Chapter 21 Cute Little Doll
"It shouldn't be... a confession, right?"
Chen Rang walked slowly, recalling his conversation with Li Shiwei as he went.
He couldn't quite figure out Li Shiwei's true thoughts, mainly because their conversation about high school seemed to hint at a return to their former, somewhat distant, relationship as deskmates.
And it's impossible for adults to remain completely innocent in their companions, right?
Chen Rang suspected he was just overthinking things, but he couldn't help fantasizing. This was perhaps something most men secretly longed for and enjoyed; he was no exception. And who could say there was absolutely no possibility of it?
right?
Chen Rang thought to himself with a hint of slyness.
His heart began to flutter slightly.
However, just as he was about to return to the clinic, Chen Rang remembered what Li Shiwei had told him earlier.
He was still concerned about Officer Yang needing a dog to help him make a living. Although he didn't have a specific target yet, that didn't stop him from contacting a few acquaintances to ask if anyone knew of a suitable candidate.
"No, I don't have that variety here."
"Guide dogs? If I could raise those, why would I need to run a kennel? How about wolfhounds? I have two German Shepherds here."
"Guide dogs? I don't have any, but I have connections. Brother Chen, it just depends on what price you're willing to pay. As long as the money's right, everything else is negotiable. You put down a deposit first, and I'll definitely find a way to get one for you."
"Xiao Chen, you're asking me, a dog meat vendor, if I have guide dogs? Isn't that a wrong number?"
We chatted idly all the way back to the clinic.
Chen asked several people, but the results were not good.
Even the guy who claims he can get guide dogs is actually unreliable.
Of course, Chen Rang didn't expect anything from them. He only contacted them to ask them to keep an eye out for any opportunities, nothing more. Cats have their ways, mice have theirs; maybe one of them has a good connection and, with luck, might be able to get one.
Anyway, it's just a casual move; making a phone call won't take much effort.
Chen Rang opened the clinic door, and before changing his clothes, he first fed the seven cats who were looking at him pitifully.
Then, he looked at the little ones and sighed deeply.
"I wish there were guide cats! I'm not the most knowledgeable about dogs, but I'm very familiar with cats. And with so many cats at home, it would be great if one of them could be a guide cat."
"Meow?"
The cats had already developed trust in Chen Rang and were no longer afraid of him. They didn't understand what Chen Rang was saying, but as soon as they heard him make a sound, they all quickly echoed him with meows to show their support.
In Chen Rang's view, this was quite like the pleasant feeling of selling them and having them help count the money.
Unfortunately, he hasn't managed to give away a single one yet.
Seeing that the cats were eating their food normally, Chen Rang went upstairs to change his clothes. After coming down, he first checked the female silver shaded cat to make sure there were no abnormalities during her pregnancy, then changed the bandage on her wound before going to see the other cats.
Because some anti-inflammatory medication was added to their drinking water, the cats all seemed to be in relatively good condition.
The only exception was the Munchkin cat with the injured hind leg. It was probably suffering nerve damage, and it was walking with a slight limp. The only solution was to let it rest slowly, and it would probably take quite some time to recover.
Moreover, it's only a chance.
Seeing that this guy didn't care about becoming a cripple and was walking back and forth in the cage by himself, Chen Rang felt a little emotional.
It must be said that cats are far superior to humans in terms of emotions.
They never complain or give up on themselves. Even when injured, or seriously injured, they will only accept it and struggle to survive, and will never have any wild thoughts.
That's the good thing about being a veterinarian; you don't have to worry about the patient's psychological issues, and the patient won't ask all sorts of questions or make all sorts of demands.
Chen Rang thought to himself with a chuckle.
Seeing that it was still early, and feeling a bit bored and not wanting to rest, Chen Rang took the plush toy out of its carrier.
This guy has the longest fur, and it looks the messiest and dirtiest. Considering its health condition and the possibility of illness, I hadn't given it a thorough cleaning before. Now that I had some free time, I could finally give it a bath.
"Meow?"
The ragdoll cat stared wide-eyed at Chen Rang as he led it away, looking somewhat puzzled.
It didn't struggle, nor did it care about the changes in its surroundings. The little guy stared at Chen Rang without blinking from beginning to end, as if there was something on Chen Rang's face that it found very interesting, or perhaps it represented complete trust.
"What are you looking at?"
Chen Rang pretended to be fierce, lowered his head and leaned closer, even gritting his teeth and making faces.
However, the little rag doll made no attempt to dodge, continuing to stare intently at Chen Rang. Only when their noses were almost touching did it slightly shrink its neck back, but its pupils still reflected only Chen Rang's image.
This kid is so well-behaved it's heartbreaking.
Chen Rang raised his head somewhat boredly, his frowning expression suggesting he disliked the little doll for smelling a bit.
This made the little doll somewhat dissatisfied, and it tried to stretch one of its front paws toward Chen Rang, as if it wanted to touch his face.
"You used to be the top cat at the cat cafe."
Chen Rang pinched his little paws and grinned.
This was the first time he had ever seen a cat that could captivate someone's heart with just a look. This cat didn't even need to jump around and fawn over other cats; it only needed one move—"You're the only one in my eyes"—to make someone fall head over heels.
At least for this moment, the thought flashed through Chen Rang's mind that he should not send away this little rag doll, no matter who else he sent away.
This guy is so cute!
Just like when he first brought DouDou home, Chen Rang found the little doll pleasing to the eye no matter how he looked at it. Back then, he also felt that DouDou was so cute and obedient, but unfortunately, it was all just DouDou's pretense.
Thinking about this, Chen Rang couldn't help but feel a little regretful.
He changed his posture, no longer twisting the little doll's neck, but supporting its belly with his palm and carefully protecting the outside with his other arm to prevent the little doll from falling.
At this moment, we arrived at the pet-specific bathroom at the very back.
The private room, separated by a glass wall, contains a bathtub, a water heater, and several types of pet-specific shampoos and lotions. Next to it, in a corner, is a hand dryer specifically for quickly drying the fur of cats and dogs.
"Meow!"
As we entered the bathroom, the little doll suddenly cried out.
Chen Rang inexplicably felt the little guy's body suddenly tense up. It even cautiously tried to break free from Chen Rang's grasp, but it didn't use much force, seemingly just being affectionate.
"Sweetie! After your bath, I'll brush your fur neatly, and you'll look beautiful again. Then I'll get you a private room, a two-bedroom cat house. Do you like that?"
Chen Rang comforted the little doll while turning on the tap.
Water droplets sprayed from the showerhead, landing in the ceramic bathtub with a soft pattering sound. However, the water heater wasn't working yet, and Chen Rang needed to wait for the water to reach 38 degrees Celsius before putting the little doll inside.
He doesn't even need a thermometer; his touch is the most accurate thermometer!
Of course, the showerhead in the bathtub is also temperature-controlled; it will stop rising once it reaches 39 degrees Celsius, which is the temperature cats like best.
"Meow~"
The little doll became noticeably restless and began to sway and struggle slightly.
It stopped looking at Chen Rang and stared fearfully at the spraying showerhead, then looked down at the porcelain bathtub that was already filled with water. It curled up and tried to tuck its tail back, but Chen Rang's arm blocked its way.
So the little doll's tail swept along Chen Rang's arm, and it kept barking at Chen Rang.
"Meow! Meow~"
"What's wrong?"
Chen Rang was stunned for a moment.
He had seen some cats that didn't like baths, and some even acted as if bathing them was like killing them. But no matter what kind of cat it was, none of them cried out in terror like the Ragdoll; it seemed to feel that the act would harm it.
"So, something happened in the past?"
Chen Rang's expression turned slightly somber, and he took two steps back while holding the small rag doll.
But he didn't say to turn off the water or leave, because the little doll needed to take a bath, as it was related to its health.
So even if the Ragdoll cat is unwilling, it has to get used to the water flow, to taking a bath, and to slowly enjoying the feeling of bathing in the tub. It's a long-haired cat, and this helps soften its fur and prevent tangles.
And bathing your cat once or twice a year not only keeps it clean, but also removes loose fur that sticks to its body during shedding, preventing it from becoming a walking fur-shedding machine.
Chen Rang would not compromise on this.
