History Park: Starting with the Imjin War

Chapter 30 Encountering the Enemy

Yan Qi spread the piece of material out between her fingertips and showed it to everyone.

"It was hung down."

"You figured it out again?"

Liu Gao is now somewhat numb.

"The torn edges will be straight."

Yan Qi tapped a corner of the material with her fingernail. "When it hangs down, the stress will be uneven, and this corner has been stretched first."

"Is he still alive?"

Liu Gao blurted it out.

"At least it was still alive when it was hung up."

Lin Jundao.

Zhou Hu, leading the way, left behind a sentence:

"continue."

Just two words.

The group immediately continued on their way.

The terrain is starting to become steep.

The horses were no longer easy to ride, so the group simply got off.

With one hand on the door and the other pulling the horse, Liu Gao began to pant after walking only a short distance, and sweat even appeared on his forehead.

"I understand now."

"Understand what?" Mochin asked.

"The door panel is really quite heavy."

"You're only realizing this now?"

"Back then, carrying a couple of steps in the camp was nothing."

Liu Gao grinned, "As soon as we got up the mountain, it started to look like a coffin lid."

Lin Jun looked at him.

"Just treat it as aerobic exercise."

"What???"

Just as Liu Gao was about to ask further, Yan Qi made a gesture.

"Don't make a sound."

This time, he squatted even lower, almost pressing half his face against the snow.

"This isn't right."

Several people gathered around, and in front of them was a small slope.

The snow on the slope was blown unevenly by the wind, and it looked messy on the surface, but upon closer inspection, there were still some things there.

A very shallow drag mark, intermittent, doesn't look like someone slowly dragging a heavy object, but more like someone slipped and their body was pulled down.

On a nearby rock corner, there was still some material smeared on it, its color still grayish-blue.

Further to the right, beneath the frozen snow, there is a very light dark red.

There was also a scratch mark on the side, made by fingers.

"Someone rolled down from here," Yan Qi said.

"one?"

Lin Jun asked.

"First one. Then three more people came chasing down from above."

Liu Gao couldn't help but ask again, "How did you figure that out?"

Yan Qi pointed to the few disjointed footprints between two crooked pine trees on the slope.

"When someone rolls downhill, the tracks become messy, and the snow is churned up in large patches. The person chasing behind will have their feet sink into the ground more heavily, and they will step down first and then slide outwards. Look at these spots, the heels are shallow, and the balls of the feet are deep. It's because they are pressing down as they chase."

Mo Qin squatted down to take a look, and sure enough, it was so.

When we reached the frontmost section of the slope, the cliff edge finally came into view.

It wasn't particularly high, but it was very dark below, with snow and mist rising into the night, obscuring the bottom.

Next to a protruding rock, there was a clear crater in the snow, as if someone had rolled down there and made it.

"This is it."

Lin Jun said in a low voice.

Old Ding squatted down and gently brushed away the thin layer of snow on the cliff edge with a tree branch.

"People have gone down from here."

"And there's more than one."

Zhou Hu stood at the very front, looking down for a few moments.

"There is a gentle slope below."

"The snow is very thick. People might not die if they go down here."

He frowned as soon as he finished speaking.

A sound came from the woods behind them.

click!

Inside the dilapidated temple, the brazier burned brightly.

The prince, draped in a cloak, sat by the fire, slowly turning the wine cup in his hand.

The firelight illuminated his profile, making him appear even more somber.

Those kneeling below didn't dare to raise their heads.

"In that case," the prince said slowly, his tone unhurried, "those Japanese didn't accomplish anything either."

"Replying to your question, sir..."

"Don't bother with this nonsense."

The prince waved his hand gently, "Only look at the results."

"As a result, even the high-ranking assassins they hired from Paradise couldn't clean things up properly. Shen Weijing is still alive."

As he said this, a smirk appeared on his face.

"The Japanese are indeed useless."

"No wonder Father Emperor used to say that they were petty and only good at small things, not capable of great things."

The people inside were practically burying their heads in their crotches!

No one dared to respond to that.

The prince slowly took another sip of wine.

"Those Japanese were so confident before. They said it was a sure thing, that cooperating with them was a piece of cake, and that killing someone would be as easy as slicing tofu. Now it seems that even slicing tofu depends on how sharp the knife is."

"The knife is dull, and the person is stupid; it's no wonder they made a fool of themselves."

After he finished speaking, he looked at the wind and snow outside the temple gate. His voice wasn't fierce, but it sent chills down people's spines.

"I originally thought I wouldn't have to lift a finger this time. It would be great if others were willing to help. Who would have thought that after waiting and waiting, I'd only end up with a bunch of useless people. It's a shame I even lent them some help!"

In the end, I still have to clean up this mess myself!

One of the men below quickly whispered:

"Those people laid an ambush, just waiting for Li Rusong's men to sneak into the area..."

"That's good."

The prince interrupted him, "Tell them not to rush. Finding the prey isn't a skill. Only when everyone is gathered can we stop and settle the matter."

He smiled faintly as he said this.

"Myna has been lying low in the capital and has achieved considerable success. The chairman has high praise for him."

"If people laugh at me like this, I'll lose face when I return to Paradise and meet Father Emperor and the Guild Master!"

The charcoal in the brazier made a popping sound.

As soon as the words "Father Emperor" were uttered, only suppressed breathing could be heard in the temple.

The prince said no more and simply raised his hand.

"Go."

"What the Japanese can't do, I will do. Tonight, let's see how they die."

The people below retreated one after another.

Only the prince remained by the brazier.

He slowly drank the remaining wine in the cup.

Gazing at the wind and snow outside the temple gate, he gently rubbed his thumb against the katana beside him.

It looks like it's counting something, or waiting for something.

With a click, everyone turned around at the same time.

The wind and snow intensified, causing the shadows of the trees to sway wildly.

A dark figure emerged from behind the tree.

He carried a narrow knife, was tall and slender, and walked at a leisurely pace.

Next is the second one.

The man had extremely broad shoulders, and both hands were covered with iron gloves with blunt nails protruding from his knuckles.

Liu Gao's expression changed after just one glance.

"It's him..."

That night in front of the stable, this man nearly broke Mo Qin's ribs with a single punch.

The third, the fourth, the fifth.

It was as if people had sprung up from the snow, standing up one after another.

There were also people carrying bows, the last to come out, their bow arms were longer than Yan Qi's, and their quiver was densely filled with arrows.

Some were armed with their weapons close to their sleeves, while others had nothing at all.

The opposing team consisted of seven people, and their positioning was extremely sophisticated.

Unwittingly, they had blocked half of the way back for Mo Qin and the others.

The somber scene made Liu Gao grip the door panel even tighter.

Zhou Hu said in a low voice:

"Yan Qi, bow."

"Liu Gao, shield."

"Old Ding, behind you."

He didn't mention Mochin by name.

But Mochin reacted quickly, raising his white wax spear.

The person at the front didn't brandish a weapon; he simply raised his hand and pointed towards the cliff edge.

It's as if it's saying:

You have no way out.

The wind and snow passed between the two groups of people.

The cliff is in front of us.

The enemy is behind us.
