Guo Liqing nodded and said, "Yes. Great Khan, I am late in coming to your rescue, please forgive me!"

Genghis Khan breathed a sigh of relief and said, "It's not too late. Fortunately, you arrived in time." He then looked at Badr's corpse and asked, "Who was this assassin?"

Guo Liqing walked to the corpse, pulled out the spear with one hand, and then, with his back to Genghis Khan, rummaged through the body, taking out the things he had prepared earlier.

Guo Liqing presented the items to Genghis Khan and said, "Great Khan, these things were found on the corpse; they look like those of a Jurchen."

Genghis Khan had just exchanged a glance with Badr and vaguely remembered his face.

He walked over, picked up Badr's head, and said, "This is clearly a Turk."

Genghis Khan roared, "It seems these Khwarazmian subjects are dissatisfied and have sent assassins to kill me! This time, I will wipe them all out!"

Guo Liqing thought to himself: This is bad!

He said aloud, "Great Khan, I remember that I found all the royal family and nobles in Samarkand, and you personally ordered them to be executed. There are still remnants of the nobility today; this is my dereliction of duty, and I beg you to punish me, Great Khan!"

"You did nothing wrong, so what punishment are you talking about? On the contrary, if it weren't for you tonight, I would probably be in danger." Genghis Khan looked at Guo Jing and said with a smile, "Not only were you not wrong, but you also protected me!"

Guo Liqing knelt on one knee and said, "Great Khan, leave this matter to me. I will definitely get to the bottom of it."

Genghis Khan smiled and nodded, saying, "I trust you to handle things."

"Father Khan!"

"Father Khan!"

"Father Khan!"

Jochi, Chagatai, and Ögedei arrived late with their troops.

"Father Khan, where is the assassin?"

"It's alright, Jing'er has already taken care of it." Genghis Khan didn't even look at them directly, but instead patted Guo Liqing on the shoulder and asked, "Why are you in the palace so late?"

"I originally came to see Hua Zheng, but I noticed something amiss and followed them. I never expected them to be assassins!"

"I see. I'm so glad you were here today," Genghis Khan said. "I know Huazheng has been staying with you these past few days. Today I summoned her to the palace, and seeing that it was getting late, I let her stay there. Now that it's late, let's not disturb her!"

"it is good."

After Guo Liqing left the palace, Nahita followed him from the shadows.

Guo Liqing said, "The Great Khan is very angry now and needs an explanation. We need to investigate this Badr. He insisted on killing Genghis Khan even when he was injured. He may be more than just a chivalrous thief."

"yes!"

After leaving the palace, Guo Liqing immediately went to Ya Laowachi's residence, the only person he could use in Samarkand.

Guo Liqing entered the room with a stern face and a sharp lip, giving the impression that something was amiss.

"Sir, how is the situation?"

Guo Liqing shook his head and said, "Badr almost succeeded in the assassination, and the Great Khan was furious..."

"Sir, please help me!"

Before Guo Liqing could finish speaking, Ya Laowachi immediately knelt down and begged for help.

Guo Liqing helped him up with one hand and said, "Don't worry, there's still a chance to turn things around. I've already asked the Khan to let me investigate this matter. As long as we find Badr and the forces behind him, and let the Khan kill them to vent his anger, we won't provoke the Khan's wrath to massacre the city."

Upon hearing this, Ya Laowachi asked doubtfully, "Wasn't Badr's assassination of the Khan a personal act? Did he have a powerful backer?"

Guo Liqing stared at Ya Laowachi and said, "It's definitely not that simple! You must find out the truth! Otherwise, you know the consequences."

Ya Laowachi also looked bewildered. He could only rely on Guo Liqing. He asked, "Sir, how should I investigate? I have no clues at all."

Guo Liqing pondered for a moment, then said, "Who would benefit the most from killing Genghis Khan?"

Yaravach was a former official of Khwarazm and was well aware of the various factions within Khwarazm.

Guo Liqing's words immediately enlightened Ya Laowachi.

"I see!"

Ya Laowachi left immediately.

Guo Liqing glanced at Nashita beside him and asked, "What else do you know about Badr?"

Nahita said, "Although I share the reputation of a chivalrous thief with Badr, we don't really know each other. However..." Suddenly, Nahita remembered something and quickly added, "There's an intelligence organization in Samarkand with close ties to him. Perhaps we can find clues there!"

"good!"

Guo Liqing immediately set off with Nashita.

Since Samarkand was taken over by the Mongols, a curfew has been in effect at night.

Nashita was incredibly skilled in light-footed martial arts, leaping and bounding between houses without making a sound, so as not to alert the Mongol soldiers patrolling the alley.

Although Guo Liqing could keep up with Nashita, he would occasionally make a commotion.

However, they were fast enough and ran far away in no time.

The two arrived at a church, which was ostensibly a place to communicate with God, but secretly served as a stronghold for an intelligence organization.

It was already night, and the church was empty and so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

"Still no signal?"

"No!"

"Looks like we've failed. Let's retreat!"

"We have no choice but to retreat."

From deep within the church, a series of gibberish sounds drifted over. Guo Liqing, not understanding, quickly whispered to Nashita, "What are they saying?"

Nahita frowned and relayed the information truthfully.

"What signal are they waiting for? A signal that Badr's assassination was successful?"

"Possibly."

Guo Liqing followed Nahita and sneaked inside. There were two people in the room, one a Persian and the other a Turk. They had already packed their things and were preparing to escape.

Guo Liqing went over, ready to capture the two men.

These two men were somewhat skilled, but far inferior to Guo Liqing.

With just one palm strike and one punch, the two men collapsed to the ground, unable to get up.

Guo Liqing grabbed the Persian by the neck with his hand, while Nahita held a dagger to the neck of the Turk.

"Who are you? How dare you trespass on a branch of my Dark Night Organization?"

"The Dark Night Organization?" Guo Liqing asked in confusion, as this was a name that had not appeared in the original work.

Nahita, who was standing next to her, explained, "It's an assassination organization from Persia."

"Didn't you just say this was an intelligence organization?"

The Persian captured by Guo Liqing explained, "The intelligence organization is just the cover; our true identity is the Dark Night Organization. If you know what's good for you, release us now!"

It turns out that the reason they were so proactive was simply to use the organization's reputation to intimidate Guo Liqing and his companion.

Guo Liqing, however, didn't care at all and asked directly, "Tell me, what is your relationship with Bader?"

Upon hearing Badr's name, both men showed surprise in their eyes, but remained silent.

Guo Liqing noticed this expression and guessed that they must know something.

Suddenly, an idea struck him. Using the acupressure techniques from the Nine Yin Manual, he struck the acupressure points on both of them. Then, smiling, he said to Nashita, "You interrogate one of them here, and I'll go outside to interrogate the other. Whoever speaks first, we'll release them. Whoever speaks last will die."

Nashita was taken aback. What kind of scheme was this?

"Yes."

Guo Liqing led his men outside, and the two men separated. He then asked the Persian man he was holding, "You should have heard what I just said. Speak! Otherwise, you'll die before your companion speaks first."

Guo Liqing was also gambling. Torture was somewhat exhausting, while manipulating people's hearts was much more time-saving and effortless.

Guo Liqing wasn't in a hurry and waited on the side.

Suddenly, a rustling sound came from inside. Guo Liqing laughed, "Looks like your companion has already told you! He wants to kill you!"

The Persian man's heart tightened; he didn't want to die, so he quickly shouted, "I'll talk! I'll talk!"
