Alien creatures destroy homes? Start by killing upright apes!
Chapter 45 The Responsibility of a Great Power
The list was followed by confirmations of receipt from the five countries.
South Korean President Lee wrote a small line on the confirmation letter:
The engineering corps sent by the mighty Longguo taught our workers how to use ambergris concrete, which accelerated the progress of our underground network by four times. We owe you a favor.
Robert from Australia wrote it even more directly:
The water dragon cubs arrived. They fought with the kangaroos and won. Now they're digging a burrow underground in Sydney Bay, faster than our miners.
Nguji of the Lion Kingdom wrote in his broken Common Language:
The water dragon has found groundwater, and our irrigation system is saved.
Rajiv from India wrote two pages detailing the spread of the Ganges River's black blood-like pollution, and then wrote on the last line:
The engineering corps of the mighty dragon nation brought water dragon beasts and dragon saliva concrete, and our first underground water purification plant has been built. It can process 3,000 tons of groundwater every day, which is the only clean water source for 37 villages and towns along the Heng River.
The third part consists of Kerry's own words.
"Brother Lu, the mighty Dragon Kingdom is in dire need of rebuilding. Its industrial base is inferior to the four major rogue states, and its military size is smaller than that of the Ivan Bear Kingdom. But we have something they don't have—we have a large population. The mighty Dragon Kingdom has 400 million people. We chose the Water Dragon Beasts, and the crops on the ground were turned upside down by the Water Dragon Beasts, doubling the yield; the underground network was dug by the Water Dragon Beasts, making it interconnected in all directions. The Water Dragon Beasts are not a threat to the mighty Dragon Kingdom, but a source of labor. Ten million Water Dragon Beasts are equivalent to ten million miners, farmers, and engineers who don't need to eat or be paid."
"Other small countries that chose the Homo erectus don't have this advantage. Their Homo erectus are learning weaving, metallurgy, and camouflage, and their citizens are being replaced on the ground. The Great Dragon Kingdom is helping them not to become the leader, but because if they collapse, those evolved Homo erectus will spread throughout the entire Blue Planet. The thirty-six pseudo-humans of Wakanda have already infiltrated the south. Who will be next? Helping them is helping ourselves."
After reading the telegram, Lu Cheng folded the three pages and put them in his pocket.
"That guy, Carrie," he said, "on Advent Day the whole world cursed him for treason, and he didn't say a word. Now the whole world is begging him for help, and he still doesn't say a word."
Carrie was pouring soup for the water dragon cub: "Do the Four Great Powers know that the Mighty Dragon Kingdom sent engineers to the Five Nations?"
"I know. David mentioned in his telegram yesterday that the underground water purification plant built by the engineering corps of the mighty dragon country in South Korea is better than the one in the United States. There was a hint of sourness in his tone."
……
Ivan Bear Kingdom, the Far Eastern wilderness.
Fra did not attend the Burrow Treaty meeting.
It's not that I don't want to participate, it's that I can't spare the time.
After the Ivan Bear Kingdom's Grimoires evolved to the second stage, they severed all the Far East railway lines. Fura's army is racing against time with their flesh and blood against a group of monsters whose teeth can bite through the rails.
The Far Eastern Railway is the lifeblood of the Ivan Bear State.
This railway, running from the Ural mining region to the ports of the Far East, transports 60 percent of Russia's ore, 40 percent of its grain, and 30 percent of its military equipment.
The Grimoire cut the railway into standard three-meter sections, the cuts so clean they looked like they'd been made with a machine tool.
Fura stood beside a section of severed railway track, with a Grimoire crouching in front of her, having just been killed by a heavy machine gun.
Its cutting teeth are over forty centimeters long, and the serrated edges gleam coldly in the sunlight.
"How many did you kill?" Fella asked.
The commander of the Far East Military District stood behind him, his uniform stained with black animal blood.
"Comrade Chairman, we have killed 320 Gorgon in the past week. But their numbers have not decreased; their reproduction rate exceeds our killing rate."
"What about the upright apes?"
"The Homo erectus tribe north of the Ural mining area started mimicking the division of labor in mining operations yesterday, specializing in excavation, transportation, and sorting. Our mining area's engineers spent three days observing from the mountain and came back saying that their division of labor is more efficient than our miners'."
Fra light the pipe:
"Higher than our miners? Our miners have been doing this for decades, while they've only been learning for forty days."
"The engineers said that upright apes don't have any unnecessary movements. Miners chat, smoke, and slack off while working, but upright apes don't. They repeat the same action from morning till night without any difference."
Fula took a drag of his cigarette, the smoke dissipating in the cold winds of the Far East.
"Continue ordering Water Dragon Beasts from the Winner Monkey Kingdom. No treaty required, just buy them directly. Whatever conditions Lu Cheng demands, we'll provide."
"Comrade Chairman, we did not sign the underground tunnel treaty..."
"Whether we sign or not is just a formality. The Far Eastern Railway of Ivan Bear Country has been cut off, and the surface transport lines are useless. If we don't dig underground, how will we transport the ore from the Urals to the ports? By carrying it on our backs?"
That evening, the Ivan Bear Kingdom simultaneously sent formal applications to both the Winner Monkey Kingdom and the Mighty Dragon Kingdom:
We have ordered 300 Water Dragon Beast cubs and request that the Engineering Corps of the Great Dragon Kingdom be dispatched to assist in the construction of an underground network.
The application letter ended with a handwritten note from Vla: I owe you a favor, a favor from the Ivan Bear Kingdom that carries great weight, as you know.
……
Delhi, India.
Rajiv stood on the banks of the Ganges River, in front of him the first underground water purification plant recently built by the engineering corps of the mighty Longguo.
The entrance to the water purification plant is a spiral cave dug by a water dragon beast. The cave walls are reinforced with dragon saliva concrete, making them as smooth as glaze.
Groundwater is pumped up from a 61-meter-deep aquifer, filtered through three layers, and flows into the wells of 37 villages and towns along the Heng River.
Rajiv squatted at the water treatment plant exit and filled a bowl with water.
The water is clear.
He took a sip; there was no fishy smell of black blood.
"Thirty-seven villages and towns, how many people?" he asked.
The engineering corps captain stood behind him; he was a young man in his early thirties from the mighty Dragon Kingdom, his face tanned dark by the sun.
"Reporting to the Prime Minister, the 37 villages and towns have a total population of approximately 420,000. Currently, the water treatment plant has a daily processing capacity of 3,000 tons, which is enough for each person to be allocated about 7 liters of clean water per day, sufficient for drinking."
"Seven liters." Rajiv held up the bowl of water. "Before Advent, each person along the Ganges used forty liters of water per day. Now, seven liters, we say, is a lifesaver."
The engineering corps captain was silent for a moment:
"Prime Minister, seven liters is the current capacity. The second water purification plant is already under construction, and once completed, its daily processing capacity will increase to eight thousand tons, at which point each person will have twenty liters per day."
Rajiv stood up and handed the remaining water in the bowl to a child behind him who had been infected with black blood.
The child's veins had changed from blue to dark blue, almost black.
He took the bowl, drank the water, and looked at Rajiv with his cloudy eyes. His lips moved, but what he uttered was not human language, but a short, upright ape syllable.
Rajiv's hands trembled slightly.
To what extent have the infected individuals' languages been altered?
The Minister of Health opened the report:
"Approximately 30,000 people have been infected in the lower Ganges River basin. Of these, 40 percent have completely lost their ability to speak human language, retaining only upright ape syllables. 30 percent are in the bilingual stage, able to speak human language as well as produce upright ape syllables. 30 percent can still speak normally, but their blood vessels have darkened in color."
"Is there any way to save him?"
The Minister of Health remained silent for a long time:
"We don't know. The toxins in the black blood are deposited on the blood vessel walls, and our medical methods cannot remove them. But the military doctors of the Great Power Dragon Kingdom have proposed a hypothesis—if the infected people move underground, drink uncontaminated deep groundwater, and avoid contact with upright apes and surface pollution sources, the rate of toxin deposition may slow down or even stop."
