Chapter 73 Duel Invitation

"Click!"

With a crisp cracking sound, the light barrier surrounding Gareth finally shattered under the combined attack of the crowd.

In that instant, the entire team moved in perfect unison, turning around and running in different directions!

Meanwhile, the spirits of the cavalry captain, the shield guard captain, and the three archer squad leaders who were summoned later and kept shooting arrows at him also turned into wisps of smoke and disappeared.

You Che immediately stopped in his tracks.

He took out a bottle of energy potion sponsored by a certain baron and drank it all in one gulp. Then he looked ahead and saw that Commander Gareth had already stood a few meters away from him with his lance.

Similarly, he didn't even glance at the others who had spread out their distance.

Seeing this, You Che laughed and said, "Aren't you planning to attack the weakest link in our team first?"

Gareth looked at him: "If it's to defeat you, then I can certainly do it. I'm not as restricted by this labyrinth as the others."

"But since you know this labyrinth so well, you must also know that for me, the outcome of a particular battle with an adventurer's party is completely meaningless."

"Comparatively speaking, I'm more interested in you as a person."

Gareth paused for a moment, then added, "Besides, I always feel that even if I defeat all your companions and send them out of the maze, you'll still have other ways."

You Che was taken aback, then chuckled: "Then you overestimated me—never mind, you guessed pretty accurately."

He initially wanted to cover it up, but then he thought better of it and decided not to bother.

First, I'm confident and capable of soloing you; my speedrun record is... well, you can't find it in this world.

However, this did not affect Yu Che's familiarity with the maze and its final boss, the Knight Commander. While dealing with other bosses required some anticipation, prediction, and improvisation, he had the Knight Commander's moves memorized perfectly when facing him.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have planned to head straight for this maze alone.

Gareth looked at Youche, not questioning his ability, but instead gripping his lance and pointing at him: "Then come on! Let me see your tactics!"

You Che smiled: "As you wish."

The next moment, he raised his hand and threw three daggers, pointing them straight at Gareth's head!

Gareth remained unmoved, and with a sweep of his lance, he shattered the three daggers!

However, after just this one move, Gareth looked ahead and found that Yuche had already created quite a distance between them.

"Hmph—I knew it."

He twitched the corners of his mouth, revealing a faint smile, and then without any hesitation, he took heavy but firm steps and chased after You Che!

Even clad in full heavy armor, Gareth's absolute speed surpassed that of You Che. He quickly closed the distance, then raised his lance high and roared, "Take this—Storm Thrust!"

He paused, gathered his strength, and then channeled his magic into his lance. A howling storm swept around him, propelling Gareth forward with his lance pointing straight ahead!

This thrusting skill is the signature skill of the Storm Knight, an advanced branch of the Knight class. It is basically an upgraded version of the original basic charge skill with added special effects.

This skill is not only faster, but more importantly, the storms are driven by the knight's own magic, which means that he can even turn around during the dash!

Although the turning angle is limited and it's impossible to rotate 180° on the spot to turn around and charge, this skill is quite useful in specific situations, such as in PVP chase battles.

The same applies to this moment.

Upon hearing Gareth's shout, You Che immediately raised his hand and released a chain, dragging himself to the side. However, Gareth simply turned his spear and chased after You Che!

However, Yu Che had anticipated this.

Based on the distance just now, if he chose the most extreme angle to release the chain, he could dodge Gareth's thrust, but he would not be able to avoid being grazed by the storm around him.

Needless to say, even a slight scratch would cause You Che to lose at least half of his health.

Gareth had also anticipated this.

Therefore, Yu Che did not expect to avoid the attack by relying on the Blood Chains. Instead, he spun around while sliding and threw the round shield in his hand!

Gareth paused slightly, realizing that the storm surrounding him had a certain ability to deflect projectiles. He was certain that You Che was aware of this. So, who exactly was he?

As he was wondering how You Che would respond, he suddenly felt a tightness under his foot. A large clump of vines that had been buried long ago broke through the ground the moment he was stepped on, tightly wrapping around his left leg!

Although Gareth snapped the vines immediately, his speed involuntarily slowed down for a moment, and the storm around him paused.

Just then, Youche's flying shield arrived, passing through a gap in the storm, and struck his helmet with a precise "clang"!

"Ugh—!!"

The impact was quite heavy, and crucially, Gareth collided with it while he was charging forward at high speed. The collision brought Gareth's sprint to a halt.

The cost of the knight's charge being interrupted was—

【dizziness!】

Although it was only a brief two-second stun, in that brief moment, the assassin Liz appeared behind him, her purple dagger plunging deep into the hole in Gareth's armor!

[Highly poisonous!]

The fact that Liz's dagger could alert both You Che and Qing Ling simultaneously meant that the poison on it was no ordinary poison. Judging from Gareth's rate of health loss, it must be one of the most potent poisons.

Liz struck and retreated immediately, followed by a three-shot burst of explosive arrows fired by Sean, which landed precisely on Gareth's helmet!

"Bang bang bang!!"

The explosive crossbow bolts were dropped by the crossbowmen in District 3, and Yuche had previously given them to Sean to use.

After the two attacks, Gareth recovered from the brief forced stun. Just as he was about to get up, he saw a reverse claw blade flying towards him!

"Pfft."

Gareth barely managed to turn to the side and dodge the blow, leaving only a shallow wound on the broken part of his left leg armor.

Gareth sensed the foreign magic invading his body, but the wound caused by the dagger was not deep enough to trigger a blood explosion.

Gareth smiled and looked up at You Che: "Looks like you miscalculated too—"

Before he could finish speaking, You Che smiled slightly at him, and then—raised his hand and released a blood-red chain!

The chain was much faster than the flying knife, arriving almost instantly and embedding itself in Gareth's leg without any resistance, instantly filling the Blood Explosion gauge!

"Pfft"

Gareth's left leg erupted in a cloud of blood, and he stumbled again, nearly falling to his knees.

"Ah—it turns out I missed a step."

Gareth, Commander of the Dawn Knights

[Level: 36]

[HP: 821/1000]

After a series of attacks, Gareth's health had dropped by nearly 20%, which seemed to have met some condition.

Suddenly he stood up, put down his lance, and drew his longsword, which he had not used before!

The sword was covered in cracks and was no longer in its original form, but it emitted a very peculiar luster.

As soon as he drew his sword, You Che's gaze fell on it and remained fixed.

Gareth let out a long laugh: "We can use this trick now—you should know what I'm going to do!"

As he spoke, he raised the sword in his hand high above his head, then swung it forward, pointing it at You Che!

At that moment, a notification popped up on Youche's personal panel.

[You have received a duel challenge from "Gareth, Commander of the Knights of Dawn." Will you accept?]

Yu Che's eyes flickered slightly, while Gareth laughed loudly and said, "Come on! What are you going to do?"
