Chapter 391 Relics

Chapter 391 Relics

"So this is what it is."

In a spacious room, sitting on the sofa, Adir finished reading several books in his hands, and then his expression became somewhat strange.

By this time, some time had passed since Lyon came knocking on their door.

After agreeing to the other party's conditions, the fog outside began to dissipate a few days later, and Adir's family was properly settled.

Coral, overjoyed with his appointment, went to become a sheriff, achieving a dramatic turnaround in his life, going from the lowest-ranking officer to the highest-ranking sheriff, much to the astonishment of his many old friends.

Tilly was similar; after depositing the huge sum of money he had obtained into the bank, Lyon also arranged for her to attend the best private academy in the area.

As for Adir, at his own request, he entered the largest local library and spent time browsing through various documents.

Every day, under Leon's orders and through looting, many new books are delivered, including those revealing the deep secrets of this world and research on curses and psychics.

"So this is what a so-called psychic is like."

Adir gently closed the book in his hand, shook his head, and looked somewhat disappointed.

The supernatural system in this world is quite unique, seemingly designed entirely to counter curses.

In many countries around the world, numerous paranormal events occur every day. These events are categorized as curses and classified into various levels according to their power.

As for the main force fighting the curse in this world, the so-called psychics, Adir was somewhat disappointed.

In this world, psychics primarily rely on the power of their bloodline. Every psychic's ancestor must have been an awakened being, and thus, compared to ordinary people, they inherit some of the awakened being's power, or spiritual power, from their blood.

By continuously nourishing the spiritual power within the body through secret methods, once the spiritual power within the body becomes strong enough, one can seek out certain special cursed objects. After subduing the curse with one's own spiritual power, one can obtain a portion of the power of the cursed object and leap into becoming a powerful spirit medium.

This is the origin of the psychics in this world, and also the reason for Adir's disappointment.

"So-called spiritual power is the power passed down in one's bloodline, which ordinary people cannot acquire through learning."

"Those so-called psychics rely entirely on external power. If they want to become stronger, they can only keep looking for stronger cursed objects to replace them. They have no learning value whatsoever."

Shaking his head, Adir thought about the information in his mind and felt somewhat disappointed.

This unique system of supernatural beings is entirely based on fate. Whether a person can become a powerful psychic depends entirely on their bloodline and the cursed artifacts they possess. There is very little to learn from them.

While wizards and knights are also subject to fate, and at least have aptitude requirements in the early stages, they have a complete and well-coordinated system. As long as the conditions are right, they can advance all the way to the peak, which is much better than the completely fate-based system of psychics.

A psychic's own bloodline has its limits; no matter how powerful the spiritual energy within them, they can never surpass the first generation of awakened beings. As for cursed items, they are even rarer, only possible to be born within curses, and are not only scarce in number but also extremely difficult to obtain.

This limits the quality and quantity of spiritualists in this world, causing them to remain at a certain level and unable to break through to a higher level.

"But then, it makes sense that Leon cares so much about me, an Awakened One."

Silently standing up, Adir looked up at the bright sunlight outside the room.

Clearly, some of Adir's previous actions were seen by certain people in this world as those of an awakened being.

Only the first-generation awakened beings can fight the curse without relying on cursed objects, and can do so solely through their own power.

"It was a lucky accident, I guess."

Having considered this, he didn't have much to say.

Bang...bang...bang...

Just then, a soft knock came from outside the door, accompanied by a girl's soft and gentle voice.

"Mr. Sim, the Governor of Lyon requests your presence."

"Tell the governor I'll be there soon." Turning around slightly, Adir wasn't surprised to hear this.

He walked around for a while, then neatly put down a few books, straightened his clothes, and went outside.

The corridors along the way required servants and maids to move around, and upon seeing Adir, they all lowered their heads slightly, afraid of attracting his attention.

He didn't walk for long; a few minutes later, he arrived at a spacious living room.

In the living room, Leon, dressed in a black trench coat, looked very serious as he earnestly discussed something with a middle-aged man beside him.

Through his keen mental power, Adir gleaned some information from the conversation that seemed to be related to the forbidden area and the curse.

"Sim, you're here."

Upon seeing Adir walk in from outside, Sim and the other man stopped talking and looked at him with friendly expressions, appearing very approachable.

"Come, let me introduce you. This is Baron Venus, you can call him Mr. Venus."

He looked at the middle-aged man standing beside him and enthusiastically introduced him to Adir.

"Hello, Sim."

Venus wore a stiff smile as she looked intently at Adir, as if trying to memorize his face.

He looked to be around forty years old, wearing a long red robe, with a stiff expression on his face and some long beard. He looked like an ordinary middle-aged man, completely unremarkable at first glance.

However, despite this on the surface, Adir would not underestimate his opponent.

Within the other person's body, there is a unique power flowing, similar to the power within Teresa's body, but far stronger than Teresa's.

"A psychic?"

The thought flashed through his mind, but on the surface, Adir smiled politely, looking like an ordinary shy boy.

"I asked you to come here today because I hope you can help me with something."

Looking at Adir, Leon didn't waste any words and went straight to the point: "We're going to a place that might be a bit dangerous."

"For safety reasons, I'd like you to come with us in three days. Is that alright?"

He bent down, looked at Adir, and made a very sincere request.

"Can."

Adir glanced at Venus beside him and nodded without much hesitation.

He could foresee that the place the other party mentioned was most likely a cursed land, where terrifying curses probably lingered.

However, this is just right.

For others, even psychics, curses are something to be terrified of, but for Adir, they are somewhat useful, at least for harvesting world energy.

However, despite thinking this in his heart, he remained outwardly calm, simply nodding quietly before turning and walking away, showing no intention of staying.

"An awakened individual at the age of twelve is quite rare."

In the living room behind, Venus watched Adir's figure disappear from sight, feeling somewhat sentimental.

"I was surprised when I first heard the news," Leon said, raising his head and smiling. "Although he's younger, that's an advantage in some ways."

"Compared to those awakened individuals who inexplicably hostile to us, this child is much more lovable."

"Indeed." Hearing this, Venus nodded in agreement.

The awakening of the awakened is completely unpredictable and is only related to physical constitution and will.

In recent years, as the curse has become more active, awakened individuals have begun to emerge in various kingdoms, including the Kingdom of Purple Gold Flower.

However, due to their awakening, these awakened individuals are all unruly and arrogant. Relying on the power they possess after awakening, they even dare to directly rebel against the rule of various countries, causing numerous bloodshed incidents in a short period of time.

Several months ago, in the capital of the Purple Gold Flower Kingdom, there was such a case of an awakened person rising up suddenly.

A member of a small, oppressed family suddenly awakens and, after gaining immense power, his first act is to kill his family's enemy, a hereditary viscount, along with all of his clansmen. He then flees and has yet to be found.

In comparison, Adir, the awakened one, is much more satisfactory. He is not from any other noble family, and he is only twelve years old this year. He is still very malleable and will not suddenly start a fight to hurt people.

"By the way, how's the situation in the capital?"

After chatting for a while, Leon seemed to suddenly remember something and looked at Venus beside him, asking a question.

"This is bad." Venus shook her head. "His Majesty is seriously ill, and the princes are fighting amongst themselves. They simply don't have the strength to suppress the forbidden area..."

"Looks like we'll have to rely on ourselves." Leon sneered. "But that's fine, it saves us from being tied down."

"There's another piece of news." Venus hesitated. "Judging from the current situation, the next opening of Nightmare Manor is not far off. Should we send someone in?"

"Of course I want to." Leon nodded without hesitation. "Nightmare Manor is a forbidden area that produces many cursed items. Since we've come across it, we certainly can't miss it."

"But that would make our manpower shortage even more severe..."

·······················

The intermittent words kept brushing past my ears, gradually becoming blurred and faint.

Standing on the balcony, using his powerful mental abilities to secretly listen to parts of Leon's conversation with the Venus spy, Adir's expression remained unchanged: "Nightmare Manor... another familiar name."

Before the curse erupted at the Holy Grace Academy, he had contacted Teresa once, and they reached an initial cooperation agreement.

At the time, the other party wanted him to enter Nightmare Manor once and take something from it.

Now it seems that what the other party wants him to retrieve might be a cursed object.

"Forbidden area?"

Thinking of the legends of Nightmare Manor, he murmured to himself, then turned and left the balcony.

At noon the next day, several black police cars drove along the wide road, heading into the distance.

"Have we arrived yet?"

Sitting in the front police car, after looking at the surrounding terrain, Coral checked the map in his hand and asked the officer next to him a question.

Compared to his impoverished past, Coral had changed a lot. Not only had he changed out of his police uniform into a black tuxedo, but he also looked much more energetic. His once cold and gloomy face now had a touch of authority, making him look quite respectable.

He sat in the back seat of the car, looking at the terrain, with a little boy who looked to be about ten years old sitting next to him.

"Lord Coral, we're almost there." The police officer in charge of driving responded after comparing the terrain.

"Hmm." Coral nodded coldly, then turned to the boy beside him, his expression softening slightly; "Sim, did you sense anything?"

Hearing his words, the boy finally reacted, no longer looking out the window, but fixing his gaze on Coral: "No."

"Not yet?" Coral murmured. "Looks like we need to go in a little further."

Boom!

A cracking sound suddenly rang out, like a piece of explosive detonating instantly, causing a loud noise in the surrounding area.

In the sky, countless flying stones fell from the heavens, carrying endless dust as they landed, their target seemingly Kolar's side.

Under the horrified gazes of countless people, the flying rocks and dust fell rapidly, about to crash onto the vehicles.

Splash...

A faint ripple emerged from mid-air, and at that moment, a silvery radiance spread, with energy particles boiling and reacting, instantly forming a small barrier that deflected all matter that was thrown at it.

Distorted Barrier!

This was the first spell that Adir solidified, and also the first level one spell that Adir mastered. At this moment, he managed to summon a little magic power and cast it again.

In the sky, all the dust and falling rocks disappeared, instantly distorted by a tremendous force, and crashed back in the direction they came from, causing no harm to anyone.

*Slap...slap...slap...*

Loud applause came from behind.

Behind Adir, Leon, dressed in a black trench coat, clapped as he walked towards Adir: "You reacted quickly, otherwise this would have been troublesome."

"It's what Sim should do." Coral said, bowing slightly as he looked at Lyon walking behind him.

"It seems there are people in here who don't welcome us in." Leon walked up to Coral, nodded to him, then walked to Adir's side and looked up ahead.

In his vision, there was only smoke and darkness ahead, with streams of black power enveloping the surroundings, occasionally lingering and rising into the sky, staining the entire heavens with a touch of black.

This is a site that looks very old.

On the land, remnants of ancient buildings still stand, covered in sand and dust that blows incessantly, accompanied by low, mournful wind whistling.
