Chapter 109 Filling the Gaps: Calculations and Forced Battles

"That's it?" Salomon pointed at the screen. The drone's resolution wasn't high, but Nick Fury had also connected to the Iron Man suit's camera, and Tony Stark's first-person perspective appeared on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s laptop. By comparing two different videos, Salomon saw Sif and Fandral being punched away by the fallen Destroyer armor, crashing heavily to the ground, unable to even hold their weapons. Tony Stark, who had initially wanted to complain, rushed forward and knocked the Destroyer armor to the ground again.

"Even if Tony Stark wore his Iron Man suit, he wouldn't be a match for the Destroyer armor, even with those Asgardians. To be honest, even the current Tony Stark isn't a match for me. Isn't it foolish of you to use someone like that as your trump card?" Salomon watched the first-person perspective of the Iron Man suit on the screen. He saw Tony Stark quickly take off after crashing into the Destroyer armor, using the laser on the back of his hand to cut the Destroyer. However, even a laser capable of easily cutting through objects couldn't cause much damage to the Destroyer. Before Tony Stark could even sever one of the Destroyer's arms, the laser generator had already overheated and burned out.

"In Congress's eyes, Tony Stark's Iron Man suit is the best individual combat weapon," Nick Fury said, looking at Iron Man being brutally beaten by the Destroyer armor. "But even such a weapon is still far behind the level of alien technology. This is why Congress wants Tony Stark to open up the Arc Reactor technology; we still have a long way to go in terms of technology."

"But you won't agree, will you?" Salomon asked. "I'm glad to see you like this, at least in your heart you are human, not America."

"America becoming a global hegemon is not a good thing for the entire planet." Nick Fury wasn't surprised at all that his ulterior motives had been pointed out. He and Salomon had already discussed their respective ideologies, so it wasn't surprising that Salomon knew his thoughts. "Of course, on the surface, I'm still an American."

At this moment, Sif and Fandral, who had been punched twice by the Destroyer armor, stood up unharmed. They picked up their weapons again and charged towards the Destroyer armor. Volstak also picked up his battle axe and, together with Hogan who had arrived from behind, attacked the Destroyer's leg armor. These Uru metal weapons, forged by the dwarves, managed to penetrate the Destroyer armor with difficulty, enhanced by magic and strength. However, the armor, like an owl, could rotate its head 360 degrees without any blind spots. The jets of flame caused a violent explosion, blasting the Warriors Four away again, while the slightly damaged Destroyer armor automatically repaired itself.

"So what are you going to do next?" Salomon asked, pointing at the screen. Because it was close-quarters combat, the Destroyer's flames couldn't quickly target the fast-moving enemies below. The only easy target was Iron Man, who was flying around erratically. Through Tony Stark's perspective, Salomon watched him narrowly dodge the flames several times, but he couldn't always calculate a safe flight area. The Destroyer's flames needed a short time to accumulate before being released, and this short time was unpredictable. This often caused Jarvis to miscalculate, and the armor of the Iron Man suit almost turned red-hot from the impact.

"It's not a question of what I should do, but what you should do," Nick Fury asked meaningfully. "Are you just going to let the Asgardians run rampant on Earth? As far as I know, Earth is the territory of the Sorcerer Supreme."

be cheated!

Salomon stared wide-eyed in disbelief. Several seconds later, he finally understood—Nick Fury had been plotting against him since the night before, and he hadn't noticed at all. The so-called "commanding the battlefield and filling in the gaps" was only part of the reason; the main reason was Nick Fury's scheming.

From a sense of responsibility, Kamar-Taj is Earth's last line of defense against aliens and outer dimensions. Moreover, this is not Vanaheim; Earth's autonomy is inviolable, and Loki's actions are tantamount to trampling on Kamar-Taj's sovereignty. If Salomon weren't here, things would be different, but he is present now. As a member of Kamar-Taj, it is his duty, both morally and logically, to stand up against the aliens and uphold the authority of the Sorcerer Supreme—an obligation he cannot refuse.

Furthermore, according to the terms of the contract between Salomon and Nick Fury, Nick Fury was not allowed to proactively reveal the secrets of Kamar-Taj and magic, nor could he even tell anyone about Salomon's secrets. Nick Fury showed no intention of bearing the consequences of violating the magical contract. However, the terms did not state that Salomon could not proactively reveal the secrets, nor that Nick Fury would bear the consequences of such proactive revelation. He perfectly exploited a loophole in the terms.

This is the nature of the Lawful Order; Kamar-Taj is undeniably a Lawful organization. Because of its sovereignty over Earth, Salomon, as a party involved and a member of Kamar-Taj, must carry out all responsibilities, obligations, terms, and orders. Unless Salomon is not present, but he was brought here by Nick Fury.

"Old fox!" Salomon never expected Nick Fury to trick him like this. But Nick Fury chose to trick him in this way to ensure the safety of the nearby humans. After all, no one knew whether Thor's reinforcements would thwart Loki's plot, or whether Loki would slaughter the surrounding humans for amusement after killing Thor. Putting the safety of humans on the enemy's sympathy was extremely unwise. Nick Fury wasn't stupid; he naturally knew what to do, and he was prepared to bear the corresponding consequences.

"You have to understand what I'm doing," he said, but he also knew that the level of trust between him and Salomon had dropped to its lowest point, even lower than what was promised in the magical contract.

“I understand.” Salomon glared at him, “But, F*uck you! Nick Fury. You could have told me your thoughts beforehand, but you chose not to.”

"Because I can't determine Kamar-Taj's true stance on this Asgardian coup," Nick Fury said expressionlessly. Since he learned of Thor's arrival on Earth, he had observed an ambiguous attitude from Kamar-Taj, represented by Salomon. If Earth possessed autonomy, then Thor shouldn't have come to Earth at all; he should have gone to another planet among the Nine Realms. Furthermore, Kamar-Taj took no action despite knowing Thor's identity beforehand, and even Salomon hadn't offered to help him.

Now, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s actions in protecting Thor have shown Asgard that S.H.I.E.L.D. is on Thor's side. This is the result of Salomon persuading Nick Fury; he dug a hole for himself, and now he has to fill it himself.

Even though Salomon had previously stated that Asgard viewed S.H.I.E.L.D. as nothing more than bandits and robbers, Nick Fury still wanted to establish independence and contact with Asgard. In this situation, Kamar-Taj's stance became particularly crucial; in other words, Nick Fury was forcing Salomon to choose a side. He wanted to bring Kamar-Taj into his fold to increase his own leverage—because only then would Asgard respect them.

In terms of political maneuvering, Salomon was far less cunning than Nick Fury. However, Nick Fury also paid a price: the bridge between him and Salomon was gone.

Salomon glared at him. The arcane mage naturally wouldn't reveal more to Nick Fury. He gritted his teeth, stood up, put on his slingshot, and opened the portal. He tossed his phone in before instructing Agent Romanov to open the fighter jet's rear hatch. Although Nick Fury had tricked him into fulfilling his obligations, the specifics of how to do so weren't clearly defined in their contract. The method was Salomon's own decision—he could choose to shirk his duties and wait for Thor to awaken and regain his divine power—while Nick Fury exploited this loophole, Salomon was doing the same.

Salomon touched his cheek, creating a hazy illusion on his skin. To outsiders, his face appeared much blurrier, like someone with 400 degrees of nearsightedness trying to see someone five meters away. Although the spell had a time limit, he believed it would be enough to stall until everything was resolved.

The sorcerer stood up in front of the rear cabin door, looked straight ahead, and leaped down, letting gravity pull him downwards at an incredible speed. A icy wind rushed into his clothes, causing the hem of his black occult robes and the long red shroud to billow upwards. Salomon adjusted his posture, arching his body backwards, head tilted back, arms naturally outstretched, legs together, and feet hooked back, trying to prevent his body from spinning.

He saw the desert below and the slightly curved orange-red horizon in the distance. In the dim sunlight, the Destroyer still reflected light from left and right, and the continuous explosions reminded Salomon of the location of his target.

"Adonai Melekh, 10, Crystal, Queen; "

Th, crucis, 400, world;

Shaddai El Chai, 9, silver;

R, capput, 200, the sun;

S, Elohim Tzabaoth, 8, Mercury;

Kingdom, foundation, grandeur

In the name of Sandalphon

In the name of Gabriel

In the name of Raphael

—Stigmata deployed!

Salomon crossed his arms and brought them back to his chest, palms facing outwards, instantly creating an orange-red spark shield that enveloped his entire body. The arcane mage descending from the sky adjusted his posture again, standing upside down with his hands facing downwards, carrying kinetic energy as he slammed into the Destroyer armor below. The sound of the collision was no less than the impact of a bomb exploding, and a massive amount of dust instantly filled the entire battlefield. The Warriors Four of Asgard had to raise their hands to shield their eyes to avoid being scratched by the sand, and Tony Stark couldn't see the situation on the battlefield at all.

Suddenly, accompanied by a voice, a whirlwind rose in the center of the battlefield, carrying away all the dust. Only then could the Warriors Four and Tony Stark see what had happened—the once indestructible Destroyer armor had suddenly shrunk, and the helmet was completely dented.

Seemingly due to severe damage, the Destroyer armor lay motionless. This was undoubtedly an exciting victory, but the person who achieved it was someone they didn't know—

"Hey, you! Weren't you on the plane?" Tony Stark yelled. Salomon's attire was quite distinctive, and Tony Stark wasn't that forgetful. "How did you get here? Did you jump?"

But Salomon completely ignored him, instead gesturing and chanting incantations. Then, he stretched out his hands, and three intertwined streams of flame struck the Destroyer.

"Is this your new product? But I had the idea first..."

"He's a wizard!" Sif's words choked Tony Stark. She twirled her longsword. "Although I don't know where he came from or why he's hiding himself, it's good to have another ally."

"Even though he used sissy magic, he still managed to hurt the Destroyer. That's a man!" Volstagg patted his chest. "Step back, slender Volstagg is getting serious!"
