Chapter 1015 Chapter 1011 The Honeymoon Period
Chapter 1015, First Update: The Honeymoon Period (First Update)
Bayonetta peered into the portable holographic projection device in front of her, finally unable to resist reaching out to tease the palm-sized projection model. "You look so cute, dear little boy," she said, her tone as affectionate as ever. The holographic projection of Salomon was as small as Thumbelina; a toad could easily carry him. He was looking down and fiddling with something, and although the scanning device faithfully reproduced the object in his hands, the model was so tiny that even with her glasses on, Bayonetta couldn't see it clearly.
"When are you planning to come back? Cheshire Cat is already complaining that she can only take care of the kids." She reached out and poked Salomon's illusory cheek, as if to remind her lover on the other side, "I think Cheshire Cat's mental health needs attention."
A little girl in a shark-themed pajama darted through the study, her short legs moving so fast they were almost invisible. She shot down the hallway like a chubby cannonball, accompanied by a silly laugh, followed by a sighing grey shorthair cat—the Cheshire Cat would pounce on the little girl before she bumped into a vase or sculpture, grabbing the shark-themed pajama and dragging her away from the danger. Salomon looked up and put down what he was carrying. Only then did Bayonetta realize it was a dismantled Guards helmet, seemingly undergoing a manual upgrade. Besides that, there were several disassembled firearms, explosive bullets, and some blades on the table. The distant engine sounds filled the microphone like a chorus; she could almost smell the approaching battle.
Salomon said with a mocking expression, "Is it the Cheshire Cat's or yours?"
"Yes, I have both," Bayonetta readily admitted. She picked up a piece of Turkish delight from the gift box in front of her and took a bite. "But since you sent me this dessert, we can discuss it later." The witch was wearing a white dress with a distinctly Greek style, and exquisite gold jewelry adorned the long dress, making it look less monotonous. This was an outfit for afternoon tea, with a casual theme, far less glamorous than the witch's usual attire when going out.
She already knew what Salomon was going to do. She had read *The Unified Truth*, and she and Joan of Arc had even done the proofreading of the Italian and French versions. While she understood the goodwill conveyed in *The Unified Truth* and saw the necessity of Salomon's actions amidst the dark prophecy, this didn't mean she was willing to join the war he had started. Her only request of Salomon was that he come home for dinner tonight and fulfill his duties as a husband. So far, Salomon had done a remarkable job; no matter how busy he was outside, he tried his best to create a warm and loving family atmosphere.
Bayonetta believed this was also good for Salomon's mental health, and in this regard, she was so domineering that she wouldn't let anyone interfere. Even when Constantine tried to persuade her to give Salomon more work time, all he received were two hundred consecutive pistol bullets hitting the same spot on his helmet, leaving Constantine exasperated. She knew Salomon wasn't truly cold-blooded; otherwise, he wouldn't have saved so many lives in war-torn regions. Bayonetta knew he was human, possessing human flaws and strengths. But when necessary, he would unhesitatingly sacrifice those lives to maximize their value, and it was hard to say that anyone could understand the anguish in his heart.
Salomon smiled and shook his head without answering, and instead began assembling Hammurabi's Praetorian Guard helmet.
He added a retinal projection to the AR HUD display, allowing the helmet to faithfully display the data from the power armor's built-in computer even when damaged. The experimental model he had would soon be distributed to the other members of the Royal Guard, becoming standard issue. Hammurabi and Constantine both received their own improved helmets, while Supilulius, being in South America, would have to wait for the next batch of supplies to arrive before receiving his.
Salomon skillfully assembled his custom-made explosive pistol, then crammed all the .75 caliber solid rocket-propelled armor-piercing ammunition on the table into a thirty-round magazine. This type of ammunition, which relied on the high temperatures generated by micro-nuclear fusion to destroy the composite material projectiles, was widely praised upon its introduction. When the Latvian regular army initially faced a disadvantage against lightly armored forces, it was the explosive machine guns (.75 caliber) supported by the Immortal City that turned the tide of the battle.
Even as subsequent armored reinforcements gradually filled the gap in this area, and as more and more Latvian youths enrolled in armored schools for short-term training, exposing them to laser and plasma weapons, the banging bomb gun remained the most powerful weapon in the minds of many Latvian soldiers. Even now, with several mentally challenged soldiers lying in field hospitals injured from improper use of bomb guns during training, the enthusiasm of Latvian youth for bomb guns remains undiminished, because they have all witnessed how easily bomb guns tore through the steel armor of the heavy armored vehicles purchased by the Latvian royal family.
"Let me see your office." Bayonetta took the hot coffee the maid brought her and gestured to Salomon. "The environment is a little different today than yesterday."
"Of course, of course." Salomon loaded his explosive rifle, then slung it over his waist and stepped out of the tent. Bayonetta's gaze followed the movement of the portable holographic projection device. When Salomon lifted the tent flap, a cacophony of noise from the camp rushed out. Tracked armored personnel carriers moved back and forth in front of the camp, dozens of self-propelled guns aimed their muzzles in the same direction, and more tanks were warming up their engines. Greasy black smoke rose in the distance, and the damp earth reflected the pale sunlight from the sky—this wasn't all Latvian regular army armored forces; a large portion of them had been deployed to the northern defense line, under Constantine's command, in preparation for a NATO attack.
"Today we've advanced to within 50 kilometers of the capital. Tomorrow we'll launch the offensive to capture it, and everyone's preparing for tomorrow's battle." He pointed to the distant castle spires and said, "Victor von Dum is currently negotiating with the Latvian royal family, demanding that they evacuate the civilians from the city. However, I don't think the negotiations will yield very good results; the royal family is holding the civilians hostage and is determined to drag us into urban warfare."
"What are you planning to do?"
"Constantine is on the northern frontier now. Hammurabi and I are more than enough to handle this," Salomon responded to the enthusiastic greetings from the passing logistics personnel, while nimbly dodging a goose that darted toward his feet. He had joined the war three days earlier, and with his help, the Latvian regular army had swiftly captured the villages surrounding the capital. Many soldiers had witnessed him, wielding a grenades pistol and a longsword, leading the vanguard against the Latvian royal tanks—many soldiers thought he would die. However, when they entered the villages, all they found were tank wreckage everywhere, and Salomon was sitting beside the burning debris, yawning.
Beside them was a menacing goose and a large group of rescued, panicked civilians.
The Latvians are quite accepting of the Royal Guard, with some even believing they are more powerful than Salomon. This is because the tall Royal Guard wears high-tech power armor and appears far stronger than Salomon, who is already taller than an average person. The Latvians haven't seen Salomon in armor yet, and the arcane mage doubts anyone will dare greet him—he's taller and stronger than the Royal Guard in power armor. A little magic could easily elevate his power to another level; it's not difficult for him. Salomon believes even the Hulk couldn't compare to him in power armor.
