Chapter 45 The father-in-law summons him.

The next morning.

Su Mobai had just come out from Keisha's place and hadn't even had a chance to go back to his own courtyard for a drink of water when a servant was waiting for him at the end of the corridor.

"Mr. Su."

The servant bowed and said, "The lord requests your presence."

Su Mobai stopped in his tracks.

coming.

The day has finally come.

He was thoroughly exhausted from Liang Bing's ordeal yesterday afternoon, and when he got home last night, he felt like he had been taken apart and put back together by his two sisters. He still didn't get a good night's sleep, and this morning he went to Keisha's place again.

Now Vislan is looking for him.

Don't think about it.

Nine times out of ten, it's a conversation with the parents.

Su Mobai straightened his collar, making sure there were no strange marks, before nodding and saying, "Lead the way."

The servant said nothing and turned to walk toward the lord's office.

This journey was quieter than the previous ones.

Su Mobai looked at the reliefs on both sides of the corridor and began to mentally prepare his script.

First, you must have the right attitude.

Second, you must not feel guilty.

Third, one must resolutely refuse to admit that one is being completely controlled by one of one's two daughters.

Fourth, you should call him father-in-law.

Anyway, we've already come this far.

Why not call it a day?

The office door was pushed open.

Vislan sat behind the long table, with not much in front of him except a wine glass and a few silver tokens. The sunlight from the window fell on his shoulders, making his dark casual clothes appear somewhat heavy.

Su Mobai entered the room and bowed his head in greeting.

"Father-in-law."

The servant at the door trembled slightly.

Vislan looked up at him.

The room was quiet for a couple of breaths.

Su Mobai stood very steadily.

As long as he isn't embarrassed, it's others who are embarrassed.

Vislan stared at him for a moment, then suddenly laughed.

"You really dare to shout that."

He gestured with his hand, "Sit."

Su Mobai sat down.

The chair was neither too close nor too far, directly opposite the long table.

This distance is good.

It's convenient for conversation, and it also makes it easy for Vislan to take him to the ground at any time.

Vislan looked at him for a while, then suddenly asked, "Have you been doing well these past few days?"

Su Mobai blinked.

This question sounds dangerous no matter how you look at it.

He said cautiously, "Thanks to my father-in-law's care, I've had good food and comfortable accommodations."

"Good morning?"

Su Mobai:

Vislan picked up his glass, but didn't drink; he just slowly swirled it. "How about an afternoon?"

Su Mobai remained silent for a moment.

broken.

That old fox really knows everything.

There is no such thing as privacy in a lord's manor.

Su Mobai sighed inwardly, but maintained a composed demeanor, saying, "Everything is fine."

"It's just fine?"

"very good."

Vislan looked at him. "You don't seem to mind at all."

Su Mobai rubbed his temples. "It's no use trying to avoid it. Since my father-in-law called me here to ask, he must already know the gist of it. If I pretend to be ignorant, it would seem disrespectful to you."

11

A hint of amusement flickered in Vislan's eyes, but not much.

"Good to know."

He put down his glass, his voice calming down. "Keisha has always been steady and prefers to handle things on her own. Liang Bing may see this as nonsense, but she's not unaware of it. Their interest in you is their own choice."

Su Mobai didn't interrupt.

Vislan continued, "But you must remember, they are not ordinary girls."

"I know."

"You don't know," Vislan looked at him, "what you see now is only the side they want you to see."

Su Mobai listened attentively.

This is true.

No matter how bold Keisha is, she's still holding back with him now.

No matter how much Liang Bing made a scene, she didn't actually hurt him.

Vislan tapped the tabletop lightly with his finger.

"If you just want to play around, you should say so now."

Su Mobai looked up.

Vislan's voice wasn't loud. "I can send you off Melos right now. With your skills, you can live quite well anywhere else. Staying away from them is better for you."

Su Mobai looked at him but did not answer immediately.

A gust of wind blew in through the window, lifting a piece of paper from the corner of the table, which was then casually pressed down by Vislan.

Su Mobai suddenly smiled.

"Father-in-law, is this the last time you're going to try to persuade him to quit?"

Vislan looked at him.

Su Mobai said, "You don't need to scare me."

"Am I trying to scare you?"

"Hmm." Su Mobai nodded, while Vislan's eyes narrowed slightly.

Su Mobai continued, "If you really wanted me to leave, you wouldn't have waited until today. You wouldn't have given me that courtyard on the east side of the inner courtyard, and you certainly wouldn't have let me sit between Keisha and Liang Bing at the banquet."

He paused here.

"You just want to see if I'll back down."

Vislan didn't speak.

Su Mobai lowered his head and smiled. "To be honest, I've been quite panicked these past few days. Wangxing Academy, Hua Quewang, Hua Ye, and the various noble families. None of them are easy to mess with. But since I've already told you in front of you that I want to pursue those two, it would be too embarrassing to say I'm leaving now."

Vislan said, "It's better to lose face than to lose your life."

"That depends on why you lost your life." Su Mobai raised his head. "If you were beaten to death for being a smart aleck, then it's really not worth it."

He paused, his tone dropping the joke.

"But if it's for Keisha and Liang Bing, then I might consider it."

There was a moment of silence in the office.

Vislan stared at him for a long time.

Su Mobai did not dodge.

"Remember what you said."

Su Mobai nodded. "I've got it."

Vislan picked up a token from the long table and pushed it in front of him.

The token was thinner than the one at Su Mobai's residence, with military patterns of the Merlo Star engraved on the edges and a very thin blue light in the middle.

"In two days, we will set off for Wangxing."

1

Su Mobai was taken aback.

"In a couple of days?"

This time, he really couldn't hold back.

School starts in a month, and he originally thought he could stay on Mero Star for at least a few more weeks. But he's leaving in just two days?

That's too fast.

Seeing his reaction, Vislan said, "The academy starts in a month, but that doesn't mean you won't go for a month. Wang Xing will arrange accommodations in advance, help you familiarize yourself with the environment, and meet some people."

Su Mobai frowned.

"So urgent?"

"It's not the academy that's in a hurry," Vislan said. "It's the situation."

Vislan didn't elaborate.

But that's enough.

At the banquet hosted by Hua Que Wang, the academy was announced, with classes beginning in a month. The younger generation from various families would all be heading to Wang Xing. Each family would inevitably make moves beforehand; some would try to win them over, some would test them, and some would try to sabotage them.

If Keisha and Liang Bing hesitate to act, they risk being caught in a trap set up in advance.

Go to Wangxing first, at least you can see the chessboard first.

Su Mobai looked at the token on the table. "What's this?"

"Order to deploy bodyguards from Planet Melo".

"Give me?"

"for you."

Su Mobai was taken aback. "I can mobilize people?"

"A small amount," Vislan said. "Not much, but enough for you to give orders when necessary."

Su Mobai looked down at the token.

By giving him the token that allowed him to mobilize the guards, Vislan was essentially putting him into Keisha and Liang Bing's safe zone.

He has to take responsibility.

Vislan looked at him. "Once we get to Wangxing, Keisha will be even more conspicuous than she is now. The same goes for Liang Bing. Their identities, their personalities, and you—all of them are enough to attract a lot of attention."

Su Mobai said, "Especially Hua Ye."

Vislan's eyes turned slightly cold. "Yes."

"Hua Ye will not let this go."

"He'll find an opportunity," Vislan's voice deepened, "It could be overt or covert. Wangxing isn't Melos; I can't protect them all the time."

Su Mobai pressed his fingertip on the command token.

"So you want me to protect them."

"It's not about wanting it."

Vislan looked at him and said, "Since you've taken that position, you should do this."

Su Mobai remained silent for a moment, then picked up the token.

"clear."

Vislan stared at him. "It's not just talk."

1

"I know."

Su Mobai nodded.
