How did I, who just ascended to heaven, become an evil spirit?

Chapter 42 - The True Understanding of the Three Corpses

"Husband, what does this mean?" Li Sujin asked, puzzled, still seeking Li Hu's feedback.

"Hehe, what do you mean?"

Li Bai appeared untimely beside Li Hu, letting out a strange, cunning laugh.

"It obviously means you're a fake; he's already figured it out!"

Li Bai circled around Li Sujin twice, his eyes scanning her up and down as if admiring a work of art.

Li Hu's eyes were bloodshot with rage; he had reached his limit of patience.

So he grabbed Li Bai by the neck and slammed him to the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust. Li Hu roared in terror:

"You! How could you know cultivation techniques! Why did you lie to me!"

"Why!"

Li Hu gripped Li Bai's neck tightly, but Li Bai remained unfazed, and his tone of voice and breathing rhythm were not disturbed in the slightest.

"What exactly are you?!" Li Hu asked angrily, somewhat horrified.

These two things came out of his stomach when he swallowed the meatballs. No one else could see them, so they just thought that Li Hu had gone crazy.

But only Li Hu himself knew that they were real entities.

It can be touched, pinched, and spoken.

But Li Hu really couldn't figure out what these two were, since the Three Corpses True Explanation didn't mention them at all.

"Hey, I am you, and you are me. You can spout nonsense, so why can't I?"

Li Bai didn't struggle, letting Li Hu pin him down, a rather mocking and disdainful look in his eyes.

"Tell me honestly, you actually want to resurrect her, just like Yuan Sou insisted on resurrecting his grandfather. If you want her to be resurrected, I'll help you do so. Why are you blaming me now?"

"But it's fake!"

Li Hu's eyes were bloodshot. Hearing Li Bai admit that Li Sujin was a fabrication, he could no longer suppress his anger.

So he suddenly punched Li Bai in the face.

boom!

This punch was powerful and heavy; Li Hu showed no mercy, using almost all of his strength.

Despite being punched, Li Bai was unharmed and his expression remained unchanged.

But at almost the same moment, Li Hu's face also seemed to have been struck by something, his entire head swaying backward, and he saw stars instantly.

"What's going on?" Li Hu was somewhat skeptical, so he punched the air again.

Boom boom boom!

Enraged by the pain, Li Hu unleashed a barrage of punches, nearly slamming Li Bai into the ground.

But Li Bai's head didn't change much. Instead, with each blow, Li Hu's own head seemed to be hit by something, and it kept tilting backward.

"Hmph." Li Bai suddenly reached out and blocked Li Hu's outstretched fist, cursing, "Coward."

"What did you say?"

Li Hu raised his fist to strike, but Li Bai was not to be outdone. He dodged Li Hu's fist and then stuck a single finger into Li Hu's chest.

His speed was incredibly fast, and Li Hu couldn't dodge it at all.

After inserting his finger, Li Hu found that there were no wounds on his chest, and no blood was flowing out.

However, just a moment later, Li Hu felt as if his heart had been twisted by something, and then a sharp pain shot straight to his head, almost destroying him completely. He instantly curled up on the ground in pain.

Li Bai withdrew his finger, but Li Hu, who had recovered, was relentless.

Li Sujin is really dead. Li Bai lied to himself. More than the pain in his body, Li Hu wants to teach Li Bai a lesson.

"I'll kill you!"

Li Hu stepped back and raised his fist to strike again, but this time Li Hei grabbed his fist.

"Stop fighting!"

Li Hei's hands were very broad and strong. When he gripped Li Hu tightly, Li Hu's fist could not move an inch.

Looking at Li Hei's honest face, Li Hu gradually calmed down.

He looked around and found that everyone around him was staring at him in horror, as if they had seen some kind of monster.

Li Sujin arrived at this moment, grabbed Li Hu's hand, and together with Li Hei, they restrained him on the ground.

"Don't stop me, don't stop me!"

Li Hu struggled on the ground, getting himself covered in mud.

He disliked seeing this fake Li Sujin even more than Li Hei; every time he saw her, his heart ached.

"Husband, I beg you, please don't hurt yourself anymore!" Li Sujin cried out. "Do you even know what you're doing?"

"Leave me alone! I'm hitting someone you can't see!" Li Hu stubbornly tried to break free from his restrained hands, kicking his legs desperately on the ground.

But no matter what they did, they couldn't shake Li Hei's control.

"You're hurting yourself, do you know that?!" Li Sujin cried, her heart aching.

Why are you hitting yourself?

"Hitting yourself?"

Li Hu belatedly realized what was happening, but immediately shook his head and said, "No, Li Bai's ability is to reflect damage; I didn't hit myself!"

"How could I hit myself?" Li Hu shook his head, still refusing to believe it.

Just then, Li Hei suddenly said something that sent chills down Li Hu's spine: "Li Hu, since you don't like this Li Sujin that Li Bai tricked out, why don't I help you kill her?"

"Let's get everything back on track, so you two can stop arguing."

After saying that, Li Hei freed one hand and reached out to grab Li Sujin's head.

Li Sujin felt Li Hu grab her head, her eyes instantly filled with confusion, and she froze, not resisting, as if she had encountered something unbelievable.

"No!" Li Hu and Li Bai shouted at the same time.

"As long as you two stop fighting, I won't hurt her." Li Hei said in a low voice, pressing his hand on Li Sujin's head like a headmaster.

"Brother Li Hei, please, have mercy on me, let go of my hand, I beg you!" Li Bai knelt on the ground, his face filled with terror, his pupils constricted, and pressed his hand down on Li Hei from a distance.

Li Hu also raised his hands in surrender. Although he was still somewhat unwilling, he honestly said, "I won't fight anymore, please don't hurt her."

Li Hei's presence was like a nuclear bomb, making both of them hesitant to act rashly.

Seeing this, Li Hei also let go, and Li Sujin suddenly collapsed. Li Hu hurriedly stepped forward to support her. Looking at Li Sujin's pitiful appearance, Li Hu felt as if his heart was being torn apart.

"Husband, are you going to kill me?" Li Sujin stared blankly at Li Hu and said sadly.

"No, no." Li Hu shook his head desperately.

No matter how slow Li Hu was to grasp the situation, he finally realized what was happening.

Li Hei and Li Bai are probably split versions of himself.

His desire to revive Li Sujin and kill the fake Li Sujin were merely subconscious thoughts.

"But my husband, the murderous intent in your eyes is real," Li Sujin said in disbelief, her face streaked with tears.

Li Hu wanted to explain, and opened his mouth several times, but still didn't know how to bring it up.

However, still wanting to find out, he tentatively asked, "Do you remember the skill of 'talking about repairs' that Old Yuan taught me yesterday? You were there too."

"You mean, I'm a fabricated dummy?" Li Sujin asked.

"Although I don't really want to admit it, I think so," Li Hu nodded in despair.

"Hmph, it's obviously fake!" Li Bai interrupted fiercely.

"Shut up!" Li Hu roared. "If it was fake, why did you kneel down and beg for mercy from Li Hei just now?"

Li Bai was also rebuffed when he heard this, so he turned his head away and ignored Li Hu.

"Husband, husband, calm down." Li Sujin looked at Li Hu who was talking to himself and quickly patted his shoulder.

"Husband, if you say I'm lying, but..." Li Sujin's tears fell like pearls from a broken string.

"But I clearly remember everything. Every little thing we did together, the night we got married, I was the one who taught you. We've been married for so many years, I, I clearly remember everything!" Li Sujin spoke haltingly, somewhat at a loss, but still tried her best to explain.

"I know, I know."

Li Hu's eyes reddened, and he was struggling internally; he was truly at his wit's end.

"No, Li Hu, I think there's at least a 50% chance she's real."

At this moment, Li Hei suddenly interjected,

"Think about it, why would the Queen Mother of the West bring her body to the Jade Palace after her death? What use would the Jade Palace have for a woman's corpse?"

"Is it possible that Li Bai was just scaring you, and that the Queen Mother of the West actually resurrected Su Jin and then released her back?"

"Otherwise, there's no reason why even if Su Jin committed suicide, the Queen Mother of the West would still want you dead. Wouldn't Su Jin's death have been in vain?"

Li Hei's analysis was very logical, but Li Hu no longer dared to believe it.

Li Hu stood up listlessly, his eyes vacant, and walked silently into the distance.

He stepped onto the ground, which was already starting to freeze, ignoring all the sounds, like a living dead.

By this time, Ji Heng had already brought tents and set up many temporary shelters in the ruins of Qingyuan County.

Li Hu randomly found a tent, crawled inside, squatted in a corner, covered his ears, and refused to care about what was happening outside.

It's as if simply covering your ears will make all the difficulties outside disappear.

Li Sujin didn't go looking for Li Hu again; she had overheard Li Hu and Li Hei's private conversation.

She also felt that she might be an imposter, but that didn't matter anymore; the many injured people in front of her were real.

After struggling for only a moment, Li Sujin tightened her apron and cuffs and continued to fulfill her responsibilities as a doctor.

She calmly and silently treated the wounds of one injured person after another, arranged for every child who could not find their family to enter a tent, accurately directed Ji Heng to dig through the rubble to rescue people, and then gathered the displaced people together, lit a bonfire for them, distributed food, and boosted their morale.

Li Hu sat in the tent for two days, during which Li Bai and Li Hei kept chattering around him, but Li Hu was too lazy to pay attention to them.

During this time, he flipped through the book "The True Explanation of the Three Corpses," trying to figure out what was going on.

But suddenly I realized that I couldn't understand the second half of the book.

Each character looked like a mosquito crawling across the surface, and the ink even seemed to be moving rhythmically, but Li Hu just couldn't make out what was written on it.

However, Li Hu was certain that he had not become illiterate, because he could understand and still remember the first half of the book that guided him to find the other two corpses and swallow them.

So Li Hu simply stopped trying to read it, threw the book aside, and wrapped himself in a blanket to slack off.

However, Li Hei and Li Bai were very interested in the second half of the book. They picked up the book that Li Hu had thrown away, leaned against each other, and read it with great interest, occasionally exchanging a few words and sharing their reading insights.

"This book is wonderful! Absolutely wonderful!"

Engrossed in the sight, Li Bai even started dancing around inside the tent, nearly breaking the main beam.

It's getting colder and colder outside; a rough estimate suggests it's already below minus thirty degrees Celsius.

The wheat had all frozen to death in the ground, and apart from some hardy coniferous pine forests, the vast majority of plants had also died.

Spring had just passed, and the greenery that had finally sprouted in this land was wiped out, and it was difficult to find any wild animals around.

The heavy snow fell, and all around was deathly silent.

However, the people of Qingyuan were very resilient. Although the county magistrate had gone mad, his wife, an iron lady, had been at the forefront of disaster relief efforts. Moreover, a warehouse that suddenly appeared in the east of the city contained an unimaginable amount of supplies. No one knew when it appeared, but it was truly a timely help.

The clerk of the yamen was always at the forefront. This man, who was always seen by the people as a monkey jumping around and even looked a bit timid and sleazy, always managed to lead his men to find the supplies hidden in the ruins with great precision.

Even the original owners of the ruins often didn't know when they had hidden so many things in their homes.

The remarkable advisor was like a hunting dog, so the people of Qingyuan County did not suffer too much from hunger and cold.

Some restless people have even started cutting down trees to build houses that are warmer.

The chubby fellow who used to follow the county magistrate was a master cook. He could feed ten people with the food meant for three. The people would respectfully call him "Great Immortal" when they saw him.

Even the county magistrate, who used to always have a cold expression that seemed to say "keep away," would take the initiative to hang a luminous pearl in the sky to light up the camp. The people called him "Lamp Master."

The young man who always carried a sword also began helping the people cut down trees and build houses.

The girl dressed in animal clothing was the leader of the children here. All the orphans in the county were gathered together and cared for by people from the whole county. This girl, who had a bit of body odor, was like a mother to the children.

Everyone is doing their part, and the disasters brought by Mahakala are being gradually eliminated by the people here.

However, of all the people, only one person was missing.

Li Sujin could no longer bear it, so she lifted the tent flap and barged in.

"The Three Corpses are: the Upper Corpse, Pengju, resides in the brain palace, attacks the Niwan point (the area above the head), and loves fine clothes and luxurious garments... Haha! Li Hu, is this talking about you?"

In front of Li Sujin, Li Hu muttered to himself in a high-pitched tone.

"No, no, no, I think there's a mistake here. In fact, Peng Ju should be the person closest to the one before his ascension. He can't be simply regarded as a worm residing in the brain." Li Hu said in a deep voice.

"What on earth are you talking about?" Li Sujin asked angrily, grabbing Li Hu's collar, completely bewildered.

"Does it really matter whether I'm real or not?!"

"A real man hides in a tent like a coward when everyone needs him, acting crazy. Do you know what the people are saying about you?"

Li Hu glanced at Li Sujin, then smiled and said:

"Hehe, Li Hei, let's ignore her and keep reading. This book is really wonderful."
