Chapter 1126 The Warmth and Hospitability of Bastet

Chapter 1126 The Warmth and Hospitability of Bastet (Second Update)

The Wakanda royal family prepared a very luxurious guest room for Emperor Latvinia. An automatic temperature control system ensured that the person lying in bed could sleep comfortably all night in the ideal temperature and humidity. Servants and the kitchen were on call 24 hours a day to serve the guest whatever he needed. However, Hammurabi not only refused all the services offered by the Wakanda royal family, as Emperor Latvinia did not intend to enjoy them, but the Royal Guard also refused Princess Shuri's and other Golden Horde nobles' requests to meet, stating that what happened at the dinner that evening was an internal affair of Wakanda and that Latvinia would not interfere.

Hammurabi first inspected all the equipment in the room to ensure there were no eavesdropping or surveillance devices. Emperor Latvinia waved his hand, and two fortress-type combat robots located in the Sky Carrier's armory stepped out from the shattered mirror. Their battering rams and explosive muskets were loaded, and their IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) systems and life detection radars began scanning the surroundings, ready to deal with any non-friendly units that might intrude.

Hammurabi was somewhat worried that he might not be able to protect the monarch in time when facing an attacking enemy. Therefore, Constantine, the commander of the Janissaries, added regulations to the security treaty for the Janissaries' sole protection of the monarch, stipulating the use of combat droids. Emperor Latvinia knew that if he didn't do this, he would have to repeatedly be persuaded by the Janissaries upon his return, so he had no choice but to agree. However, the two iron-gray combat droids were not intended to protect his safety, but rather to protect T'Challa or Erik Killmonger. In case of an emergency, the combat droids could use their powerful firepower to quell the situation.

"My lord."

"Don't worry, Eric Killmonger is unaware of the Immortal City's connection to Latvinia. Unless he has the ability to find out that the company employing him in Africa is one of countless companies jointly held by hundreds of Hydra foundations, he wouldn't even know that we are the ones providing him with support. Even if he finds the relevant information, he doesn't have time to review tens of thousands of pages of investment relationship reports."

The emperor shook his head and lit thirteen candles in the darkness. These cold, floating candles provided him with good lighting. He picked up a book by a Wakanda theologian and ordered his invisible servant to open the wine cabinet, fetch ice, and prepare a chilled shot of liquor to keep him from getting too bored while reading.

"Our most important task now is to appear impartial on the surface, showing no favoritism to either side. But in reality, we will tell both sides that we support them, making this war for the throne even more heated." Emperor Latvinia was silent for a moment, then suddenly closed the book and tossed it aside. The full moonlight replaced the bright candlelight and slowly crept into the room. He stretched out his palm, his fingers, encased in armor, tightly gripping the air, which was tinged silvery-white by the moonlight, as if there were something invisible within it.

"I don't like uninvited guests, even if this is a guest room."

As soon as the words were spoken, the moonlight and dust motes in the air slowly formed the shape of a woman's body. The combat droids remained silent, and the towering Imperial Guards were nowhere to be seen.

The woman with light brown skin had large, open eyes, the corners of which were drawn with two winding curves using black mineral oil—a dark eye makeup styled as "Kol," used to protect her eyes from the harsh sunlight. She wore a tight-fitting, openwork dress adorned with numerous beads and gold threads, her thick, long, straight black hair embellished with gold ornaments that glittered in the candlelight. Golden bell earrings swayed gently in the breeze. A beautiful metal collar and bodice, crafted from jewels and gold, were worn on her shoulders. Without hesitation, the woman straddled the emperor's armored lap, showing no fear despite his threat. She gently stroked her enamel-bracelet-clad arm towards the emperor's arm, her movements as delicate as a feline approaching its prey.

"You lit the candles and brought the wine," the woman said softly. "Aren't you summoning me?"

"You represent the war."

"Not now. I'm not wearing a Hepresh (a blue war crown)." The woman laughed, her alluring face surprisingly sweet. "Also, I'm not wearing a wig. This is real hair, and I spent a long time carefully stringing these jewels onto it. You can imagine how much time I put into this date."

"We didn't date, Bastet. As agreed, you can get a champion strong enough."

"Did Athena turn you into such a bastard?" Bastet poked the Emperor's breastplate hard, and then the entire power armor vanished. He was transformed into a Roman wool toga and a red cloak embroidered with golden eagles in gold thread. A golden laurel wreath bound back his long black hair, but the Emperor didn't seem satisfied with this attire; he seemed to prefer the power armor that allowed him to be ready for battle at any moment. "This looks much better, unless you want me to wear armor too." Bastet smiled, her eyes narrowing with feline cunning. "I guarantee you don't want to see that. The last time I did this, many people died."

"Our deal is done. What are you doing here?" the emperor asked expressionlessly. "Or do you intend to interfere with the enthronement ceremony?"

"Of course not. Both T'Challa and N'Jadakar are of Klangga blood, and the shamanic talent of Klangga flows in their veins as well. That's enough for me." Bastet winked mischievously. She deliberately wrapped her lithe legs around the emperor's thighs, then stretched, letting out intermittent snoring sounds. The layers of jewels on her body vibrated and clattered together. In the candlelight, her body beneath her beaded dress was clearly visible. She didn't care at all about displaying her perfect physique to the emperor; there was even a hint of ostentation in it.

"I just wanted to make sure you don't have any other plans, like which candidate you think is more advantageous." Ignoring her objections, she snuggled closer, curling up in the emperor's arms. He could smell the strong perfume in her hair, used to mask the stench of blood, and a black feline tail, which had appeared out of nowhere, swayed incessantly in the air. She spoke in a very languid tone, "And have you forgotten that I have other divine duties? Come on, let's make another deal. I'm never as stingy as Athena."

"My lord?" Hammurabi asked anxiously. He had never seen a monarch suddenly fall into a deep sleep before. This unusual situation made him feel extremely threatened, and he even considered activating the teleportation beacon to call the Infernal Knights who were already waiting outside the Wakanda border.

The emperor opened his eyes and picked up the theological work that had been placed aside with his armored hands. Dark clouds obscured the full moon, and the dazzling lights of Wakanda's capital outside the window stained the sky, eclipsing the brilliance of the stars.

"Just thinking about some things," the Emperor said calmly. Even the Royal Guard, who had been filled with worry because of the unusual situation, were calmed down by the atmosphere. The Emperor's eyes were not on the room illuminated by candlelight. His completely transparent magical eyeballs had already drifted to the various passages of the Wakanda Royal Palace, taking in every corner of this building where many people were destined to have a restless night.

This is destined to be a sleepless night, for both the Wakandas and the Latvinians. Tomorrow's coronation ceremony will determine whether Latvinia will be able to acquire Wakanda's advanced manufacturing industry and cutting-edge technology, which will in turn affect the Latvinian emperor's next steps.

"Continue the night watch. I will keep an eye on everyone in the palace. There must be no assassination tonight."

"Yes, my lord." Hammurabi turned around, like a magnificent golden statue standing beside a desk, and continued to carry out his task. He noticed the emperor looking thoughtfully out the window, gazing at the night sky through layers of dark clouds, seemingly contemplating something.
