xing's requirements.
After a while, Shengxing replied, "You guys talk first, and then recommend it to me if it's suitable."
Lin Yue continued typing in the group chat: "The candidate has to go on a business trip early tomorrow morning and won't be back for a long time. He's only available from 3 pm to 4 pm today. I hope the two bosses can coordinate a time to chat together."
Shengxing hoped the recruitment process could proceed as soon as possible, while Liu Zheng wanted to show his strong support for both opening a branch and hiring. Therefore, both of them quickly replied with an "OK".
It's true that the candidate was on a business trip, but Lin Yue fabricated the fact that he only had one hour of free time.
Her goal was to bring the two of them together and let them resolve their differences themselves. Although she currently appeared to be on Shengxing's side, she couldn't afford to completely sever ties with Liu Zheng.
When gods fight, ordinary people suffer. She couldn't afford to offend either of these two powerful figures; this was the best solution she could think of at the moment.
The interview proceeded smoothly. Lin Yue escorted the candidate out of the meeting room and hurried back in. Both bosses were still there. Lin Yue placed the resume on the table and asked, "Mr. Sheng, Mr. Liu, what did you think of the candidate?"
Liu Zheng nodded and said, "I think this person is good in all aspects. He has innovative ideas and is very passionate about traditional culture."
Sheng Xing looked at Liu Zheng, raised an eyebrow and said, "What's the use of just having a passion? The key is that her understanding of traditional culture is not deep enough."
So the two of them started talking about their evaluation of the candidates and then got into a heated discussion about the branch office's positioning.
Lin Yue didn't interrupt much, but simply scribbled on a piece of paper. Once their discussion came to an end, she brought up the points they hadn't agreed on. Her goal was to expose the problems as much as possible and let them solve them themselves.
After several rounds of debate without reaching a conclusion, Shengxing finally grew impatient and said to Liu Zheng, "Don't you still understand the positioning of offline stores? I already made it very clear last time. You don't need to worry about this position anymore. I will explain any problems to the board of directors myself."
After saying that, he picked up his phone from the conference table and strode away. Lin Yue was still not used to this kind of scene, and at this moment she buried her head deeply, her heart involuntarily skipping a beat.
"Lin Yue, come to my office for a moment." Sheng Xing walked to the door, then suddenly turned back and said to Lin Yue.
Her mind went blank for a moment, and she reflexively replied, "Okay."
Then, she secretly glanced at Liu Zheng and saw that his face was ashen, as if he was holding his breath but had nowhere to vent it.
Immediately, she didn't dare to delay for a moment and hurriedly followed Shengxing towards his office.
The walk from the meeting room to Shengxing's office felt longer than ever before. She quickly thought through her thoughts, wondering if her approach had been too radical, since the matter seemed to be resolved today.
This clearly put both bosses in an awkward position, but what could she do given her current status?
She remembered Qin Lan telling her before that HR's work is not black and white, and there is often a gray area in between.
When you're unsure, ask yourself about your intentions. If your intention is to improve the organization and benefit the employees, then go for it boldly. Because if your intention is righteous, the outcome won't be too bad no matter what you do. But if your intention is for your own selfish desires or to target a particular person, then you need to be careful.
She applied today's events to Qin Lan's theory, and knew in her heart that her starting point was good.
But then a faint worry crept into her mind. She thought that Qin Lan must have done things in the same way before, but she was still fired by Shengxing in the end. A sense of sadness and helplessness washed over her.
As soon as Sheng Xing walked into his office, he threw his phone heavily on the desk, leaned back in his chair, his face ashen, and rubbed his temples.
Clearly, he hadn't recovered from his anger. Lin Yue gently closed the door, sat opposite him, head down, even her breathing was deliberately restrained, afraid that any noise would add to Sheng Xing's already bad mood.
After a few minutes of silence, Sheng Xing finally spoke: "From now on, just send your resumes to me directly. Liu Zheng doesn't need to be interviewed anymore. Also, I'm very dissatisfied with your performance today. I'm your boss. If Liu Zheng had such a big error in his initial job profile, you should have told me sooner."
