Chapter 104 I'm Watching You
Chapter 104 I'm Watching You
"You should know you're not with S.H.I.E.L.D., right?" Nick Fury glanced at Salomon, who was sitting on a metal bucket. The sorcerer's legs were raised off the muddy ground, and Nick Fury could even see the brass buckles on his shoes in the dim light. The rain had long since stopped, but Salomon still refused to let mud splash onto his boots. Nick Fury said, "Now you have me sharing S.H.I.E.L.D. surveillance with you. Under what pretext?"
"Stop talking," Salomon sneered. "You S.H.I.E.L.D. always think you keep your secrets tighter than the boys in the choir's private parts, but we both know the truth: in front of me, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s security is weaker than Benedict XVI's penis. Do you take pride in keeping secrets? You're arrogant towards ordinary people because of your secrets, so I have reason to be arrogant towards you because of my secrets, since I know more about the secrets of this world than you do."
"You little bastard, you don't believe in God, do you?" Nick Fury said, still arguing with Salomon while looking down at his phone. "I bet you've never read the Bible."
"Believe me, I've read both the Old and New Testaments many times, especially the New Testament. At least the nauseating feeling it gave me wasn't nearly as strong as the Old Testament." Salomon frowned. "Abraham's burnt offerings and the expulsion of Hagar and Ishmael weren't piety, but servility—the very servility that the Sorcerer Supreme has always wanted humanity to break free from. Does God still need to govern family harmony? That's just a waste of time. Why not just create a world and a bunch of marionettes in six days? Marionettes don't rebel against their creator."
Look at those religious people: bishops and nuns having affairs, prostitutes shouting "God!", popes selling indulgences, Puritans using firearms and plague in the name of God to slaughter people, scalping them for pounds sterling—do you need me to say more? The people of this land, while betraying their faith, are incredibly devout, fearing to fall into hell. But if you ask me, believing in this stuff is no different from going to hell. There are even more denominations here than in Europe. Tell me, what is Scientology? What are Baptists and Mormons?
"Are you serious? I had no idea you were so radical?" Nick Fury stared at Salomon with his one eye for a long time. "You're Jewish! What do you believe in?"
"I don't believe in anything, I only follow order, the order of Kamar-Taj. You know where I hear the name of God the most? Not in churches, but in porn. That's right, I'm a lifetime member, registered under my senior's name." Salomon waved his hand impatiently. "So what if you're Jewish? You're black, and I haven't seen you practice voodoo! I wasn't baptized, even though I was born in a church, with gold, frankincense, and myrrh by my side. Hurry up, I don't have time to discuss faith with you."
"Alright. Agent Coulson complied with my orders and didn't harm him." Nick Fury leaned closer, holding his phone in front of Salomon. "Agent Coulson, the guy whose brain you guys messed up in Kamar-Taj, forced him to undergo interrogation. What do you want to see? Thor isn't anything special after his powers were sealed, just a bit stronger. Damn, this guy's really handsome; no wonder Jane Foster over there is smitten with him."
"I have no remorse for letting Coulson into a place he shouldn't have been. If he comes back, he'll never get out." Salomon swiped his finger across the phone screen, finally fixing the image on a temporary detention cell. After ordering his team to arrest Saul, Coulson had brought him here directly to be under surveillance. However, because Coulson still had some matters to attend to and was rearranging defenses, he left Saul there temporarily.
"Let's put aside what Kamar-Taj did to Agent Coulson for now and focus on our Thor. Oh, he looks a bit silly." Nick Fury zoomed in on Thor's face; Thor appeared expressionless, as if devoid of any soul. "Is this all you wanted to see? Do you want to keep this video to mock him later?"
"Of course not." Salomon zoomed out again, looking at Thor, who was staring blankly at the monitor screen. "Do you think that if Thor were in this situation, his rivals would try to eliminate him completely?"
"You mean, Loki will launch an attack?" Nick Fury jumped to his feet, asking nervously, "When?"
"Not now." Salomon opened a portal and retrieved a steaming hot dog topped with yellow mustard. He said, "They've known each other for over fifteen hundred years; they're brothers. Besides, Loki isn't that cold-blooded towards his own family; he's not the Allfather."
"You mean, Odin's methods are cruel." The one-eyed man narrowed his eyes again.
"Otherwise, how do you think Asgard conquered the Nine Realms and became a force that no one in the universe dared to provoke?" Salomon shook his head helplessly, taking a big bite of his hot dog. "The Allfather is the supreme ruler of the Nine Realms. If you dare to raise any objections in front of the Allfather, you won't even have the chance to be executed by Gungnir—at least that would make your death quicker."
"Wasn't Thor always leading troops in battle?" Nick Fury asked, somewhat puzzled. "What caused him to become like this?"
"Leading troops in battle? Are you kidding me! Thor has never experienced a single war that the Allfathers went through. All he did was suppress some rebellious forces, which is no different from slaughtering roadside bandits." Salomon was implying something, because before this, he had compared S.H.I.E.L.D. and the United States to the rebellious forces on Earth, because from Asgard's perspective, that was the truth.
Of course, this was just another kind of threat, a threat that would never work. Nick Fury knew this because both the Sorcerer Supreme and Salomon would vehemently oppose Asgard's interference in Earth's affairs, and anyone with a brain wouldn't ask Odin to re-enter Midgard.
"You should understand, it's like those senators sending their kids to Ivy League schools to get a prestigious education so they can take over their businesses in the future." Salomon swallowed his bread and said, "Thol is like that, except Asgard is a nation built on military might, and the army is the foundation of Asgard. Whether it's Thor, the Allfather, or even the chief gods of the Aesir pantheon before, they all grew up in military camps."
"Writing a legend, huh?" Nick Fury said. "Can you please stop eating?"
"I didn't have dinner, you bastard! I gave up the chance to have a romantic candlelight dinner with the most beautiful woman in the world and came to the New Mexico desert to stare at a blond baby. Haven't I tried hard enough?" Salomon raised his voice. "If it weren't for Thor's enormous potential, I wouldn't have come here."
"What do you mean?"
"No, it's nothing." Salomon stretched and said, "Don't make things difficult for Saul tonight, don't interfere in anything. Jane Foster and Saul's relationship still needs to develop."
"Even if he took down my agent?" Nick Fury asked tentatively, "Do you think Jane Foster might...?"
"Don't even think about it. Long-lived and short-lived races have no future, and the future queen has already been chosen. In a hundred years, Jane Foster will be dead, but Sif will still be alive and well, and won't even get wrinkles." Salomon was extremely disdainful of Nick Fury's idea. There are very few Earthlings that Odin would take a liking to, and Jane Foster is definitely not among them.
Unless Jane Foster is able to lift Thor's hammer right now, she's just an ordinary Earth woman.
"I think you need to look at this." Nick Fury quickly changed the subject, placing the phone back in front of Salomon. "He's talking. To whom? There's no one on the surveillance footage!"
"He's here! Give me your gun." Salomon stood up, completely unconcerned about the muddy ground. "Give it to me, quick!"
"Be careful, it's a real gun..."
"Shut up, I can use a gun!" Salomon took the pistol, expertly checked the magazine, and then took several alchemical bombs from his dimensional bag and placed them on the metal bucket. After carefully checking everything, he instructed Nick Fury to start the car. "Don't ask why," Salomon said. "If you don't want to die a senseless death, just do as I say."
"What are you doing!" Nick Fury yelled as he started the car. "Are you going to kill someone?"
"Give this guy a little warning." Salomon also asked Nick Fury to keep switching between surveillance feeds. Although his request was somewhat unreasonable, Nick Fury did it.
Suddenly, Salomon swirled his hand, and orange-red sparks appeared in the sky above the makeshift research base. He tossed down a tantalizing bomb, and silver dust instantly filled the square atrium built around the hammer. Salomon picked up his pistol and fired at a moving figure within the silver dust. After emptying his magazine, he threw down another bomb before closing the portal. The entire process lasted only six seconds. The agents inside the research base hadn't even had time to react before it was all over. The continuous explosions and gunfire left them incredibly tense, fearing another intruder might appear.
However, there was nothing there; they saw nothing but a small crater in the mud.
Salomon, clutching the metal bucket, hurriedly jumped into the passenger seat.
"Drive faster, drive faster!" he kept urging. "Don't let anyone know it was us!"
"Then why the hell are you still carrying that thing?!" Nick Fury slammed on the gas and sped towards the desert, complaining incessantly because Salomon hadn't told him the purpose of doing so. What was the warning? Who was he being warned? He had no idea.
"Because I haven't finished eating yet!"
"Damn it... You need to explain yourself properly, come with me!"
"It's Loki." Salomon cast a spell, and the black jeep passed through a portal and disappeared into the New Mexico desert. Far across the ocean in London, the black jeep emerged from a secluded alley. Nick Fury was unsurprised; he already knew about Salomon's magic and was waiting for the sorcerer's explanation.
“Loki is a sorcerer, his magic is very powerful, and he can turn invisible,” Salomon said. “When I opened the portal, my magic couldn’t see him at all, which is why I used the first alchemical bomb. As for the bullets, they were completely useless; they mean nothing to Asgard. I just wanted to let Loki know that someone on Earth is watching him, that’s all.”
"Just because of that?"
"Earth is the Sorcerer Supreme's territory; Loki doesn't have a visa!"
"Just because of that?"
"This is a sovereignty issue! Okay, you're American, so it's normal that you don't understand this."
